My local supermarkets well stocked this week. No crazy queues. Have people calmed down?

No loo rolls or tissues and very little wine in Sainsburys but plenty of everything in Aldi this afternoon.

How2Help · 25/03/2020 18:39

Not here. I went out this afternoon. No pasta/rice/sauces/tins/toilet roll etc still. Confused

PerfidiousAlbion · 25/03/2020 18:40

Yes. I went at lunch time and the shelves were full thank god.

LeggyLinda · 25/03/2020 18:40

Absolutely nothing (practically) on the shelves of our supermarkets. I was hoping that the more stringent purchase limits would've slowed the panic buyers down. But it seems the effect is very delayed as shelves are bare.

Perhaps it is a regional thing? It's comforting to know that in some areas at least deliveries are coming through and shelves are being restocked. Hopefully our area will follow suit soon (even if it's only food and essentials for now)

.....Off Licences added to list of "Essential Retailers"

(Presumably under the heading of 'essential medicinal products.')

BentNeckLady · 25/03/2020 18:42

Tesco had everything where I live (Black Country) even toilet rolls!

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 18:45

Hope so too.
I like supporting smaller businesses but £1.45 for bread, £2.99 for pack of four toilet roll and £1.19 for an aubergine soon adds up.

Zoey92 · 25/03/2020 18:45

My local asda had security on the doors today, 1st time ive been in over a week.
They were only allowing so many in for the same amount that were coming out. Shelves were much more stocked, apart from pasta & loo roll still & were limited to 3 units per item.
Iceland only allowing 10 in at a time and same again with the item restrictions.
So hopefully these measures will stay in place and help

sestras · 25/03/2020 18:49

I went to Asda for the first time in a couple of weeks. They had some toilet paper, milk, pasta, eggs, some tins so not really well stocked but enough for people to get a few things.

StealthPolarBear · 25/03/2020 18:52

No loo roll or soap in our coop but plenty of milk, bread and frozen stuff. Didn't check fresh meat and wish I had.

Drogonssmile · 25/03/2020 18:58

I went to a small Morrison's earlier and saw pasta and .....whispers.....liquid hand soap!

atvh · 25/03/2020 19:00

Ordering online still pretty much impossible though!

LeggyLinda · 25/03/2020 19:12

This is all very encouraging. Fingers crossed for our stores tomorrow.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/03/2020 19:22

Really hope so. I'm off shopping tomorrow and really hope I can get all I need so that I don't have to go back.

Beautiful3 · 25/03/2020 19:22

Where my parents live, it's all back to normal. Fully stocked shops. Shops by me are improving, not fully stocked but not too bad. Things are looking up. Glad it was all temporary and heading back to normal.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/03/2020 19:28

Aldi was a relative oasis if calm when I went today BUT it wasn't first thing and they were still out of flour, eggs, pasta, rice, loo rolls, hand-sanitiser and paracetamol.

There were probably only 30 people in the shop maximum which was fine for social distancing.

Em308 · 25/03/2020 19:29

What is the protocol when at the cashier? How are they maintaining 2 metres distancing with the conveyor belt / bag packing and paying?

handbagsatdawn33 · 25/03/2020 19:32

Waitrose still have no lobster, caviar or truffle oil.

What does one do with venison sausages?

fedup21 · 25/03/2020 19:35

I need to do a shop tomorrow-when is a good time to go!?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/03/2020 19:36

Oh, there were loads of lobsters in Sainsbury's the other day. DS and I had a good laugh about that!

The cashiers now have a screen in front of them which wraps around the end of the counter (where you process shopping into bags). Not sure they're entirely at two metres distance (and certainly not the staff on the shop floor filling up shelves).

It's amazing how quickly one adapts to all of this, don't you think?

1981m · 25/03/2020 19:36

Not here. No deliveries or click and collections, went to the shops today and shelves stripped bare. Que outside all supermarkets

theneverendinglaundry · 25/03/2020 19:39

A lot of shelves still empty here but the supermarket was calm so I think its only a matter of time before they restock and get back to normal.

Gibbus · 25/03/2020 19:42

Popped to a Sainsbury's local on my way to work this morning and they had hand wash, paracetamol and own brand calpol. No bread though which I what I was after, I may have been too early for their delivery though.

ClashCityRocker · 25/03/2020 19:43

Aldi and tesco round our way are much better now - both had toilet roll, and little out of stock apart from paracetamol.

They were both very quiet too.
