Is anyone ordering non essentials online?

Just that really. I haven't ordered anything online, I'm thinking clothes (not work items), make up etc. I just feel guilty that someone has to pick and pack my order and then it has to be delivered. These people have to get to work. But then I think, what about these businesses? Do they want us to keep on ordering so that they can try so stay afloat? Plus, does anyone need new clothes to stay in the house?!

What are you doing?

I ordered knickers socks etc and then a load of clothes from NEXT. Just the underwear was delivered. Not sure if this is coincidence or purposeful though.

H1978 · 25/03/2020 19:24

I ordered a few bits from the next sale mainly dds school uniform especially it being free delivery which it never is

Genderwitched · 25/03/2020 19:28

Yes, I've ordered oil paints.

LittleLittleLittle · 25/03/2020 19:28

I ordered some nice trainers to click and collect from a newsagent. Picked them up and then 3 days later was told to shield for 12 weeks....

TheReelSlimShady · 25/03/2020 19:29

I've ordered wine online.

Some debate whether it's essential or non-essential, given that off licences are on the list of shops allowed to be open!

insancerre · 25/03/2020 19:30

Yes, I ordered a set of essential oils and an air purifier
They came yesterday

Noworrieshere · 25/03/2020 19:31

Yes I've ordered some things for ds's birthday. If anything, this will teach me not to procrastinate. I've known what he wanted for ages but haven't ordered it because I had to check the sizing and I kept putting it off. Now I don't know if it will even arrive on time. What an idiot.

Mysocalledlifexx · 25/03/2020 19:31

I got baby clothes in the next sale and bits at boots,i diddnt think it would come anytime soon but i got part delivery yesterday.

Makeitgoaway · 25/03/2020 19:33

I've ordered a new toilet seat and contact lenses in the last few days. I could really do with something for a fungal infection on my feet!

In normal circumstances they'd all be essential but....?

However, wine has definitely been decreed essential, off licences are to remain open . Plus, atm, we are allowed to shop on line. Chris W explained it tonight. Make it too difficult and people wont be able to do it .

Mybobowler · 25/03/2020 19:33

I'm having the same dilemma. I've just ordered some craft stuff and some clothing essentials for my daughter, and I'm now feeling really guilty about it. I'm telling myself that these businesses need to survive after coronavirus, and trusting that they're treating their staff well. I'm aware I'm probably kidding myself on the latter point though.

Given the guilt, I'm definitely going to be more mindful of what I order online during this period.

Holothane · 25/03/2020 19:33

My Gtech arrived today, it’s so much easier than our last Hoover I have arthritis so easier for me.

PumpkinP · 25/03/2020 19:33

Yep, it was my daughters birthday. Wasn’t going to not get anything. I don’t feel guilt

Deux · 25/03/2020 19:34

I think it’s fine and from an economic point of view as it keeps some money circulating.

wishesmadeonstars · 25/03/2020 19:35

Yes ordered some stuff to help with home schooling- a couple of books and stationary

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 19:36

Really small amount
Bought some soil for garden as bought plants before it all kicked off
And potty

AvoidingRealHumans · 25/03/2020 19:36

Not yet but want to order some new make up and bits. Not essential in the grand scheme of things but essential to me.

Wannabangbang · 25/03/2020 19:38

Yes it's my daughters birthday soon so bought her an outfit and some make up. I do feel guilty but i feel in this crisis a childs birthday still needs to count. Nothing near what id normally buy her but i don't want delivery staff put out for non essential items if i can help it.

Makeitgoaway · 25/03/2020 19:39

@MarshaBradyo where did you get it from? All the garden supplies places I've looked at seem to be struggling with orders

lentenwonder · 25/03/2020 19:39

The local shops around us are all doing local delivery now, it’s mostly fancy food and wine items, I’m sure if things don’t improve the lock down will increase, until then...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/03/2020 19:39

We've ordered paint and wallpaper paste so we can decorate the living room

RhymingRabbit3 · 25/03/2020 19:40

I ordered some baby clothes and moses basket sheets. I ordered them from a small independent stockist, I assume they will be happy for the business at a time when not many people will be shopping. If they didn't want you to buy stuff they wouldnt be open.

Ronia · 25/03/2020 19:40

Same @PumpkinP. DS birthday is coming up. He's already struggling to understand why he won't get to have a party and why his grandmother is no longer coming over from.overseas. I'm not having him go without presents too.

tallah · 25/03/2020 19:42

Yeah stuff for the garden for my son to play with. And birthday presents

AmelieTaylor · 25/03/2020 19:44

I’m having the same dilemma.

Partly as described below & partly bringing anything into the house. I’ll only order things I can instantly sanitise or put in the spare room for 9 days (at which point CV is 95% likely to have ‘died’.

I have come on to start a thread a few times, but been distracted.

The companies still advertising & sending emails to update, I feel ok about (such as Wool warehouse) they’re a small company & I'm as sure as I can be that they treat their staff well.

Other companies like next, boots etc I would if I ‘needed’ something, but not just something I fancied as I think it’s better to leave delivery availability for those that need it.

Amazon?! I’m completely undecided. Am I’m helping people keep their jobs, or adding to the spread of the virus by them having more people working?! It’s really bothering me.

I would really like some storage stuff from hinby craft that I could out straight in the bath and sanitise but is it morally good it bad to be ordering from them right now?!

Spacie · 25/03/2020 19:45

I've ordered a couple of books, a charging cable and a little connector thingy for my garden hose. I need to get some mouse exterminator from somewhere too (I would say this was essential actually but B&Q appears to be closed) Going by the number of parcels coming to the door the other adults in my house have ordered a similar amount.
