My local supermarkets well stocked this week. No crazy queues. Have people calmed down?

OP posts:
Petiolaris · 25/03/2020 22:10

My Tesco superstore still has no meat. No chicken, beef, pork or lamb. There are a few chicken legs with marinades and steaks with flavoured butters etc, but none of the plain meat.

Cheese and butter have reappeared and there are a few cans of tomatoes and beans, and some cereal and oats. Still no loo roll, pasta or tinned fruit.

PanamaPattie · 25/03/2020 22:14

I went shopping today and I got everything I needed. Loo roll, bread, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, chicken, steak, fruit and pizza. I had a veg box delivery this afternoon so I'm hoping that I won't need to shop again until after the weekend.

mineofuselessinformation · 25/03/2020 22:25

One thing I should add - I bought meat last weekend, and was surprised to find it had security stickers on it!

TheLinerunner · 25/03/2020 22:38

But like I said, supermarket shelves being replete again only benefits those able to get there - and not the most vulnerable who have to stay in.

BlackForestCake · 25/03/2020 22:57

Still no flour or pasta anywhere. Meat and booze aisles decimated. But stacks and stacks of yellow stickered cooked prawns.

Waitrose still have no lobster, caviar or truffle oil. What does one do with venison sausages?

How ghastly for you dahling. Grin

I had a supermarket delivery earlier and I'm drowning in plastic carrier bags. I asked if I could give them back at next delivery but stupid suggestion of course. Will have to build a plastic carrier mountain in the garden.

I'm quite excited that my next delivery will contain strong flour and yeast.

Choo975 · 25/03/2020 23:17

Tesco - not much meat choice. Very few tins, no pasta or rice, no hand wash no toilet rolls, limited cleaning stuff, booze limited and social distancing measures in place. Very odd. OH and to add to that some fuckwhit thought taking his 15!year old kids with him to balloon around and make jokes about it. Why do people take the whole family shopping!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 25/03/2020 23:24

Morrison’s has security staff, 40 people allowed in only and a cashier behind a screen. They had bread, milk, veg, limited frozen, no tinned or jarred food, no perfume free sanitary towels (grrrrr). Eggs are like gold dust round here, I really wish I had a chicken.

SnoozyLou · 25/03/2020 23:41

Leave them.

theneverendinglaundry · 26/03/2020 06:23

I have also, several times, been able to get on the Ocado website straightaway with no virtual queue 👍

Me too zero slots though! Did you book one Never

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 06:35

I think it’s also that the demand has shifted online more

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:23

I panic bought 4x live chickens at the start of this. And now you can’t buy them. before the lockdown they were all sold out. I’m guessing now you wouldn’t be able to go and buy any even if in stock.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2020 07:23

The things I have noticed are still scarce in these parts

Fresh eggs
Feminine Hygiene stuff (except perfumed sanitary towels as a PP said)
Flour
Pasta
Tinned Vegetables

It's quite interesting to see what people really don't want to buy even when the rest of the shelf is empty. ie the scented towels. Hopefully this will mean supermarkets can change what they buy going forward.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2020 07:24

4 live chickens @VivaLeBeaver, for eggs?

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:25

I had a morrisons delivery turn up yesterday with quite a few substitutes, none of which I seem to have been charged for. I’m sure I read that you can’t decline substitutes at the door currently, the driver won’t take them back. So have they stopped charging for them? Half my delivery seems to be free!

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:25

@Sparklingbrook yes, got the chickens for eggs.

Already had 2x ancient chickens but they don’t lay. Got a massive chicken enclosure and a big hen house so stocked up.

Oysterbabe · 26/03/2020 07:27

Ours have been fine since the weekend.

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2020 07:27

Nothing like fresh eggs, they taste so different. Envy

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:27

Only problem is rather than be sensitive and go for point of lay chickens I bought 8 week old pekin bantams. Didn’t think that through.....10 weeks to wait for eggs! 😁

VivaLeBeaver · 26/03/2020 07:27

Sensible!

Sparklingbrook · 26/03/2020 07:30

Oh no! Well it will be worth the wait, and maybe you can have a celebratory omelette if it coincides with the lockdown lifting!

Bathroom12345 · 26/03/2020 07:48

DS works in a medium size ‘posh’ supermarket.

Advice from him:

  1. Don’t got to a supersize store. Find a mid size one
  2. Avoid mornings. Go after 1500. Deliveries coming in all the time i.e huge delivery of toilet rolls at 1600
  3. Don’t take your kids en masse. It’s selfish to take a slot in the queue because the store is only allowing 35 at a time. If you really really must take them, very strong control on them PLEASE. This is not the time to have excuses ready as to why you are special. The aisles of the supermarket are not a playground.
  4. In and out as quickly as you can. This is not the time for general chit chat in the aisles. Move through quickly.

Good news is that the shelves are in a much better state now.
