Bastards are still going for herd immunity

This is why they are isolating those pockets of vulnerable people, but leaving everything else running pretty much as is.

Fuckers are going to kill hundreds of thousands of us.

OP posts:
Cinammoncake · 22/03/2020 17:24

Everything else is not running as it is because all bars restaurants gyms schools etc have closed

sociallydistained · 22/03/2020 17:24

Seems to be that way so far :(

Jojo19834 · 22/03/2020 17:27

How sure are we the other way is the best way? How the hell do we keep the economy going? Think about everything that stops if we all stop? If all the deaths are in the high risk group, why not protect them? Just wondering as no one knows what’s best. We can also take this into our own hands and self isolate

Rainbowunicat · 22/03/2020 17:31

Nothing is running as normal! Where do you live that this is happening? Schools are closed, pubs, cafes, restaurants etc are closed. People are self isolating for 2 weeks for something as simple as a cough. We're being told to stay 2 metres apart from other people. I'm shocked you can't see how much has changed.

Tulipstulips · 22/03/2020 17:31

I hate Boris as much as the next mumsnetter but he is caught in a cleft stick. If the economy completely tanks because we lock down totally for months, which is what we’d have to do to totally beat this, the resultant upheaval would cause so much damage. We’re already heading for a world wide recession that will make the crash of 1929 look like a walk in the park. Many many more people will die, ultimately, because of a massive global recession than will die directly of Covid19. The only reasons he’s not just just letting it burn through the population is because public opinion would crucify him, and because there’s no point sacrificing our population for the economy if no other countries are doing it.

It’s unpalatable but true, and I say this as someone with underlying health conditions, with a parent and inlaws with underlying health conditions, who doesn’t want to die.

Marieo · 22/03/2020 17:33

People can't be trusted, there have been major closures, advice is readily available ever, the sad fact is that as a country a portion of it is so extremely selfish that they need measures to forcibally stay home and do fuck all. How would we enforce lockdown anyway? Do you think we have the capacity?

SubjectMatterExpert · 22/03/2020 17:34

Yes, exactly this. He is just disguising it now, because of the back lash

PersonaNonGarter · 22/03/2020 17:36

OP, you are wrong. Everything has completely changed and that is why so many people are losing their jobs and/or having their lives turned upside down.

LaureBerthaud · 22/03/2020 17:37

So are we supposed to get it, hopefully have mild symptoms (or none at all) and then develop immunity? Why close the schools then?

Tulipstulips · 22/03/2020 17:38

How would we enforce lockdown anyway? Do you think we have the capacity?

This is how they’re doing it in Italy now. Posters laughed at me earlier in the week when I suggested we’d eventually need the army to step in. But it’s coming, especially if idiots continue to flout the guidance.

Bastards are still going for herd immunity
Holowiwi · 22/03/2020 17:38

There is nothing else that can be done. All they can do is slow the spread so that it doesn't overwhelm the NHS but as this is a world wide pandemic it cannot be contained. China who apprently 'contained' the virus are already reporting new cases again. And they always lie about their numbers.

You can't keep shutting everything down for a year.

Babyg1995 · 22/03/2020 17:38

You are wrong nothing is running as normal whatsoever Confused

Laniakea · 22/03/2020 17:39

leaving everything else running pretty much as is

huh?

Where?

LaurieFairyCake · 22/03/2020 17:40

THE SCHOOLS ARENT CLOSED

My dh's school has HALF the kids (secondary academy London) because of the amount of key workers children

All teachers working through Easter/May half term doing 'childcare' and not teaching curriculum

They also think that it's going to be weekends too

Confuzzled123 · 22/03/2020 17:41

I’m pretty left wing but I think Boris is handling this well. He’s in a difficult position.

Marieo · 22/03/2020 17:41

@Tulipstulips yes I know how ideally it would work, being realistic with our numbers of active servicemen and women, and the fact that many are already earmarked to provide other functions essential for the effort; where are we going to find them? The reserves can help, not massive numbers though, and you could recall people who have reserve liability, that should be interesting. Essentially we should be doing it, I don't think we can.

BMW6 · 22/03/2020 17:48

Lockdown isn't working in Italy or France either, judging by the number of people fined or arrested there.

And - I am certainly no fan of Johnson, but he is the mouthpiece for the decisions taken by COBRA. He is just the messenger.

Loly365 · 22/03/2020 17:56

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301397 petition for Lockdown

Bouledeneige · 22/03/2020 17:56

It's not. They are scaling in the measures as they need to on the back of scientific advice - they have closed a lot of businesses, shielded the most vulnerable population for 3 months and recognising that being outdoors is good for physical and mental health urging social distancing but with stark warnings. It's much more sophisticated than you're saying.

HowIrresponsible · 22/03/2020 17:59

He would be better off letting it rip through the population to save his precious economy rather than closing most things.

London is empty. Everything is closed.

Things are not running as normal

Batshittery · 22/03/2020 18:06

What a load of rubbish. Nothing is running as it was. Instead of posting such sensationalism, why not return and explain what you mean?

Cam77 · 22/03/2020 18:14

China who apprently 'contained' the virus are already reporting new cases again.
No they aren’t. The odd few new cases popping up in China are virtually all from overseas Chinese returning to China - where they face two weeks quarantine.

Cam77 · 22/03/2020 18:18

“Co-founder Stephen Hsu, who Mr Cummings praised and has appeared with at No10, said it would only be used to eliminate embryos with a “mental disability”. But Mr Hsu accepted people may in future select ‘designer’ intelligent babies, telling New Scientist:“I think people are going to demand that. If we don’t do it, some other company will.”
On his blog, Mr Cummings quoted research saying genes have a “substantial influence” on people’s IQ, and said genomic tests - cheaper all the time - can now predict people’s heights “within a few cm”.
He focused mainly on physical health, saying the “useful predictions” could avoid embryos developing diabetes, breast or prostate cancer in later life. But he added: “We will also be able to make predictions about outliers in cognitive abilities (the high and low ends).”
He warned against relying on ‘early years’ programmes like Sure Start, which he said was based on flawed evidence, to improve children’s lives. Instead he urged politicians to make policy decisions “on the basis of rational thinking and good science.””

Plenty more like that from Dominic Cummings the eugenicist. What a man to have advising your PM at such a time.

AdoreTheBeach · 22/03/2020 18:19

Not sure where you live OP but I’m in Surrey. Most businesses are closed as are shops, pubs, clubs, gyms etc. Yes food stores are open so people can get food. Yes, there were photos of queues of key workers waiting to get into local food stores for their dedicated time. However, this isn’t normal.

As another poster above stated Boris is the messenger from COBRA and following advice

NiteFlights · 22/03/2020 18:24

I thought it would be a cold day in hell before I’d say this but I don’t think the govt are doing such a bad job. They’re in an unprecedented position and this situation is going to be horrible no matter what happens.

I also think people have to take personal responsibility where they can, this is different for people in different circs of course, but the PM has clearly told us what to do. If people can’t bear not to socialise, go shopping, etc when they could avoid it then I don’t blame the govt for that.
