Are these things allowed in lockdown?

These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

@Eckhart Codswallop

Well, no animal rehoming centre will allow an adoption of a Dog to someone who has no garden. Fact

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:19

@OverTheRainbowLiesOz
That sounds a very practical arrangement, I feel certain there would be zero chance of fining people for doing ad hoc carer type support for the community.

Ginkypig · 23/03/2020 23:20

Just to clarify.

My cat is seriously chronically ill, she is on lifelong medication and the blood test is to see if the dose is keeping her condition under control because if it isn't she will likely die.

I have specifically said in all my posts I will call the vet. I will do that so they can decide using their professional knowledge wether it is a medical must for her to be seen or if they think she can wait. If they do then it would be animal neglect to ignore that.

I am not trying to get around lockdown, I believe firmly that this is a very serious situation for us that isn't even a strong enough description! all and every single one of us must take responsibility to protect others by following the rules put in place to that will slow the spread and allow the people fighting on the frontline to cope with what is coming.

helgahelga · 23/03/2020 23:22

Are hotels going to stay open? Like Premier, Ibis, Travelodge, Holiday Inn???

They are not mentioned anywhere. (Not that I can see.)

I did hear (a few days ago) that the Government were thinking of using budget hotels to house rough sleepers, and that key workers, and essential contractors need them for accommodation.

This thread is like a town meeting on The Simpsons

I’m sat here like 🙄 at this thread. The nail gel extensions sent me over the edge. For goodness sake people, take your nail extensions off yourself. WTAF?

mateysmum · 23/03/2020 23:22

@innapropriatefemale*

It really really is official. What didn't you understand about "state of emergency" and "police will enforce" with fines if necessary. Cafes are not allowed to open.

It is no longer advice. Boris has finally pulled the trigger on lockdown and you MUST obey the rules.

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:23

@Inappropriatefemale
Said on the news playgrounds within parks to be closed off. If you think it's fine to carry on because Shelly next door is though...

AnotherMurkyDay · 23/03/2020 23:23

@ACertainSupermarket

Yes I have spent the last few days looking at all our options as we have been socially isolating due to symptoms and I was concerned about this in a potential lock down situation. I am relieved to know it's possible hopefully we won't need to but 3 weeks is a while if there are no delivery slots (especially on top of our nearly 14 days, so nearly 5 weeks)

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:24

Yes. Crackers. Cannot believe the stuff I'm reading.

helgahelga · 23/03/2020 23:25

@Ginkypig Don't worry! If you cat needs help or care, you are entitled to take her to the vet. Smile

RoseCider · 23/03/2020 23:25

Someone I think in Spain did a marathon on their balcony the other day Blimey, they must have a big balcony...

I took him over 7 hours....and the next point is?

WhatAMum01 · 23/03/2020 23:26

Are all takeaways to be shut??the thought of cooking three meals a day 7 days a week forever😱

Qwerty543 · 23/03/2020 23:26

My DCs are 12 and 9 and I'm a single parent. Would you leave them both or just take the 9 year old? 12 year old likes being left at home anyway.

I also would like contact with their dad to continue. He lives minutes away. I work from home and they've been there loads lately anyway. If the government come right out and say children need to stay with the resident parent then I'll have to change this.

Inappropriatefemale · 23/03/2020 23:26

I didn’t say it was fine at all, I don’t have a young child that goes to a play park, I just mentioned it seen as it’s right outside my house.

What I mean by official is that its not illegal to go out is it at the moment and I thought lockdown was just starting when the Army comes, which they will be, a family member seen them last night on his way to work and they had lots of coffins on their truck, or whatever vehicle it was.Sad

I haven’t gone out necessarily, I was merely stating something I thought to be the case so no need to make out I’m going out willy nilly, and Cafe Nerro was open tonight but it may change from tomorrow.

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:27

@AnotherMurkyDay
Yes delivery is going to be restricted to elderly and disabled largely, bear in mind we are losing drivers to illness or isolation. We are honestly working our socks off, just need the public to stop thinking they need to shop every day in case they run out of loo roll! It's really scary for the staff being impossible to be 2 metres away from strangers.

Inappropriatefemale · 23/03/2020 23:27

*unnecessarily I meant

Eckhart · 23/03/2020 23:32

@HavenDilemma Yes, they're very cautious. It doesn't mean it's cruel not to do all the things they insist on. Lots of current parents wouldn't be allowed to adopt. It doesn't mean they shouldn't have kids though.

ShadowOnTheSun · 23/03/2020 23:32

It's interesting to watch how this unfolds.. Back in my home country, they had pretty much the same 'lockdown': non-essential shops closed, schools shut, people working from home where possible, one exercise per day, etc.

This was two weeks ago. Now the military are being brought in, draconian fines introduced, police are given unprecedented powers, people still coming in the country are being force-quarantined (whether they're showing symptoms or not).

And it's always bloody cyclists and dog owners. Same there, same here, I see. Doctors and nurses are dropping like flies, more and more people are ill, government bulk-buying body bags over there. Medics crying and pleading on national tv for people PLEASE PLEASE PLEEASSSEEE STAY HOME for a little while and save lives. For the greater good, if you will.

Nope. Fido needs his 3xwalks a day, Timmy Tommy and Dick will lose their legs if they don't mountainbike for hours every day (and break their limbs in the process). Rotund ladies and gents, who are usually perfectly happy to sit in front of the telly with a bowl of cheetos and who's most strenuous exercise was driving their SUVs to get more cheetos for the past 10 years, suddenly all need to go for walks, as 'it's absolutely vital for their mental health'.

Fuck all those dying grannies, they're past their use by date anyway. It's spring, nice outside and our dogs need walking.

And BTW, what's with this sudden 'absolutely essential or else going mental' exercising anyway? I know some very fit people, marathon runners, gym bunnies, swimmers, bodybuilders, people whose lives are one continuous exercise. And they sometimes break their legs, and get sick or something else happens, and they become bed-bound for weeks or even months at a time. Yup, not much fun, but no, they don't become 'mental' and/or die. They just get back to exercising when they get better.

Nearlyoldenoughtowearpurple · 23/03/2020 23:33

Vets will be open but for emergencies only , there will be no vaccinations or toe nail,clipping !
Basically anything you would normally be prepared to pay to take your pet to the out of hours vets for.
Pets on medication that’s injectable will be seen
Lots of video consults for more minor stuff
Animals taken from car park, no clients allowed on premises.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 23/03/2020 23:33

@okiedokieme

Seriously??!
Yes I can see why your nails are so important in this pandemic.

FFS get a grip

ACertainSupermarket · 23/03/2020 23:34

@Inappropriatefemale
I see what you mean, so while it's not illegal to go out it is going to be illegal to go out unless under the very strict circumstances the government have said. It does seem clear to me. No it's not convenient - I am in the middle of decorating and have no curtains at my lounge window. I was going to buy them tomorrow. Now I will order them on-line and just have to wait a few days. If I need more paint I will order it online. I won't get my flooring put in for 3 months now. It won't kill me.
I suppose people will have a lot of questions as this is unlike anything in our lifetime. But people need to think - "what is the safest thing for me to do", rather than "will I be allowed to do this or that?"

WaitroseIsMySpiritualHome · 23/03/2020 23:34

I can't believe what I'm reading. I can't.

People looking at how to 'get round' the rules Shock

People who are on MN are using a forum so clearly have access to news and current affairs websites? Are you watching the news? Facebook posts? NHS Staff begging you to stay home? People in Italy lined up in gym's because the hospitals are full? Our hospitals telling us they are already feeling the strain?

If you didn't understand the PM's message, stop posting here and ask yourself this:

If I don't do this 'thing' i.e
Go to B&Q
Get an MOT
Walk the Dog nine times
Drive to my friends to drop a pint of milk off
etc

Will someone's life be at risk?

If the answer is 'no' then don't do it. That's the formula - simple as. Because every time you go out, you are increasing the risk of disease and death.

And just because it's just teeny-tiny you doing eleventy-six dog walks, what's to say there aren't another thousand teeny-tiny yous thinking exactly the same?

We all have to STOP. Nothing is so important that it's worth fucking this up for. We have already left it so late to lock down, and now people are trying to push the rules as far as they can. It's unbelievable.

NuclearWinter · 23/03/2020 23:34

You can't just make a list of a handful of blanket, life-changing rules and expect people not to have questions or to be affected in different ways. There's verbal abuse and name calling going on here, it's inexcusable. We're all stressed, we all want to obey the rules, some vital things have not been made clear, we have a requirement for clarity. To all those saying that this requirement is a direct attempt to 'get round the restrictions', you are lacking the humanity to see that whilst your lifestyle makes it easy, other lifestyles may not. To all those insulting those with questions, you are simply lacking humanity.

This really is worth repeating...

Hockeyboysmum · 23/03/2020 23:35

Not read all posts but getting angrier and more upset as they go on. I am 35 weeks pregnant and got told a week ago that my baby has potentially catastrophic changes in his brain. I have a scan tomorrow to try and see the extent of this and termination has been mentioned as a distinct possibility. This is not coronavirus related and I'm told there is nothing I could have done or not done to prevent it happening. I'd self isolate for the rest of my life if it gave my baby a chance of a life. I have a 10 year old son so I understand staying in is not fun but stop being so bloody selfish and putting everyone else at risk cos you fancy going for several walks a day or buying DIY stuff to decorate your house. I have failed to protect my unborn son but we can all help protect the rest of the country.

AnotherMurkyDay · 23/03/2020 23:35

@ACertainSupermarket

I don't envy you right now. It looks like they've been bedlam. I'd rather avoid if at all possible, at the best of times I'd rather get delivery but obviously I can see why that needs to be prioritised for the most vulnerable. It is going to be a balancing act working out what does the least harm though. Whether it's better to do smaller trips to smaller stores, or just get it done in one go.
