These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

If your dog is going to go mad without 2 walks then you’ll have to go for 2 walks. You’re not doing it for your exercise it’s looking after the dog properly.

MaybeDoctor · 23/03/2020 22:30

I like dogs a reasonable amount and would never, ever be knowingly unkind to an animal, but given that we are in a situation where the restrictions may well have a significant impact on children's education and development I am getting a bit tired about hearing about the needs of dogs.

Bouledeneige · 23/03/2020 22:30

I dont think an MOT matters. Obviously DVLA are aware of the government's annoucement! Unless you're car is about to blow up there's no reason that just because the MOT is due it will suddenly breakdown. Common sense really.

RoseDog · 23/03/2020 22:31

My dog could manage without the exercise it's the toileting that's the problem, someone has trained her not to toilet near her home/bed/food, no idea!! I have both a front and back garden with the choice of decking, grass and slabs for her to toilet on but she will not do it, any tips, without treats to retrain her?

MaybeDoctor · 23/03/2020 22:32

That is not aimed at the previous poster nor addressed to anyone in particular, but just a general observation.

SewItGoes · 23/03/2020 22:33

Some people need to calm down.

A dog needs to relieve itself more than once a day. For dog-owners who don't have a garden or other enclosed space they can just let the dog out in, they should be allowed to walk outside, just far enough so that the dog can do its business off the actual doorstep, then go right back in. A dog doesn't have to have multiple long, recreational walks every day (much as it might want to), but you can't expect a living, breathing dog to only "toilet" once a day! It's cruel to suggest otherwise.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 22:33

My dogs favourite is bobbing for frozen veg in a small paddling pool

We tried this. Within minutes the pool had been chewed and deflated. Should have got one of those with walls . . .

Sockwomble · 23/03/2020 22:34

No SchadenfreudePersonified it is perfectly reasonable. Leading my severely disabled teenage son around is not exercise, it is caring.

Eckhart · 23/03/2020 22:34

@willowpatterns Yes you were right, although I suspect the owners with gardens aren't so concerned. Those of us without gardens are wondering how any creature could humanely be expected only to pee once a day.

And those of you saying we shouldn't have dogs if we don't have a garden: It's not been an issue for me and my dog for 8 years, but obviously I should have seen this coming in 2012 and not got a puppy!

ButiLoveHim32 · 23/03/2020 22:34

If your dog is going to go mad without 2 walks then you’ll have to go for 2 walks Ah, no, you actually don't. What make you think you can? Did you not hear once a day??

Olawisk · 23/03/2020 22:34

@fikel are takeaways essential ? Really. Cook your own food.

BorsetshireBlueBalls · 23/03/2020 22:34

@mentalblank - is garden included in definition of home. Yes, I would think so. You aren't going to meet anyone other than family members/members of your own household in your enclosed back garden, are you? Unless you have invited them (don't invite them, that's not allowed). So if you are fortunate enough to have a garden, you can work/exercise there and it won't count as leaving home. If you want to take the dog for a walk/run in the local park, you can also do that. Or get out on your bike. That's your one excursion for exercise a day.

My garden is going to be very tidy! Will have to suppress the urge to prune everything to its last leaf.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 23/03/2020 22:34

O know my STBXH is going to want to come and see my son.

He lives with his elderly parents it will probably also go and see his tart girlfriend

How can I convince him without starting WW3

controversialquestion · 23/03/2020 22:35

Genuine question - why are three 30 min walks in the middle of nowhere with a dog more of a risk than one 2 hour one, which is presumably allowed. Not trying to be difficult - doesn’t affect me at all and not complaining about the rules (they obviously have to be clear) - just don’t quite understand the vitriol and shaming.

Olawisk · 23/03/2020 22:36

@Eckhart - why have you even got a dog without a bloody garden to let it out in. Completely selfish before this whole convid situation so of course your carry on being selfish thinking taking your dog out is more important then other people’s lives.

DigitalGhost · 23/03/2020 22:36

Due in 4 weeks what happens if I went into labour before that and I need my mum to have my DD whilst me and my husband go to hospital. Is that kind of thing allowed as I'm shitting myself now thinking I'm going to have to give birth alone.

Highlights12 · 23/03/2020 22:36

@SchadenfreudePersonified
That made me laugh 😂

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 22:36

"I don’t think they can monitor how often you go out to exercise"

Depends how many people live in your area and go out to exercise

Where I live (by the Rhine path) it would be fairly easy to spot someone who is out more than once or twice, as so few people

  • police usually have good memories for faces & clothes
fitflopqueen · 23/03/2020 22:36

my car booked for MOT and service tomorrow morning, will ring before taking and if ok will incorporate dog walk, not far from home.

barnabybenny · 23/03/2020 22:39

Independent garages are open, possibility on skeleton staff, otherwise how will key workers get to work if their car breaks? MoTs are non- contact, weighing up the risk of transmitting the virus and the risk of not having an MoT I’m guessing the latter is higher.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 23/03/2020 22:39

A parcel is a parcel, the courier doesn't know 'oh, Eileen sent this from an Ebay sale, let's put it aside'

Why didnt Boris mention Eileen's ebay parcels for gods sake

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 22:39

A dog needs the loo a few times a day;
this can be to the nearest bit of grass - and bring your scooper

The dog can have a single one hour walk - even if it may want more - provided you keep the 2m distance to other people

MirandaWest · 23/03/2020 22:39

I am pretty sure that going in the garden is fine. As DH and I work from the converted garage in the garden it had better be! And as there’s no toilet there we have to come back to the house relatively often

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/03/2020 22:39

The winners are those with the most boring lives and nothing to lose. Or those who love sticking extremely close to the rule book- the jobs worth lot.

NellyGrace. Well that’s a useful attitude when the world is in a state of crisis. Stamp your feet like a child and insult others. Fucking grow up.

SewItGoes · 23/03/2020 22:40

(And as for the kids vs dogs thing, at least children can pee and poo indoors, unlike dogs. Hmm I have faith that children's development won't be hindered too severely by this ordeal, in the long run.)
