Are these things allowed in lockdown?

These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

OP posts:

Got our MOT done today. Mind you we can't go anywhere so not much of a win really.

Olawisk · 23/03/2020 22:18

Laughable that people are more worried about taking there dogs out for multiple walks a day then staying indoors to save people’s bloody lives!! Ffs. Your all be moaning when it’s your family that need a ventilator and there are none because selfish twats like you wanted to walk your dog multiple times a day.

1 x a day!!!

chergar · 23/03/2020 22:18

I am sure there will be in depth answers to these questions published by the morning. There is no point speculating on what is and isn't allowed.

For the moment assume we are on tight lockdown, every time you leave your house you put your or someone else's life at risk, if leaving your house is worth that risk then it is essential, if not, stay at home.

This isn't about how these measures will inconvenience you and disrupt your life, it is to save lives.

I read vets have been told only to give essential treatment anyway.
And I would guess that a builders merchants will stay open for essential supplies for urgent repairs. They will not be open to the public.

I have dentist appointment for teeth filling tomorrow, anyone reckons it’s not allowed
I would think that would go ahead as a medical need.
My dentist always wears a mask and protective glasses anyway so they may have better protection now.

Be interested to know whether this treatment does go ahead.

In Spain you’re allowed to go out with the dog, in fact, many people tried to make money out of it and put adverts out to ‘rent’ the dog for walks.

I think, also, if you’re a key worker, your employer will give you a paper to confirm it in case the police stops you.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 22:20

This thread demonstrates perfectly why lockdown was needed. Still, so many special ones trying to find reasons to do precisely what they want to. 🙄

Bluntness100 · 23/03/2020 22:20

He didn't say only if the work was essential

Agree, I was misled by that poster, I watched again, he said if it was absolutely necessary as can’t be done from home.

Which is again very different.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 22:21

1 period of exercise will be to allow social distancing. If everyone goes out 3 times there are too many people ad social distancing is impossible.

Sockwomble · 23/03/2020 22:22

I go for a run early in the morning and the take my disabled son for a walk during the day. I class the first as my exercise and the second as caring for a vulnerable person whilst they take their exercise.

Postspecific · 23/03/2020 22:22

If you need to exercise more rigorously that a dog walk allows, can you get a piece of home gym equipment. I think once a day means exactly that.

Eckhart · 23/03/2020 22:22

@NuclearWinter Well said. You can't just make a list of a handful of blanket, life-changing rules and expect people not to have questions or to be affected in different ways. There's verbal abuse and name calling going on here, it's inexcusable. We're all stressed, we all want to obey the rules, some vital things have not been made clear, we have a requirement for clarity. To all those saying that this requirement is a direct attempt to 'get round the restrictions', you are lacking the humanity to see that whilst your lifestyle makes it easy, other lifestyles may not. To all those insulting those with questions, you are simply lacking humanity.

mentalblank · 23/03/2020 22:22

I'm confused about whether going out into the enclosed back garden of your house (eg as mentioned above) is actually allowed, other than in your one exercise slot per day. The very brief guidance says "You should only leave the house for one of four reasons..." which suggests not. But then elsewhere the word "home" is used, which might include your garden. Hopefully a much more detailed set of guidelines will be published soon.

A quick glance through legal Twitter reveals very little chance of anyone being caught for minor breaches - in most cases it will be impossible to prove and the police don't have the numbers to enforce anyway.

BUT I don't think the measures are worthless. The police will have the power to stop gatherings which are the main danger. If you're out on a bike and see a couple of friends the temptation to stop and chat will be less if you think the police might be round the corner. And that's the danger rather than a solitary walk with the dog and then a solitary bike ride later on.

alloutoffucks · 23/03/2020 22:22

I would have thought all house moves would be postponed.

Heihei · 23/03/2020 22:25

Please don’t all get annoyed as I am asking this for a friend. Friend is our dog walker. She does not need to walk our dog from now on. BUT she walks dogs for some key NHS staff and elderly clients. Should she continue to walk these specific customers? Does anyone know who she can contact to find out?

willowpatterns · 23/03/2020 22:26

Do you know what - DH, the dc and I all sat down and watched that broadcast, and practically the minute it ended, I said that all the dog owners would be up in arms and complaining that a once-a-day walk isn't enough.

I was right, wasn't I?

fikel · 23/03/2020 22:26

Are takeaways allowed to trade with delivery only?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 22:26

I want to know if walking the dog is classed as my exercise!

Unless you are riding the dog, it's your exercise too.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 23/03/2020 22:26

I took my car to the garage last weekend and the said they were deemed essential workers. I would imagine they will still be open.

Mumof2bears · 23/03/2020 22:27

According to www.bbc/news/business:

"Only a small group of retailers will be allowed to stay open including:

Supermarkets
Pharmacies
Newsagents
Hardware stores
Banks
Pet shops
Post Offices
Petrol stations
Vets
Retail shops in hospitals
Laundrettes
Funeral homes
However, retailers will still be able to take online orders and deliver items to your home."

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 22:28

I go for a run early in the morning and the take my disabled son for a walk during the day. I class the first as my exercise and the second as caring for a vulnerable person whilst they take their exercise.

And so it begins . . .

Mumof2bears · 23/03/2020 22:29

Sorry, that should be

@HPFA - A quick glance through legal Twitter reveals very little chance of anyone being caught for minor breaches - in most cases it will be impossible to prove and the police don't have the numbers to enforce anyway.

In Madrid (the county, not just the city) the police issued over 8000 tickets on the first week of lockdown.

stickerqueen · 23/03/2020 22:30

will the gas man come to do our boiler safety check still? I really don't want a stranger in my home.
