Is no one even a little concerned about the intrusion and removal of freedoms?

I know needs must and we're in a real crisis situation but it does make me a little uneasy to see how easy it has been to remove all freedoms.

The real shocker for me today was the text messages. I've spent the last year or so working on GDPR stuff and all the "threats" associated with that. Who gave the government all our numbers?!

I know it's insignificant in the scheme of things now but is it right that it's so easy?

OP posts:
Thepigeonsarecoming · 25/03/2020 00:26

@HopeClearwater seems like the poster is saying fuck the old and I’ll, they’d have dropped dead soon enough anyway....how dare this stop me doing what I want to do. The others who died, we’ll they weren’t me so why can’t I live my life as normal

I find don’t think you can argue/debate with people like this. They will never be able to see outside their own bubble unless it personally effects them 😕

expat101 · 25/03/2020 00:40

The most annoying constant messaging I have been receiving is from an orthodontist we consulted once in regard to braces...

ItsTrueISwear · 25/03/2020 00:52

I couldn’t care less about intrusion and the removal of freedoms. I’ve got asthma and just want to get through this alive.
@StormyClouds - having asthma doesn’t mean under ‘normal’ circumstances i would be expecting to die any time soon 🙄
And does anyone really think Boris won’t let us out of out houses when this is all over?
So much crap on MN.

eaglejulesk · 25/03/2020 00:52

For crying down the sink!! Get over yourself OP, this is bigger than your silly little complaint. If you think a worldwide pandemic, causing thousands of deaths, is not important enough for you to have some for your freedoms removed then I despair of you. This crisis is really showing who the selfish idiots are.

I live in a country which has earthquakes by the way, and every now and again a tsunami alert text is sent (known about in advance), and not once have I heard anyone complain about "the government having all our numbers", which they obviously haven't, the text is sent by the providers.

Crafting1Queen · 25/03/2020 00:56

No

littlemissmuffins · 25/03/2020 01:00

No, and I'd usually be the first to complain about stuff like this. But right now, No.

Casino218 · 25/03/2020 01:03

I'm more concerned I will unknowingly be killing someone's gran if I don't adhere to this. What about her freedom to live?

angell84 · 25/03/2020 01:07

It is incredibly easy to control people

Thisisnotagame · 25/03/2020 01:12

This is our reality. Please stay inside (nurse) www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3860306-this-is-our-reality-please-stay-inside-nurse please read if you feel liberties mean more to you than this.

LuxLFC · 25/03/2020 01:25

I'm worried about the new police powers & who is likely to be disproportionately targeted by them.

Chloemol · 25/03/2020 01:26

No, they can curtail my freedom as must as they want if it means I won’t get this, or will have facilities to help if I do.

As others said the phone companies sent the message so no data shared

If everyone had followed instruction we wouldn’t be in this situation, so go talk to them about intrusion and removal of freedom

There’s enough posters on MN who think the rules don’t apply to them, so you can start with that

angell84 · 25/03/2020 01:28

@chloemol it is not true "if everyone followed instructions we wouldnt be in this situation".

You would anyway.

In Ireland we have had these severe sanctions imposed from two weeks ago.

They would have implemented this in the Uk, no matter if people were being in groups or not.

Chloemol · 25/03/2020 01:28

@LuxLFC

No one will be if they just stay at home and only come out for the four reasons given. If they choose to not follow the rules then to be honest I don’t care how the police treat them. They made a conscious choice to not follow rules that are there to safeguard everyone, and as adults aware of the consequences of their actions they must accept anything that happens to them

angell84 · 25/03/2020 01:31

See how you feel after a couple weeks in. It is awful:

Important things for people are cancelled.

I was meant to go to a grief counselling session - that was cancelled.

I tried to go to a doctor for a health condition - that was incredibly difficult - only focusing on corona at this time.

My eye test was cancelled.

My mother was sent home from hospital in terrible pain because they are only prioritisng coronavirus. So it is okay for other people to be sick then?

All that On top of not being able to see anyone. I hate all these restrictions.

Chloemol · 25/03/2020 01:31

@angell84. Possibly, but we will never know now will we?

Or it could be that we could have lasted a bit longer without full lockdown

I agree it would have come at some point, but people thinking social distancing and self isolation didn’t apply to them has definitely not helped

penisbeakers · 25/03/2020 01:33

Nope. There are more important things right now.

Mimishimi · 25/03/2020 01:39

The virus is real. The responses taken are necessary to slow spread. I am VERY concerned that it could have been a bioweapon designed to achieve exactly this level of governmental control over out society. Anyone who knows a smidgen of what went on in WW2 (or before, or afterwards) would be naive not to realise that there are certain 'born to rule' types who do NOT have the best interests of many at heart.

angell84 · 25/03/2020 01:42

What I think is a load of bullshit is why are they letting other people be so severely sick, if they care so much about people, health.

My mother's doctor told her to go into hospital because she was in such terrible pain, she has kidney problems would turned into sepsis before when she nearly died. She was in the same severe pain with this last week. She went into hospital, and they sent her home because "they are only keeping beds for coronavirus patients".

Similiarly , my friend in Scotland went into hospital severely ill, and said she is not being treated because they are only treating coronavirus.

LuxLFC · 25/03/2020 01:58

@Chloemol I didn't mean breaking up crowds. Look at what wasn't highlighted in the bill.
I also worry about police with power trips. Seen too much discrimination by them & I am scared about what this will lead to.
twitter.com/nthnashma/status/1242371137356660737?s=19

@Mimishimi The thing that makes me really question if this was all by design is the fact that they were slow to act & openly admitted they wanted the virus to spread.

Casino218 · 25/03/2020 02:07

God some batshit crazy people on this thread!

LuxLFC · 25/03/2020 02:15

It's funny how dismissive people are without even looking into anything for themselves.
If people had posted last year that the world would be in quarantine that would've been dismissed as bat shit crazy too.

Mimishimi · 25/03/2020 02:35

Casino: Look up Operation Paperclip and what Nazi scientists were doing in WW2 and still tell us that we are the batshit ones.

MissyJane2 · 25/03/2020 03:59

Yes I am very upset about this. I have not seen any police about in Goodmayes or Romford. Not sure if that was because I went out at 6pm in the evening and there was not many people about.

I am just worried they might make the lockdown stricter like Spain and Italy.

PhilCornwall1 · 25/03/2020 04:40

Who gave the government all our numbers?!

I think you'll find the mobile providers will have been given the message to send.

Boris isn't sat in Number 10 playing "Send to All".

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/03/2020 04:56

No phone providers are sending the message

I would also support those that have been tested positive to be tracked by their phone as other countries have done

And we shall be going on a stricter lock down we have been prepared for every step
