This will be over in a month?

I’ve seen that said by so many on social media and the DM (sorry I know) reported that death toll was halved today.

I thought this would last 3 months

I hope it's only a month but with the amount of people not taking it seriously I doubt it sadly.

R2221 · 25/03/2020 21:18

I really hope with the new testing kits and all the social distancing, we’ll be out of this in 4-6 weeks!

Cherrysoup · 25/03/2020 21:20

Far too many people taking the piss to think lockdown will lift soon. They just don’t seem to understand the concept of physical distancing. Refusing to stop a bbq when the police tell them to, wtaf? As an epidemiologist friend of mine said today ‘We’re in for a rough ride. Buckle up’.

Jupiters · 25/03/2020 21:22

As people aren't stopping meeting/partying/bbqing ect I doubt it will be over in a month.

CorinnaSinner · 25/03/2020 21:23

Well apparently a stricter lockdown will happen on Friday ... so potentially this will be over by May.

But then Spain was on lockdown and what’s happening there now

WhittlingIhopMonkey · 25/03/2020 21:23

Look at China and Italy. Do you really think this will be over in a month?

Darbs76 · 25/03/2020 21:24

It definitely won’t. The death toll has just dipped, there will be dips. We won’t see the effects of the lockdown for another couple of weeks. This will go on for months. What do you think will happen if they say go back to normal life again?

feelinguseless101 · 25/03/2020 21:25

No.

NameofTheWind · 25/03/2020 21:25

Expect a huge peak in cases from all the people who were infected last week before the lock down, but aren't yet showing symptoms.

We cant expect the lockdown to show effects on statistics until at least 10 days have passed.

Marieo · 25/03/2020 21:25

No. A dip on one day doesn't mean anything.

adaline · 25/03/2020 21:25

Nope. At least 3-6 months.

Thedogscollar · 25/03/2020 21:26

This will go into the Summer and beyond. No way is this over in a month( I wish) 41 deaths and counting so far today in UK. Our ITU has patients in with symptoms of the virus.

aupresdemonarbre · 25/03/2020 21:27

I don’t think anyone with any sense thinks this will be over in a month. Realistically it can’t be over until we have a vaccine - which is months off at least. The government have said it will be at least a year. Presumably not a year of lockdown but a year of alternating more and less severe social distancing measures.

Scbchl · 25/03/2020 21:27

Where did you see stricter lockdown by May? Theres no way it will be over so quickly. We havent had anywhere near the draconian measures put in place by China and it wasnt over that quickly there and we still dont know if it will spread again there now measures are being relaxed.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/03/2020 21:27

I pray to god it’s over in a month but I’m preparing myself for this going on all over summer, possibly autumn.

It’s so frustrating when you’re doing your bit and others are too thick to care. And I’m not talking about people going for a bike ride/getting takeaways/walking your dog twice a day in a deserted field - despite what some on here say, these are all ok. I’m talking about the people still meeting up with friends/having multi-family barbecues in their front gardens & pubs having a secret back door knock for locals (all people I know).

It makes your own efforts seem futile..

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 25/03/2020 21:27

It takes two weeks for the effects of any government measures to become noticeable, due to the incubation period. I wouldn't be getting too excited just yet. And please get your information from reliable sources!

tiredanddangerous · 25/03/2020 21:27

No chance unfortunately.

LakieLady · 25/03/2020 21:28

I think they will use varying degrees of lockdown to try and control the pressure on the NHS, and that it will go on for months.

Things may change if an effective treatment is discovered or a vaccination is developed, but those are unlikely to happen quickly.

FizzyPink · 25/03/2020 21:28

No I highly doubt it. I can’t believe the number of people that think the rules don’t apply to them. Someone in my team at work this morning asked if she was okay to have a family member drive 5 hours to collect her from central London and take her home and literally everyone on the call reassured her this would of course be fine 🤦🏼‍♀️ Idiots the lot of them

CorinnaSinner · 25/03/2020 21:28

People can’t be in lockdown for 3-6 months though.

I mean I can and many others can. But come on .. some people in this country would never be able to stay at home for just one weekend.

OP posts:
Scbchl · 25/03/2020 21:29

*lockdown.by Friday I mean not May

PinkiOcelot · 25/03/2020 21:29

I’m really very doubtful this will be over in 6 months tbh. I just can’t see an end.

CorinnaSinner · 25/03/2020 21:30

I drove to the supermarket today (elderly neighbour) and so many people were cycling, I saw a coffee shop open with a group gathered outside. I came home and could smell a bbq (fair enough it could just be a family)

We’ve all seen the horror that’s happening, doesn’t bother a lot of people clearly

Daffie19 · 25/03/2020 21:31

Definately won't be done in a month.
Slowing down maybe but not done.

Our itu usually has 20 beds, our hospital has been asked to prepare for 76 itu Ventilated beds by the end of this week.
