Just that. On day 9 of Europe's srictest lockdown.

How long do you see it lasting for and do you think it is working? It will be extended until mid April. it has to be voted on but it will pass. I don't know if it's working as it's too early, but there is no other choice now. We need to be testing like mad too and the government has just bought loads more quick tests but it needs more than just testing and tracing, it needs that and lockdown.

Every public facility is closed, including children's play areas closed before the shutdown. yes, all parks are closed. Most are fenced anyway here (at least where i live) so easier to physically shut, but even those that are not have signs up.
The streets really are totally deserted.

BirdandSparrow Agree with you about the communal spirit - it is fantastic and really moving. I got quite teary several times before leaving. The Spanish are wonderful people, kind, generous and loving, and look after each other. Their society reflects that.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:23

Someone on FB said that army photo was from a pride parade. Dh says it's the Spanish legion. These are the ones who built the field hopsital in 48 hours www.forotransporteprofesional.es/ejercito-monta-hospital-5-500-camas-48-horas/

Is your postal service still working?

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 22:26

Can you still buy non grocery stuff online and get it delivered?

YoursTunbridgeWells · 22/03/2020 22:27

Can you still buy petrol?

Stressheadme123 · 22/03/2020 22:31

Came to ask about online deliveries for non food items (clothes/toys to keep kids happy art supplies etc)
And if you can but petrol as above ☺️

Also if you are stuck in a flat with no garden and balcony.. are you really not allowed to step out the front door to have some air?! What would happen?
Do
We have enough people to police this in EVERY housing estate?

disconnecteddrifter · 22/03/2020 22:34

I'm really worried about seeing my children. Their dad has them 40% of the time. Can I still see them?

kleew1 · 22/03/2020 22:36

If you are in a block of 5 flats with a backdoor garden would you be able to use it?

H1ghC0r0na · 22/03/2020 22:39

If you are not permitted to have a physical GP appointment and people have different ailments (wound care, gastro issues, ongoing conditions etc), who do they ring?

Since everyone is now banned from doing exercise outside the house... have you seen an increase in people developing blood clots or pneumonia etc or is there a government initiative to reduce that risk?

Rosehip10 · 22/03/2020 22:46

Is the situation in the UK being reported in Spain? Ignoring of social distancing etc?

Nameisthegame · 22/03/2020 22:54

Nice to see you doing a ama, I started a FB page art of lockdown to keep busy. We have military here checking to see that the restaurants are shut in the main town but we have police patrols in the more residential areas.

Nameisthegame · 22/03/2020 22:54

Do you have the 8’oclock every night too?

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 22:56

Yeah, they don't have such a pretty uniform, do they?

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 22:57

Is your postal service still working? Yes, but my very small village office is closed because of this and I'd have to go to the neighbouring larger village if I needed the PO.

OP posts:
Nameisthegame · 22/03/2020 22:58

@Oakmaiden no but a lot of them are actually really young and fit probably early twenties.

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 23:04

I'm not allowed to admire young and fit men in their early twenties. It si all sorts of wrong. (My eldest son is 22.)

I can admire the pretty uniforms though....

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 23:04

Can you still buy non grocery stuff online and get it delivered? at the moment, yes. But I think this may change.
Can you still buy petrol? Yes, it’s deemed essential. Petrol stations are open but also using distancing. Our local one has closed access to the shop. It’s all still available but they are using the night window and dispatch box.
Also if you are stuck in a flat with no garden and balcony.. are you really not allowed to step out the front door to have some air?! What would happen? You can stand at the front door, walk to the bins etc but not go out for exercise or a stroll.
We have enough people to police this in EVERY housing estate? Police are patrolling and using drones. Most people are complying and there is massive social pressure to comply and not be THAT person.
I'm really worried about seeing my children. Their dad has them 40% of the time. Can I still see them? I read yesterday that shared custody arrangements are unaffected.
If you are in a block of 5 flats with a backdoor garden would you be able to use it? If it was a communal garden, no. Lots of blocks of flats have rooftops (azoteas) where people hang washing, they are the same square footage as the building so can be quite big. We are not supposed to hang around on them if they are communal.

It all sounds so efficient. I almost wish I was in Spain right now. The measures in the U.K. feel very half hearted and no one seems to be complying.

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 23:06

Do you have the 8’oclock every night too? yes, and I'm in village with mostly houses rather than flats.
We had call and response "hola don pepito, hola don jose" singing on father's day which I thought was so lovely. Got all teary then too.

Oakmaiden · 22/03/2020 23:08

Thank you @BirdandSparrow

BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 23:10

If you are not permitted to have a physical GP appointment and people have different ailments (wound care, gastro issues, ongoing conditions etc), who do they ring? I think some people can still go to the doctor for things like that, but if you think for instance you have CV or you need to see a doctor for something else, the whole idea is to ring first and reduce the number of people physically in the same space at the doctor. There is a special hotline for any medical needs.

Since everyone is now banned from doing exercise outside the house... have you seen an increase in people developing blood clots or pneumonia etc or is there a government initiative to reduce that risk? I think it's a bit early to say? i haven't personally heard anything about that.
There is an understanding that it's a problem with regards to domestic violence and there have been various things I've read in the last day or two about special plans and so on for gender based violence. Social service were recognised the other day as an essential need.

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 22/03/2020 23:14

The measures in the U.K. feel very half hearted and no one seems to be complying. it is very draconian and I must say the local police updates on the numbers of people they've told off/fined every day do freak me out a bit. But, there is a calmness in knowing what the deal is and what you are being asked to do in very clear terms.

It is a work in progress though. I read an interesting article by a Spanish lawyer about how the initial decree was being tweaked gradually as things came to light, like hairdressers were originally exempt as they were seen as important for old people, but that was then changed.

Are you allowed to go to the airport to leave the country? Are flights even running?
