But long term lockdown cannot be sustained. We would traumatise a whole generation of children. tbh my kids are faring really well. Better than me.

No one says 'I'm worried about my kids not seeing their peers or getting fresh air. Endless hours on screens etc'

Was Spain as bloody-minded about being out and about before the lockdown as the Brits seem to be? there was a bit of that in the days before, but not to the same extent and it simply wasn't prolonged as much as in the UK, your govt is still farting about with "advise" rather than just taking definitive action.

Kids won't fair well if this is long term though

No one says 'I'm worried about my kids not seeing their peers or getting fresh air. Endless hours on screens etc' I see quite a lot of people worrying how their children will not spontaneously combust if they can't go to the park. And a lot of organising walks together (not sure how that helps with social distancing)
Screen time was one thing I stopped limiting once lockdown started. There are more important things to worry about tbh.

Extreme lockdown cannot be sustained long term. Society would collapse. So how long can we be expected to sustain it?

Till the outbreak is flattened out and hospitals and health services are able to cope. It can't be eradicated but slowing it down will save many lives.

Kids won't fair well if this is long term though the idea in Spain is not for it to be long term, but we have to do this to flatten the curve as a matter or urgency. Madrid's hospitals are massively under strain already. Doing nothing is not a choice any more.

Do you know what happens about looking after animals. My horses is kept in a field about 2 miles from my home and needs checked each day. I am assuming that would be seen as essential.

We can visit the vets and buy pet food and walk dogs for example, so I would assume that is allowed, visiting animals to care for them.

Loads of people are saying that. And I'm sure most parents are thinking it. Do you think there's any alternative Borkins?

It's not going to be long term @Borkins. It's to slow it down so hospitals can manage and ventilators etc be available for those who need them. You're asking questions the OP cannot possibly answer and are actually irrelevant. OP is locked down in Spain, ask her questions about that, don't expect her to justify or explain the potential outcome on children of a long term lock down situation. There are plenty of other threads you can talk about that on.

Thanks, my friends sister is in France and they are apparently not allowed to so was worrying.

Yes more important things just now
But in a generation's time, these kids will be the thing. Long term, extreme lockdown will damage them. A bit of extra screen time in a loving family for a couple of months fine.
A year of minimal fresh air, trapped in a flat with abusive family and no school. The impact is disastrous. And I believe must be considered.

Spain is not planning to lock the entire country down for a year.

Those children's lives are just as important as CV sufferers.
There has to be a balance at some point

Thank you @BirdandSparrow, very interesting.

I agree it's easy to see who is taking the piss and who is doing the right thing.
