Am I being a 'Karen'

I'm part of a Facebook group to do with dogs. After the announcement yesterday someone posted that if they will still be taking their dog out 2-3 times a day because it's unfair not to. I said that this is wrong because this is deliberately flaunting the rules, I've been jumped on saying that they will get multiple people in the household if it becomes essential so their one except use a day is used for the additional walks. To me to keep people safe I said that I would've thought your hours exercise should be taken as a family unit to stop interacting with other people depending on what time you walked. I've been told by admins that until further notice there is nothing wrong with walking your dogs 2-3 times a day and that I need to stop being a 'Karen'. Am I understanding this thing wrong? I don't understand deny people are finding it so hard to stay at home. Dogs adapt and I'm sure they'd rather you be alive then dead because you didn't follow the rules 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don't think you are obliged to exercise as a family unit, but the key thing here is that people need to use common sense to minimise the number of times they leave the house, even within the rules.

I walked mine twice today. We live rurally and the first walk was very early and I saw no-one. The second was with DD and a few people were around but all a good distance way. I am doing all I can not to go to town very often to use the supermarket so I reckon I am doing my part. If it suddenly got busy around here I would stick to one walk, but that is very unlikely.

It's not about doing your part. It's about following the rules. It isn't advice anymore, it's instruction from our government.

I agree with you OP. Our lives need to change dramatically over the next three weeks. It's not tit for tat, you can't substitute one for the other. I for one haven't left the house today. So does that mean I get to go out twice tomorrow? No. That's absurd.

Yes yab a Karen to pull them up on a technical rule breach which is only hypothetical, may not happen, and if it's just a walk on their own won't be a risk anyway. They were a twat to post basically announcing "well I'm going to break the rules" but you were a twat to post "umm, I'm telling". It's not bloody school. Everyone needs to employ some common sense and get a bloody grip.

I wasn't planning on telling on people. It frustrates me that people are willing to break the rules less than 24 hours in. Yet if these people get ill they will expect help, this help could take away from others who have done everything possible to keep to the rules. They are rules, they are NOT guidelines. I want to have a summer with my family if people take a relaxed attitude now then that may not happen...

I have a dog who we exercise 3 times a day, 2 hours total . Different family members take him, we encounter nobody usually, it's no risk to anyone. The rules are in place to protect the public but you need to have common sense too, dogs can't be neglected

Personally I don't see how you are neglecting your dog... Dogs in Spain and Italy are having to adapt to tiny walks. We've focused more on mind games, new tricks and new toys... you're dog doesn't need to go out 2-3 times a day to be looked after well. If you end up with the virus you couldn't take them out at all...

Dh and I are taking our exercise separately. One of us first thing and the other in the evening, each taking the dog.

Part of the reason is the dog but the other part of it is that we don’t want to be together 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Dogs in Italy are being hired out for walks. As it is one of the few reasons to go outside, dogs were being walked 10+ times per day by different people.

I love the 'oh it's ok as I live rurally and in the countryside' excuse to not follow the rules and guidelines.

It's the same for everyone, your dog doesn't suddenly get to have more exercise based on where you live.

Mine would love to be out, off lead, all day. But I'm following the rules set for a reason.

I am walking my Rottie once a day with my daughter, the walk is a bit longer than normal, but I have to abide by the rules as I don’t want to kill my mum or mother in law by doing what I want. It’s this selfish attitude of I can do what I want that will get us all on a stricter lockdown.

The rules outlined were to go outside once, either alone or with your family. So for a household to divide that between two walks is surely completely in line with the guidance, and anyone taking multiple jaunts outside for exercise is completely opposite to the guidelines.

Your dog would need to be out 2-3 times a day if you don't have a garden, so two people following guidelines like RitaConnors seems reasonable to me.

The advice is you are allowed to take exercise outdoors once per day, as long as you stick to that and social distancing, and wash your hands when you come home, I can’t see the problem (I have a PhD in infectious diseases btw).

I don’t have a dog, but my dc have been outside nearly all day for 2 weeks (while we’ve been self isolating). We take at least 1, sometimes 2 walks a day. We have 100 private acres to roam. I’ve seen no one. If you are wisely risk assessing it, then there’s no issue. Just don’t go on a public footpath or to your local park and take a walk in public space more than once a day.

We're walking our medium sized dog twice a day: 10 am and 7/7.30pm. we're in a flat in Spain, no garden, not allowed out for exercise.

I'd walk her midday, too, but last weekend she was sniffing at a large ball of spit on the pavement

A Karen is a bossy woman, who goes excuse me, and wants your manager to complain about you.

DP took dog out for a walk this morning. I took dog out late afternoon. Neither of us got close to anyone else. I thought that would be ok?

The way I have been looking at it is if you go out together you limit contact with other people as your whole family will meet the same people as you're on the same walk. I have a working dog who normally gets 3 walks a day all about an hour each and normally off lead. These last few days she's had one hour long walk then mind games and scent work around the house. She was a bit miffed the first day but not fussed now intact has been calmer and curled up on the sofa. She's been strictly on lead as well. Another post has just been put up by admins encouraging people to take their dogs out twice a day still (even in one person households) sigh will this ever end if people ignore the rules

There was no need to brag about your kids being out all day every day for the last two weeks either, when thousands of parents reading this will have had to keep their kids cooped up in their flats or houses with out ANY garden. Hugely insensitive
