This is the photo I have seen. They are very skimpy.

So you can still go out to buy food? How often? yes, shops are open (slightly reduced opening hours...ones near us are 10 am to 8 pm) and they are well stocked on the whole. We aren't restricted specifically how often we go but are asked to go as little as we can. Only one person is allowed per family, no children allowed unless they can't be left with anyone. Only one person in a car, unless, like before they are elderly or minors and can't be left.
We can fined for breaking these conditions.

How much education/schooling are you Fing with the children (assuming they are school age?), are tot following a timetable of lessons from the school or is it more fluid?

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 22/03/2020 21:52

Yes the numbers are frightening, thanks for answering hope this is all over soon Flowers

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 21:53

They're the Spanish legion I think.

It depends a bit on the school. Mine are primary aged in a state school. Their school has been amazing and has sent speific work to do every day, which I like because we can just od it, I don't need to find loads of stuff and have to basically plan their learning. A friend's school has just sent a load of links for them to play maths games really.

The Spanish government has organised in the last few days with the state broadcaster to start broadcasting 5 hours of educational programming from tomorrow, there will be an hour for each level, with a subject (maths, science, PE, langauges) each day. One of the ideas is to reach vulnerable children particularly. I think that's pretty impressive, they've created 300 hours of programming in 4 days!

Were you allowed out for walks and runs initially?

Cocoandclive27 · 22/03/2020 21:59

How are supermarket workers being protected? Are there reduced hours?

My relatives work in two big supermarket chains here and I'm so worried about them.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:00

How much notice did you get that the lockdown would happen? In my bit of Spain we knew schools had been shut in Madrid on about the Wednesday 8I think, can't remember). On Thursday 12th they were still denying schools would close in the morning. By Thursday night they decided to close the schools, by Saturday we were on lockdown. The state of alarm officially started to be implemented last Monday morning.

How are supermarket workers being protected? Are there reduced hours? Yes, opening hours are reduced (I think it's 10 am to 8 pm). Supermarket workers all wear masks and gloves. There are limits to how many people can be in at once and the floors are all marked with tape to show you how far away to stand. People are absolutely respecting this, at least where I am. We are encouraged to pay with card if possible to reduce contact.

You say most businesses are working from home. Is that enforced or optional?

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:04

Are the schools still open for key workers? No, they are completely shut and have been from the beginning. If not what are they doing for childcare? whatever they can.

Do you see any sign of it ending soon?

I'll ask you the most important question though...are you ok?

nevermorelenore · 22/03/2020 22:05

Someone on FB said that army photo was from a pride parade. We may be barking up the wrong tree.

TotallyAnonymousUsername · 22/03/2020 22:05

My daughter is primary age art a private school and she had school with her teachers in the mornings using Microsoft teams. It was messy at first (we only had 24 hours warning) but it's becoming more efficient.

I went to shop on Thursday (and I went the Friday before that). Now I'll try not to go out for at least a week, maybe 2 if I can manage.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:07

You say most businesses are working from home. Is that enforced or optional? It's not clear really, all non essential services are supposed to shut if they can't work from home, but there are call centres that are still open and I'm not really sure how they are getting away with it. They have mostly been forced now into spreading their staff out more and using gloves, masks, hand sanitiser etc, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are forced to work from home soon.

All shops except food shops are shut. All bars and restaurants are shut, or are supposed to be.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:08

Actually, I tell a lie, some shops like mediamarkt are allowed to open I think, I'm sure Worten is still open I think they come under essential.
Tobacconists and newsagents can open.

Are the supermarket delivery dates within a reasonable time frame?

Just concerned about how my sister who has asthma and has been told to self isolate for 12 weeks will be able to feed herself her daughter. I will obviously help where I can but I have an infant child myself and it’s hard enough trying to find my own shopping without going further a field for more essentials and therefore being out longer than necessary.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:14

Do you see any sign of it ending soon? It's going to be extended another 2 weeks (so will be 4 weeks in total, minimum)

I'll ask you the most important question though...are you ok? thanks, I am. I recognise it has to be done. It's hard. I miss going for a walk, I miss normality. It's claustrophobic. I worry about money as a self employed person. But those figures of the death toll are just rising so fast. it should have been done earlier, we should have been testing and tracing like mad from weeks ago, but where we are now, it's what we have to do.
I have felt such a tide of goodwill, of community spirit, of love. People on the whole are united. They talk a lot of "pitching in" of getting through this together. The government's slogan is "este virus lo paramos unidos" , we'll stop this virus by being united. it makes me quite emotional actually. It makes me proud to live here.
And I think that's a really important part of it.

I have recently come back from Spain, road blocks on every junction, manned by the Guardia Civil who question every driver. Not more than one person per car and you can only be using it to go to work (though nearly all workplaces are shut), or one person to get food from shop or medicines from pharmacy. Every public facility is closed, including children's play areas closed before the shutdown. Strict social distancing in airport where people must be together. All very organised and efficient. Care for the elderly is impressive - free food deliveries if you are over 65 and live alone, adjustments to pensions to make it easier to cash them, 1 Euro taxi fares for elderly who have to keep hospital appointments. The sort of gatherings and movements of people ignoring advice that we have seen here over the weekend would just not be possible. Social distancing is much better understood, but Brits just don't get it and need to wise up very fast.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:16

Are the supermarket delivery dates within a reasonable time frame? I never use online delivery but I saw that Carrefour was prioritising deliveries (not some slots, all deliveries) for vulnerable people (elderly, pregnant women, people who couldn't get out easily, sick people)

How long do you see it lasting for and do you think it is working?
