There's speculation that he will implement a full lockdown.

How will this differ from what we're doing now?

OP posts:
Justaboy · 23/03/2020 20:42

He could have s done something about controlling the rugby scrums in most supermarkets, that would be a very good idea!

IHateCoronavirus · 23/03/2020 20:42

Good, should have been done a week afford.

StillDumDeDumming · 23/03/2020 20:42

1 outing. I have to choose between seeing my children at a safe distance and visiting dp. Ok I’m sure we can work something out.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/03/2020 20:42

Will they put tape across playgrounds then if parks are open?

ThisTimeMine · 23/03/2020 20:43

He still hasn’t said non essential businesses to close, only shops. I’m an office worker and expected In tomorrow

Wheresthebeach · 23/03/2020 20:43

Surprised he didn’t close holiday/caravan parks. Hopefully that’s a given.

llwynogbach · 23/03/2020 20:43

It's not clear if we can take DC to school if we're keyworkers?

Ondalay · 23/03/2020 20:43

Lowdown is
You're not allowed to gather with ANYONE OUTSIDE YOUR HOME except your own household. Police will have powers to fine you (I think?).
You're allowed to:
Exercise once a day outside, go to a shop (essential only - all clothing stores etc. being shut), you're allowed to visit an elderly relative to assist them.
You are NOT allowed to gather in crowds and police can and will be enforcing this.
Playgrounds, places of worship etc., all shut down. Basically the only things left open will be grocery shops.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/03/2020 20:43

They absolutely knew they were doing this today last week.

Same pattern as France. Their behavioural scientists knew exactly who would and who wouldn't take it seriously.

But it bought them time to organise the police and background organisation etc.

ClientQueen · 23/03/2020 20:44

What about garages/car dealerships? As in taking your car for an MOT or service? (Don't shout at me) Grin I have a reason for asking

KitKat1985 · 23/03/2020 20:44

How are the police really going to monitor how many walks a day people are doing? Barely any police as it. Can't imagine them starting to count how many walks people take a day/

Also I wonder how much the fine is?

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 23/03/2020 20:44

@Ondalay is it not?

ineedaholidaynow · 23/03/2020 20:45

Does this mean schools are fully closed now?

FishingPaws · 23/03/2020 20:45

He could have s done something about controlling the rugby scrums in most supermarkets, that would be a very good idea!

My local Aldi managed that by employing a security and crowd control team - it worked beautifully.

YgritteSnow · 23/03/2020 20:45

And how are they going to know people are only going out once a day? People are going to push it and go for their crowded strolls round the parks. I'm getting up at 7 am tomorrow to walk the dog and get our family exercise in.

Froq · 23/03/2020 20:45

I’ve just seen someone on social media assuring everyone that the new measures only apply to London.

This is the kind of ignorance we’re dealing with in this country.

Nothing will change.

chomalungma · 23/03/2020 20:46

Does this mean schools are fully closed now

A good question.

ScoobyCan · 23/03/2020 20:46

He still hasn’t said non essential businesses to close, only shops. I’m an office worker and expected In tomorrow

^this

Rowgtfc72 · 23/03/2020 20:46

I'll be biking to work at 5am. So I cant get arrested for going can I? I'm a keyworker in food production. Little worried as I'll be alone and it will be dark!

youkiddingme · 23/03/2020 20:47

The exercise thing sounds really woolly to me, some people will push the boundaries of that so far it will be ridiculous. And who is going to police how many times someone has been out?

musicposy · 23/03/2020 20:47

I wish he’d been more specific over the idiots who all exercise by driving to a local beauty spot. We have one here where I live and it’s been crazy the last few days.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 20:47

I pretty much do that anyway, I’m a bit of a loner, go to work, go to supermarket then home

meditereb · 23/03/2020 20:47

Inhope people will take it seriously now ! But how will the enforce this ? One walk per say ? How would they know if i went out twice

LuluJakey1 · 23/03/2020 20:47

It's not lockdown
Errr.......I think it is!

Here it is. Sounds like a lockdown to me.

'People will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:

  • shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
  • one form of exercise a day – for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household;
  • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.

That’s all – these are the only reasons you should leave your home.

You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say No.

You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home.

You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine – and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.

If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.

To ensure compliance with the Government’s instruction to stay at home, we will immediately:

  • close all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores and other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship;
  • we will stop all gatherings of more than two people in public – excluding people you live with;
  • and we’ll stop all social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals.
  • Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.'
NomadNoMore · 23/03/2020 20:48

@StillDumDeDumming sorry to hear that. I'm in France with far stricter rules and that would still be allowed. We have to take a signed form and ID with us when we go anywhere.
