How will you be interpreting ‘one form of exercise a day?’

For me it will be a bike ride - keeps you at a safe distance from others.

Will not be doing any particularly dangerous form of cycling - no mountain biking or anything crazy before people start!

People are just going to tale the piss and then this right will be removed too.

I give it until Thursday.

Scrowy · 23/03/2020 23:38

She normally gets 2-3 big walks a day (huge open countryside and hills here)

It's the law to keep dogs on a lead on open access land between 1st March - 31st July to protect ground nesting birds.

morriseysquif · 23/03/2020 23:39

Well I cycle to work there and back and I'll go for the occasional run the days when I'm not at work.

wejammin · 23/03/2020 23:43

I don't really see how people (runners) can complain that suddenly everyone and his dog is out for a walk and being selfish, when suddenly we're all trapped in our houses for 23 1/2 hours of the day. Normally I don't go for a daily walk (although I do often at weekends with the kids) but I do the school run, walk to the tram, walk to the office, walk to get lunch etc. I will need a daily walk, keeping a safe distance, in a way I didn't last week. Everyone's routine is changing, you can't take the high road because a bit of yours is staying the same.

Cohle · 23/03/2020 23:49

It seems like lots of posters are trying to obey the letter of the law rather than the spirit. I'll be staying inside wherever possible, including for exercise, not searching out loopholes in the rules.

UYScuti · 23/03/2020 23:51

Then they can tell the dog walker to put the dog on a lead there and then
I frequently come across free-roaming intimidating dogs ....but the sorts of owners that have intimidating dogs tend to be people who don't take kindly to being told what to do with their dog🙈
It would be a great relief to me if all dogs were always on leads!

dkanin · 23/03/2020 23:52

My exercise will be walking to the fridge once an hour

LaurieFairyCake · 24/03/2020 00:01

Me and the dog will go for a hour/2 hour walk every day all over London

5zeds · 24/03/2020 00:01

We’ll mostly take our exercise in the garden, and occasionally go for a bike ride.

FlamedToACrisp · 24/03/2020 00:05

I won't be going out to take exercise. Every time I go out for a cigarette, I'll walk to and fro up and down our small garden. If I feel more energetic than that I'll mow the lawn, dig the garden, wash the car... I'm only going out to collect prescriptions or buy food if I can't get an online slot.

LaneBoy · 24/03/2020 00:08

I’ll just walk in the park near our house. I did this the other day before I had to self isolate, I was out for 40 mins.

We have an exercise bike too, I might set up a family distance challenge or something.

UYScuti · 24/03/2020 00:13

Would rollerskating be allowed I wonder?
suppose it's a bit risky (especially as I can't even do it yet🙈)
I will stick to my usual slow careful running

DeadButDelicious · 24/03/2020 00:13

DH works four on four off in distribution so will need to go to work (it's not like he can have 300 pallets dropped off so he can work from home) so on his four on I will take our 3 year old and our dog for a walk round the block and on his four off one will take the toddler out and one will take the dog.

I also need to drop some essentials on my mum and dads doorstep (mum is super high risk so can't go anywhere, which means dad can't either) tomorrow to tide them over till we can get a shopping delivery sorted for them, so will be timing my exercise tomorrow around that.

Branster · 24/03/2020 00:17

My exercise will be walking to the fridge once an hour ... staring at the void beyond the fridge door.

AnotherMurkyDay · 24/03/2020 00:17

We will be exercising loads, but once a day (maybe every other day) I will take the kids out to actually run in open space and enjoy the sky and the sound of birds and things like that. If I didn't have kids to worry about them I would stay in more than that. Plenty of ways to get a workout at home (and we don't have outdoor space)

hussandchips56 · 24/03/2020 00:21

Oh I like the idea of roller skating, I can skate but haven't got any, are you still allowed non essentials from online shops?

Think I will just be sticking to my garden, I have one of those evil weighted hula hoops and for extra fun poi. Might do a bit of dancing too.

Will miss the machines at the gym though. Not really the same with a couple of cans of beans. Although can you imagine this 60 something, skating along while hula hooping with the hoop of torture carrying a tin of beans in each hand.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 24/03/2020 00:37

Walking from the couch to the fridge Grin. Maybe hanging some washing out in the garden if the weather is nice. In all seriousness I live in a large city and there are always people around, even in the quiet spots. I plan on staying in as much as possible. YouTube had lots of work out videos if I want exercise. I may also need to help my mum out with caring for her horse a couple of days a week now so all the stable cleaning and water bucket carrying will be good exercise.
I will not be going in walks, cycling, jogging round the park or anything else at the moment. I guarantee parks will be mobbed with people out ‘exercising’ and will soon be closed too.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 24/03/2020 00:39

For the roller skating idea - I would avoid anything that risks falling and breaking a bone. The last place anyone wants to be right now is A&E

Metoyoutoo · 24/03/2020 06:09

Walks are meant to be kept to a minimum length of time. You can’t go out in a 30 mile bike ride or walk 2 hours. He was clear on that. I can see much further measures being introduced because of the selfishness of people

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/03/2020 06:18

Dog walk.

I might have to dust off my bike.

hussandchips56 · 24/03/2020 06:21

Ah good thinking about the roller skating and falling and breaking something, I'll give the skates a miss and the tins of beans, just in case I drop one on my toe😁 The poi are now looking a bit dangerous too as I'm always hitting myself on the head with them.

Sameold2020 · 24/03/2020 06:31

Can dog walkers please be aware that we are now having to exercise our children, probably in the same spaces as you. Please keep your dogs on leads. THREE times huge dogs ran up to the children at the weekend and ran off with their balls. The same owner had to be asked three times.

Imapotato · 24/03/2020 06:35

Waking the dogs. I’m a key worker, so will be on my feet all day at work anyway.

MotorwayDiva · 24/03/2020 06:42

Walking locally, fairly rural. Maybe yoga in the garden?

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 24/03/2020 06:49

I bought Dd a winter wetsuit, we live near a secluded beach not many people go to as there aren't any facilities, its wide so people can keep their distance we will go for a walk along, look for sea glass and then she can go for a swim.
