The lockdown rules don’t apply to my particular situation because:

  • I have a holiday booked and it’s in the middle of nowhere so we won’t infect anyone;
  • I’m worried about getting an overdue book fine from the library;
  • My dog has poor recall but needs off-lead exercise so I can’t stay local for walks because I live in a built-up area;
  • I need to socialise my puppy;
  • My DH wants to take the DC to see the ILs.

All seen on MN this evening. Anyone want to add to the list?

macaroniandpizza · 24/03/2020 14:09

My post is intended as good humour btw not meaning it in a goady way at all

SnoozyLou · 24/03/2020 14:22

I'm special because I just got a text from Boris telling me I'm grounded.

Winterjoy · 24/03/2020 14:27

I don't think I'm special but the charity I volunteer with has told me I am - email today saying we volunteers are 'Key Workers' because we walk dogs of vulnerable people so to continue walks as normal, also one walk per day doesn't apply to us so feel free to do as many walks a day as necessary Confused

Not feeling comfortable with the advice at all. Feel they may have interpreted the key worker criteria rather loosely tbh.

BigFatLiar · 24/03/2020 14:46

I'm special, I know because when I was little my mum told me I was.

DontCallMeShitley · 24/03/2020 14:57

We took our permitted exercise today, a short walk. Everyone moving aside for each other, all good.

Until it changed, and in spite of moving as far away as possible from everyone, there were young people engrossed in their phones, walking straight at everyone. What is wrong with these 'special' young people? Everyone else was carefully avoiding each other and saying thank you, except these idiots.

Special bloody children. Guess I will be staying in for the next three weeks then.

Zenithbear · 24/03/2020 15:01

Because I don't understand the three words
Stay At Home

Because my elderly parents say that I can pop round as usual

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2020 15:04

I'm thinking of carrying a walking pole.
Mainly so that if one of us twists an ankle we can limp home, but a bit of waving about might come in handy. Though everyone around here, so far, is sensible.

Hoppinggreen · 24/03/2020 15:10

My parents are special because sdad likes to walk and get The Daily Mail every day from the papershop

SnoozyLou · 24/03/2020 15:20

If you can jab them with it, they got too close. I think that's fair.

Joans3rddaughter · 24/03/2020 15:26

If people are not sure if it is a good reason to ignore the Government's instructions. They should ask themselves "Will it matter if I am on an induced coma on a ventilator?"
That might help them decide

ErrolTheDragon · 24/03/2020 15:26

It works if I have to walk along a country road - with a stick, no car has ever come close to scratching its paintwork on it. For people I'd probably hold the pointy end as hurting someone, even an idiot, is not on the agenda!

SimonJT · 24/03/2020 16:30

Well after lots of phoning around I couldn’t get a delivery of my medication, so I had to break my 14 day isolation to get my meds including insulin, worryingly I had to go to three different pharmacies to get the type of insulin I need.

They were all letting people in one at a time, yet some people were insisting on being so close to the person in front they were almost having a piggy back ride.

Sorry people are such idiots, SimonJT. Hopefully pharmacies will start to get deliveries organised. Ours (attached to a rural GPs) used to have one with volunteer drivers - once the antibody tests become available it might be a good thing for people who've already had CV to do. Unlike other deliveries it wouldn't need a van.

stardance · 24/03/2020 17:07

I work in a nursery so have to send my children to school so that I can go to work to care for key worker children. (OH is also a key worker who can't work from home.) But we have so few children in that we don't need to be fully staffed. So my children are in school at risk of catching the virus (although the teachers have been great at making sure they're washing hands, staying away from each other etc) while I am at work at risk of catching the virus (impossible to stay 2m away from babies and young children)

I do not want to work! I am terrified that I'm going to make my children poorly. Currently my only way out of this is to hand my notice in. Our boss is not reducing hours, she's not putting anybody on the the 80% paid furlough that the government are offering. Staff are expected in unless self isolating.

BikeRunSki · 24/03/2020 20:13

DiNATwist I work in construction, and we’ve had some very detailed planning discussions over the last few days about actually how we can continue with a couple of large flood defence alleviation schemes. What’s can stop, what is critical. Because actually, what we as a nation don’t want is more flooding. That really would break the emergency services.

What we didn’t need to talk about much was personal hygiene, because contrary to popular belief, it’s already very good on site, because you’re right, construction sites can bevare dirty places. So we have plenty of hand washing facilities, clean/dirty sides of the changing rooms, hand sanitizer pumps everywhere, proper toilets and showers if on site for more than 4 weeks. PPE gloves and masks anyway. Often, personalised face fitted masks. No facial hair. Clean kitchen and rest areas, hot running water and soap in several locatiobs. Cleaners come in every day. Hell, I’ve been to some unhygienic places, but a modern construction site is not one of them.

My kids are going to have to go in on Thursday by the looks of things and I do feel bad about it. Husband is a key worker but I am not. He isn't in school tomorrow, but has to be on Thursday, so unless things change or he can get cover, they will have to go (because I'm now self-isolating). I do feel bad about it, but it is what it is really.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 25/03/2020 07:13

@Jourdain11 are you not in the home?

Are you classed as vulnerable or do you have symptoms?

Wouldnt it be safer for them not to go in? If you are vulnerable?

If you have symptoms they cant go in.

LostaraYil · 25/03/2020 07:22

My DH still insists that he needs to go to his office even though he could work from home, because he is working on a project with 2 other people and needs to talk to them, and because there isn't enough room at home to set up the 2 screens he needs! Nice to know that our health is so far down on his list of priorities...

Jourdain11 · 25/03/2020 09:02

@Itsnotthatcomplicated I don't have symptoms. I've been told to self-isolate for the moment because I'm having some urgnt blood tests and scan done. The problem is, I can't look after them from isolation, and it isn't like I can send them to a friend or get a babysitter!

OrangeTwirl · 25/03/2020 09:08

Why can’t you look after your own children, at home Jourdain?

Jourdain11 · 25/03/2020 09:12

I can't really do that if I am supposed to be isolating? Unless I'm completely not getting something right? How could I keep an eye on what they're doing, make sure they are washed and fed etc?
