I’ve seen that said by so many on social media and the DM (sorry I know) reported that death toll was halved today.

I thought this would last 3 months

I’m really very doubtful this will be over in 6 months tbh. I just can’t see an end.

I know someone who lives in Shanghai and they said things are slowly returning to normal.

Japan and Germany have had no deaths, the last I heard at least, makes me wonder what their doing differently.
I'd like to think that this will be over in a month but unfortunately I don't think it will.

hamstersarse · 25/03/2020 21:32

Once we get the tests which shows how many people have had it is when we will know when the lockdowns can be relaxed

Bitofeverything · 25/03/2020 21:32

It’s remarkable the gap between the Oxford and the Imperial University modelling. It’s almost guaranteed to be somewhere between the two - but I think the Imperial model is starting to look rather pessimistic. I don’t think this is going to last months. Weeks, probably.

lemontreebird · 25/03/2020 21:33

What's this aboyt a stricter lickdown by Friday, @CorinnaSinner?

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 21:33

I think they might do a stricter lockdown but I wonder what good it will do, it seems to me like it will just prolong it to nearer the winter. I can understand it in the Southern Hemisphere with the winter coming but think that al" we can do is delay it and not stop it.

SapphireSalute · 25/03/2020 21:33

whats expected to happen on friday?

lemontreebird · 25/03/2020 21:34

Ffs, spelling. about and lockdown.

aupresdemonarbre · 25/03/2020 21:34

Yeah they’re relaxing restrictions now in China but that doesn’t mean it’s over- the virus is still at large and there will still be more flare ups - potentially necessitating a further lockdown. It’s a very contagious disease- it will continue to spread until enough people are immune, either because they have had it or because they have been vaccinated.

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 21:34

mean I can and many others can. But come on .. some people in this country would never be able to stay at home for just one weekend

Then they will die.

Pulpfiction1 · 25/03/2020 21:35

I think we will be on lock down for 4-6 weeks. Once the numbers is hospital start decreasing they'll let everyone out again with some restrictions still in place (mass gatherings like football matches probably). Then when hospital admissions start to climb again we'll go back in lock down. This pattern will go on for about a year. After which point we'll either have a vaccination or, those that will die have died and the rest of the population have had it. It will then go into the normal virus rotation like flu and kill a few thousand vulnerable each year.

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 25/03/2020 21:35

Wuhan went into lockdown on 23rd January, and it was much stricter than it is here. They're only now talking about lifting it. That's two months. We're two days in here, much more lenient measures and enforcement. I very much doubt it will be over in a month.

Goawayquickly · 25/03/2020 21:35

No I don’t think so, I think this is very early days indeed,

I’m listening to a phone in right now and a caller just said he thinks that unless people have complete security of wages and benefits that they’ll be riots like we’ve never seen before, frightened, hungry, cooped up people running amok, it did make me think tbh, if people are looked after and can pay their bills they’re more likely to comply with stricter measures if they come in.

Who knows? This is new for everyone.

shinyredbus · 25/03/2020 21:36

Honestly - who knows?! People speculating just lends itself to more hysteria. Just sit tight and wait. There is honestly nothing you can do.

nobodyimportant · 25/03/2020 21:36

Today's numbers are probably just a blip. The numbers day by day go up and down but the overall trend is definitely up:

www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

They aren't expecting a peak for 2 -3 weeks.

tootiredtoconga · 25/03/2020 21:36

I can't see any way that this will be over in a month. The government were slow to impose a lockdown (and it's a much less stringent lockdown than many other countries), we won't see any effects from it until at least a couple of weeks from now. Things are very slowly returning to normal in China but we're months behind them and we haven't been nearly as aggressive in terms of measures taken to slow the spread of the virus. I think July/August things will probably be getting back to some semblance of normality but none of us really have any idea. It's all guess work.

CorinnaSinner · 25/03/2020 21:36

Not necessarily.

And the war was gonna be over by Christmas. . .

Good post

TheTrollFairy · 25/03/2020 21:39

@Nixby3 where are you getting your info from? Germany are standing at 206 deaths and Japan at 45 currently according to the live tracker
South Africa have 700 cases and no deaths as of yet so are currently doing the best in terms of mortality rate.
Current mortality rate is up to 15% of cases who get the virus has died.

This will not be over in a month. Wuhan is still on lock down and will be for a couple of weeks more as it currently stands

IckyIsAFuckingStupidWord · 25/03/2020 21:40

I read today that the NEC in Birmingham is currently on standby to be a makeshift hospital, like the ExCeL, if needed.

If this was going to be over in a month, they wouldn’t be doing that.

GreyishDays · 25/03/2020 21:43

I think the deaths for today (that are about yesterday) are only including Scotland, Wales and NI. The England ones haven’t been released yet.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 21:43

Gosh no, although what a thought that would be.

I think in three months' time we might have a clearer view of how the next 18 months will pan out. Before then? No.

Thelnebriati · 25/03/2020 21:45

Look at Spanish Flu, and assume it will go on for at least 18 months and come round at least twice.

RhubarbTea · 25/03/2020 21:46

This is going to last much much longer than three months - just because they will relax restrictions in the summer doesn't mean CV will be gone. I'm already thinking about the autumn and winter 20-21 and feeling apprehensive.
Read the Imperial College paper. This isn't going away any time soon. Sadly.
