I’ve seen that said by so many on social media and the DM (sorry I know) reported that death toll was halved today.

I thought this would last 3 months

I was coming on to say same. Cyclists who keep to themselves are not an infection problem for anyone else. Not something to fall out with neighbours about.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 06:43

It’s one day. Give it a few more to see if it’s a trend.

breakingbetter · 26/03/2020 06:51

Expect a huge jump 2 weeks from last weekend when everyone thought it was a bank holiday and filled the pubs before closing and then was out walking all weekend in parks etc.

I think the testing kits are a huge positive but they're not the end all of this. Just seen another 4 hospitals are going to be built so we're in this for the long haul.

Kuponut · 26/03/2020 06:58

For my sanity I'm taking it in 3 week to a month periods. I expect intermittent lockdowns and relaxations to correspond with NHS capacity - so I'm coping with dealing with it mentally in that kind of fashion.

I shall deal with till the other side of the Easter holidays first and then see where we are. No plans or predicted timescales.

Springtime003 · 26/03/2020 06:59

No it won’t

redsky75 · 26/03/2020 08:12

Someone mentioned warmer weather dissipating it possibly...I've heard this a few times and it makes sense as flu and colds are less common in Summer. However, if that was the case would Italy, Spain and African countries not already be in a warmer weather situation??

Ciwirocks · 26/03/2020 08:33

I am really hoping we can be on the other side of the worst of this in a month but I don’t think it will be over for a good while. In my area we are not even expecting to see a surge in admissions for another couple of weeks.

nicenewdusters · 26/03/2020 10:56

Ok. So to return to my neighbours who went out as a family, including two children under 10. How many miles d'you think they covered in 4 hours, how many surfaces did they touch, how many people did they pass where, although they may have tried to keep 2 metres apart, it didn't happen.

I don't know the exact answer. But I do know it will have been a huge amount more than if they had followed the Government guidelines. Stay at home. One period of exercise a day. In this national emergency that means a short walk to me, maybe 10 to 20 minutes. Because I'm trying to be responsible, and respond to the requests of those like the ICU nurse crying on TV last night. She's terrified to go into work, and pleaded with people to stay home.

So you carry on, defending people riding around for hours on bikes. I'm sure they're experts at keeping themselves and others 100% safe in a global pandemic. And don't worry, I shan't be falling out with them, I wouldn't add that stress to my life. I just now have absolutely no respect for them, so will just remain civil for my own peace of mind.

nicenewdusters · 26/03/2020 16:49

And they all just returned in their car. The car left about 12.30pm today.

No elderly parents between them, not key workers, she went food shopping a couple of days ago, so must be the mythical exercise.

Ohnoducks · 27/03/2020 16:44

For anyone who missed it, the incredibly low death rate on Wednesday that this thread was talking about was due to them changing the time period that deaths were reported over, so this low rate only covered 8 hours, not 24.

speakout · 27/03/2020 17:56

I hope my neighbours are not watching me!

I had to drop a load at the post office this morning ( drop and go, so no contact, not touching anyone) OH went to the wholesalers for me to get an order, now he has gone to work.

Parker231 · 27/03/2020 17:59

The number of deaths is doubling every three or four days. We’ve a long way to go to getting back to normal.

Tootletum · 27/03/2020 18:02

The death toll won't come down for a few months. Depends what we decide to do about that. At some point will have to weigh the harm to our livelihoods against the risk of more deaths, but the govt would have to stop paying for anyone to be willing to get back to work.

Igavebirthtoabanana · 27/03/2020 18:12

I don't think they can do a continuous lock down for a solid 3 months, people would start to riot.

I have a friend who shares several updated on FB about STAY HOME but has admitted she's been to our local supermarket every day this week.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 18:17

I don’t think riots. It hasn’t happened elsewhere.
I do think unhealthy habits, mh decline and worse more DV.

I think it will go on for months but they will find lockdown starts to become a lot less sustainable over the next six weeks. Partly due to boredom, partly due to the economy, but mostly because of sunshine and people thinking (correctly or incorrectly) that they have had Covid and therefore don’t need to stay locked down anymore. But ostly because of sunshine and people not wanting to stay indoors in good weather.

If the antibody test works it will help
