These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

@WhatAMum01- I gave up fast food to get pregnant and all I can think about is McDonald’s right now - the crave is real and strong! Since I have been feeling nauseous everyday husbands been eating take out in the spare room or eating dead salads that I make. If there is no take out we are screwed 🤣

swishthecat · 23/03/2020 23:38

All of you trying to find ways of flouting the rules - did any of you see the footage from Madrid? People lying in the corridors of a hospital coughing their guts up. Dying. Why would you want to risk that?

I'm finding all the ways I can not to go out rather than the other way around. You people scare the shit out of me and I don't want to risk encountering any of you. STAY HOME.

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:39

@Hockeyboysmum so sorry to hear that. it puts the selfishness into perspective. You haven't failed though, even if your body or genes have let you down - you know didn't do anything to cause it and would have moved heaven and earth to prevent it.

TheGinGenie · 23/03/2020 23:40

One person can spread it to 59,000 people. So you might only see one person a day during whatever you're doing, but it spreads so quickly that it doesn't limit to that one person. Watch the Channel 4 Dispatches programme on isolation.

We have these restrictions for a really fucking good reason. Our lives SHOULD be changing or we are not doing it properly.

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:42

@AnotherMurkyDay Anecdotal but I have heard people getting on ok with smaller shops. My advice would be:

  1. go to your nearest shop (that's what they HAVE to do in the rest of Europe lockdowns)
  2. Go with an open mind not a set list - be flexible.
swishthecat · 23/03/2020 23:42

If people don't listen, we are going to be Italy+++

BillieEilish · 23/03/2020 23:44

You lot don't have a clue what is about to hit you. Not a clue.

I have been on lockdown for 10 days in Spain, I am TERRIFIED of even going to the shop and get there and back as quick as possible. As infrequently as possible. (7mins on foot)

Everyone is so suspicious of each other and keeps their distance and wears face masks and gloves and you better bare that in mind. HUGE police presence out of nowhere.

You'll see. It will eventually become real to some of the imbeciles on this thread that you could DIE or your loved ones could DIE.

I am leaving the thread, the 'nails needed to be done' tipped me over the edge.

Good Luck as you are clearly going to need it.

Inappropriatefemale · 23/03/2020 23:45

@ACertainSupermarket Yes it’s such an awful situation and I can’t let my mind go there too much as I have 4 members of my immediate family that are in the vulnerable group, as do the whole world of course, and if I think of it too much I think I’ll have a panic attack.Sad

I can’t help but think that Mother Nature is “teaching us a lesson” almost, New York has the cleanest air on record at the minute and the Dolphins are swimming through the Venice waters again, and I can’t help but think it’s the animals turn now to be happy since we humans have fucked up the environment so much with our frequent flying and fast paced way of life, it’s certainly made me stop and think and I hope to god most of us do. I was speaking to my stepdad today about travelling via flying and how people just have zero patience these days because you may get to London from Edinburgh in what 45mins to an hour Confused flying but why not just drive, his argument was that it takes hours and I was thinking so bloody what, if it helps the sea life then is it really that bad that you won’t be in London in under an hour, people have zero patience these days and insist on flying many times a year to exotic locations (understandably) and money is the focus for too many folks, do we need all the crap we buy really...it’s all making me think and I for one am going to change many things when all of this is over.

Does anyone else agree about Mother Nature paying us a lesson? We have been killing animals for a long time through impatience, selfishness, greed etc etc Sad and karma is getting us back BIG TIMESad

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 23/03/2020 23:45

Thanks ACertainSupermarket. I think it should work quite well as a support system for my elderly Dad. It is helpful to bounce it off other people as an idea as this situation could go on for a long time and there is no way he could walk to the shops.

TheGinGenie · 23/03/2020 23:45

@mentalblank I'd consider your garden to be your house as long as you're still 2 metres away from your neighbours (which you probably would be)

Chattycatty · 23/03/2020 23:46

I'm a key worker have to work no choice, my ds is with his dad exh who is also a key worker until Wednesday. We don't want to put ds in school with the childcare system asking us to care from home. I've changed my hours so we can split between 2 homes so what do I do now?

pigsDOfly · 23/03/2020 23:47

This thread is like a town meeting on The Simpsons

Bloody hell, isn't it just.

From the posters worrying about their dogs three walks a day, to the poster worrying about her nails, to the poster telling us all that it's not an official lockdown because there's a coffee shop open somewhere.

The Prime Minister has told us we are officially in lockdown, people are dying in large numbers, the country is soon going to run out of hospital bed.

Don't people hear what comes through their television speakers?

People need to take this seriously, stop making it all about them and their oh so important lives and just do what they bloody well should be doing in order to keep this virus from spreading.

MadisonAvenue · 23/03/2020 23:48

Shopping is a bigger problem than people taking exercise. Thanks to the hoarders I’m having to go to several shops before I can get a loaf of bread or some milk. The food I bought when we were advised to keep two weeks worth in case of quarantine is gradually being eaten because there’s precious little else in the shops for meals for now. We only have a small Co-Op in our village which is constantly selling out of the essentials and basically anything that can be used to make a meal so it then means a trip to the nearest town.

AnotherMurkyDay · 23/03/2020 23:51

@ACertainSupermarket

I'm happy to be flexible but am worried about some of the items that seem to be being Stock piled the most which we also need. I've heard smaller stores are actually better for those items though. Even while I have been on this thread I have thought of a small overlooked mini supermarket that might well meet our needs. It's hard to get out of habitual thought patterns and behaviours but that's exactly what we all need to be doing right now.

Inappropriatefemale · 23/03/2020 23:51

Criticising us by making out we are thick isn’t helping anyone.

I hate that the internet allows folks to say things that they wouldn’t dare say to people’s faces.Angry

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2020 23:53

AnotherMurkyDay it may be worth checking if there are smaller local suppliers of various foods in your area. A neighbour alerted us to a company which specialised in delivering wholesale fruit and veg to pubs etc now offering to deliver veg boxes plus bread, milk and eggs. They'd had to start laying off staff as the pub and cafe business dwindled and then stopped, so using these companies can be a win-win. We're hoping to find something similar for meat.

Criticising us by making out we are thick isn’t helping anyone

Agreed inappropriatefemale. There are some particularly mean responses on this thread to some perfectly valid questions.

changemynamechangemynamewhen · 24/03/2020 00:01

@inappropriatefemale that's where you're wrong. As a frontline nhs worker risking mine and my families health I absolutely would say it to your face

tangledyarn · 24/03/2020 00:05

Please dont try and bend the rules it's just the height of selfishness. Everyone will want an excuse to get out multiple times a day, that's not the deal here. Honestly, I've had 'mild cv' for over 2 weeks it's been absolutely horrendous..the idea that people are going to actively do things to risk this and much much worse for other people appalls me. I've been isolating for that time, we all essentially have to act now as if we have the virus other than to do the very clear things that have been listed. Just give up the bargaining and accept it, we are already way way too late.

Livandme · 24/03/2020 00:08

Im seriously questioning the stuff on this thread.
It's unbelievable
Me. Me. Me
Get a grip, think of others.

AnotherMurkyDay · 24/03/2020 00:10

@ErrolTheDragon

I will have a look around. I used to try and support local businesses and shop from smaller stores like deli, green grocer, fish monger, butcher, bakers, etc. But life got busy I guess and it became easier just to get it all in one go. This really is a time to reassess the way we do things the way we do and why (and the cost of all those short cuts in life). It's put things in perspective already. It's like I was blinkered before into just doing shit and getting shit done detached from the reality of what life actually is and it's value. Now I can't help thinking about all the time I've wasted not telling the people I love how much I love them and showing them. If changing my shopping habits helps to make sure that I get to see them again then that's worth it 1000x over but it is still a shock and it's taking me a while to process. As other people on here I think just a massive shock and trying to work out what the big picture means to our 'little lives'

fikel · 24/03/2020 00:16

My question is as a business owner 😡 It is not clear and needs clarity

ACertainSupermarket · 24/03/2020 00:16

Desperate advice from a supermarket worker.
GO SOLO (if at all poss) AND GO LESS
Can't find tinned tomatoes? There's plenty of fresh ones. They can be chopped and frozen or will last a good week in the fridge.
No pasta or rice? While I appreciate they are cheap filling foods, there's plenty of ready made meals on the shelves.
No beans or tomato soup? Buy veg stock cubes and make your own stew or soup.
No eggs or flour? Don't bake that week.
No toilet roll? Cut up some old t shirts for washable wipes, or have a jug of water in the bathroom for the (much more hygienic) Asian way of cleaning after the toilet.
No anti- bac wipes? If you have disinfectant, make up a solution and fill an empty spray bottle.
No hand-wash? Shower gel does the same thing, it's simply detergent.
Get creative. Change your habits. Most of us will have more time on our hands for cooking and learning new things.
