There's speculation that he will implement a full lockdown.

How will this differ from what we're doing now?

So no gatherings of more than 2 except for the 100’s shuffling through airports after 14 hour flights without any checks.

Makes a whole lot of sense.
Why can’t we shut down the airports for 3 weeks too

BeijingBikini · 23/03/2020 21:07

TBH, it would be much easier if he just shut places like airports and shops down earlier. Lots of places have been pootling on at 10% capacity, using energy and losing money, when they could have just stopped working completely.

We should have had a strict lockdown weeks ago and then shut the borders, would have saved a lot of deaths and now we could be getting back up and running again.

chomalungma · 23/03/2020 21:08

There are no written detailed guidelines on the Government website.

You would have thought there would be some - published after the announcement.

FromEden · 23/03/2020 21:09

I cant see amazon deliveries stopping. They are an essential service.

Really whining about a dad not seeing his kids for 3 weeks!! How would you like it?????

I'd hate it. But I'd do it because we HAVE to!

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 23/03/2020 21:10

You fannying about in your allotment for a couple of hours is Not. Fucking. Essential

Don't be a twat. It's growing food. Fannying around? Like fuck. It's growing food to eat and leaving more in the supermarkets for other people.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 21:11

Well at least we are not going to be shot if we venture out which is what some wished for

vegas888 · 23/03/2020 21:11

How can this be allowed when we are now imprisoned in our homes for 3 weeks.
Why Boris haven’t you cancelled all flights.
These people are now travelling on buses, coaches, in taxis etc.
Utter disgrace.

ThisTimeMine · 23/03/2020 21:11

I cant see amazon deliveries stopping. They are an essential service.

Well they shouldn’t be! I work for a third party distributing to amazon which means I will be cramped into a tiny building with others tomorrow to supply what is a non essential product.

Alsohuman · 23/03/2020 21:12

Really whining about a dad not seeing his kids for 3 weeks!! How would you like it?????

There are dads who don’t see their kids for months on end because they’re busy serving their country in Iraq or Afghanistan.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 21:12

Why are people already saying things like 'How will they know if I went for a walk twice in a day?'

Just fucking do it - all of us. That's all we need to do

This ^ - and as for toobusy's comment - I’m not stoping my kids dad seeing them!!! For 3 weeks. Not fair on him!

TOUGH! This is people's lives we are taking about. It's "not fair" to risk infecting some other poor bugger because you (understandably) miss your children.

What do you think people in the armed forces do? Come back from Iraq once a fortnight? Or people who work on oil rigs? Or in other cities/ countries from their families?

Don't be so stupidly selfish!

supercee · 23/03/2020 21:12

Don't be a twat. It's growing food. Fannying around? Like fuck. It's growing food to eat and leaving more in the supermarkets for other people.

If your allotment is in your living room then crack on.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 23/03/2020 21:13

Who are these people on flights? People returning home?

Xenia · 23/03/2020 21:14

In my view the allotment is allowed.

You can also to go work.

You can go for the daily walk (but only with family members or your house mates - some people like my sno live with 7 or 8 housemate of course and some are large families - we were 7 at one point, , run, cycle ride.

You can go to the food shop and the chemist.

You can go to do caring roles such as for family members.

You should not have friends over.

No financial help for the self employed.

There will be deaths from suicide. There will be a lot more domestic violence from men cooped up inside drinking all day. There will be fathers denied any contact with their children. It is not going to be good in lots of ways but there we are.

vegas888 · 23/03/2020 21:14

It was a flight back from Thailand

OldQueen1969 · 23/03/2020 21:14

Surely enforcement will be helped along by the sneaky little smartphones we all consider essential? Wasn't it said yesterday that one of the big networks was being compelled to hand over data or access to data? I'm pretty sure we can be tracked that way - and if your phone shows you going from home to elderly relatives address and the supermarket for example, that's legit. If there's no-one vulnerable ie in need of medical care which is easy enough to check through cross referencing with NHS info, at an address you visit, then questions can be asked I would have thought. Just speculating, but don't think it's impossible.

tryingtoprep · 23/03/2020 21:14

They're still allowing flights? So protect rural communities by telling people not to go to second homes or holiday parks - but sod the millions of city dwellers. I don't want to see rural communities devastated and understand the reasoning behind the advice not to go to a holiday home. Shame the same concern and protection isn't being applied equally across the UK. That's not rural people's fault. This is down to the government.

Then again I don't see many people wanting to fly here at the moment? We're worse hit than lots of other places and were slower to take action. Not to mention many other countries have temporarily closed their borders.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 23/03/2020 21:16

If your allotment is in your living room then crack on

Again, don't be a twat. We're allowed to go out and take exercise. That's exercise, in the middle of nowhere and fewer people around than a fucking park.

SouthWestmom · 23/03/2020 21:16

How is it going to be done in three weeks? No vaccine and no cure.

This is surreal.

vegas888 · 23/03/2020 21:16

As far as I can see working on your allotment is no different to going out for a walk, jog or bike ride. It’s outside and if you’re alone what’s the problem.
Are we going to ban people mowing their lawns, what about window cleaners too 🤔

Flaxmeadow · 23/03/2020 21:16

So sick of all the complaining.

Even seeing public sector workers and self employed people seriously saying that all the people on benefits are living in luxury compared to them

What the hell is wrong with people . Get a grip for f*cks sake

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 23/03/2020 21:16

You can leave your phone at home you know, they are not a necessity

BeijingBikini · 23/03/2020 21:18

I'm pretty sure we can be tracked that way - and if your phone shows you going from home to elderly relatives address and the supermarket for example, that's legit.

But you don't have to take your phone with you anywhere, you can leave it at home all day. I don't take it when I go for a jog, only my keys.

LochJessMonster · 23/03/2020 21:19

Gardening is in no way a form of exercise.
So you can do your one form of exercise by waking running or cycling to your allotment but staying there and gardening is not allowed.
