The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

@Clavinova

So your focus isnt on fulfilling a proper duty to the public, but on how much they are photographed and how viral their winking goes? We may as well really have the Kardashians in that case...

Clavinova · 27/03/2020 09:28

They have still done fuck all to inspire and comfort their nation in this horrendous crisis.

That Sophie Wessex video (coping with children at home) has got nearly 600,000 views on Instagram, 72,000 on Twitter - why don't you donate some money to your Republic cause - they are still stuck on 384.

Clavinova · 27/03/2020 09:33

No, my focus was on how contradictory Republic are on their website. Another suggestion from them; we could have a non-bias head of state like the head of the BBC - but elsewhere they criticise the BBC for being too pro-Royal.

LukeSkywalkingOnTheseHaters · 27/03/2020 09:34

Royal family are the epitomy of cocklodgers. Shacked up with the UK public, we finance them whilst they jaunt around 'working' and pursuing hobbies.

Tourism argument is false and people would still come if we had no monarch. In fact you could open up more of the palaces etc to public viewinf and still employ the Queens Guard etc to bring in the crowds. Just like the Tower Of London that really does nothing nowadays but pulls in the tourists and employs the Beefeaters

Give them a few lesser castles/properties and the duchy assets and then let them fend for themselves with no more titles.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 09:39

@Clavinova

I didnt say anything about Republic, they're not even part of this thread. You've suddenly become obsessed with them

OP posts:
Clavinova · 27/03/2020 09:40

Tourism argument is false

Actually, they are covering themselves with that one;

"But, even if the claim were true, do we really want the whims of visiting tourists to determine what kind of political system we have?"

I'm happy to hear a single member of the Royal is helping some folks even if it is preaching how to 'cope' with kids at home. Easy to say when you have lands and wealth.

As for me donating, I give my time and energy working in healthcare. And I save my donations for causes that really help people---big fan of MacMillan and Age UK if you're interested.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 09:53

@Clavinova

You've literally placed the point of the royal family on PR, not anything of substance or use to the public. Hence the entire reason for my thread.

Advice on "how to cope with children at home" from an over-pampered layabout with all the servants and palaces she can lay her hands on? Fuck off. Tell that to the woman near me who lives in a single room with three kids and cooks on an open gas canister.

Clavinova · 27/03/2020 09:56

Easy to say when you have lands and wealth.

I'm not sure it's ever easy having a child born with a disability.

Lifeisabeach09 · 27/03/2020 10:00

Of course not but having money pays for unlimited help, respite, 24/7 care if needed.

dairyfairies · 27/03/2020 10:27

the amount of views have nothing to do with the effort that went into this short video.

They are largely hiding in their second homes - not much else

dairyfairies · 27/03/2020 10:30

agree. DD has complex needs, we get zero therapy, no social care, cannot access childcare (massive impact on our ability to work and earn). I wouldn't wish a child with severe and complex needs on anyone but our life and that of DD would be a lot easier and better if we were rich instead of piss poor and struggling to cover the very basics.

Clavinova · 27/03/2020 10:31

Nearly 700,000 views already for her video - with links to the NSPCC and resources for those supporting people with autism seems pretty useful to me.

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:32

@dairyfairies Flowers

By a mistake at birth some are entitled to everything and others are entitled to nothing. It's unfair, and your situation is an example of how this kind of inequality is absolutely ridiculous in the 21st century.

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 10:33

@Clavinova

Oh sorry they copied and pasted a few links, silly me. Can you not acknowledge these multimillionaires are much better placed to give money etc than we are? Yet they expect us all to do it?

OP posts:
dairyfairies · 27/03/2020 10:37

it's just bonkers how people fall over themselves to justify the undeserving privilege of these accidental births. that's the more frustrating.

I wonder if Will, Kate & co signed up to volunteer like half a million others but I suspect they will stick to putting preachy videos and short clips of mini royals clapping on they SM accounts.

MarshaBradyo · 27/03/2020 10:45

They definitely err on the side of PR fluff in the form of social media posts and press releases than being useful.

TheSandman · 27/03/2020 11:02

"Yes - just 2 days - 5 appointments on each day."

Dear Diary.

Today I got in a helicopter and flew somewhere. Shook hands with some people in uniforms then got in a car and was driven somewhere to meet some people I will never see again.

Had my photo taken.

Got in a car and was driven somewhere where someone took me on a tour of some ghastly place where they make something.

Had my photo taken as someone next to me pointed at something .

Lunch.

Got driven somewhere. Unveiled something.

Got driven somewhere. Met some ghastly people who pointed at things and explained how they did whatever it was they did to whatever it was they do. Had my photo taken.

Tea.

Got driven somewhere where I read something out that was given to me as I walked on stage. Had my photo taken as I was doing it to save time. Apparently people thought I was very witty.

Will this ceaseless toil never end?!

And so to bed. Exhausted.

Clavinova · 27/03/2020 11:17

Dear Diary,

Today I got up late, kicked a football around a field, did a few press ups - had lunch, then a photo shoot for a sportswear brand, met some underprivileged children I will never meet again and received a cheque for £5 million.

Why don't we have a communist state where everyone gets paid the same?

Slippery slope. Grin

Wolfgirrl · 27/03/2020 11:38

So France is on a slippery slope? Hmm

Sounds good to me! Everyone gets paid a minimum wage and you can earn on top of that with an upper limit on how much you can bequeath to your kids...?

I think you've cracked it, Clavinova!
