Yes

OP posts:
LittleRootie · 22/03/2020 22:28

No.

It will not be possible to enforce and will probably lead to an explosion in anti-social behaviour and criminality. A proper information campaign would be more effective.

ssd · 22/03/2020 22:29

Yes. I'd feel safer with it.

Janus · 22/03/2020 22:29

Yes. Because my stupid dad aged 79 in 2 weeks is still waltzing around because he lives ‘in the country’ so it won’t happen to him, and my mum.
So angry, get this country locked down now.

whatdayisitandotherquestions · 22/03/2020 22:30

Yes.

BluSky5 · 22/03/2020 22:31

Yes

StormyClouds · 22/03/2020 22:31

@Stellaris22

Not being provocative at all. I absolutely accept that NHS workers are doing a fantastic job, but at the end of the day, it is a career that people have individually chosen to follow. They were (or should have been) well aware of what is involved in working as a doctor or nurse.

I think the deification of NHS staff is unfair when we have people in many other vital roles from teachers to binmen who get nowhere near the same recognition or celebration.

Doggyperson · 22/03/2020 22:34

@littlerootie If they bring In the army and issue on the spot fines for anyone ignoring the lockdown it is possible. People are ignoring all the information guidelines.

I was In spain when it happened and I didn't dare go out other than the supermarket or the police would have you!

Leeah · 22/03/2020 22:34

Yes, I think we’ve left it too late already! Should have locked down the same time as Italy to give us those weeks as a head start

LittleRootie · 22/03/2020 22:42

If they bring In the army and issue on the spot fines for anyone ignoring the lockdown it is possible. People are ignoring all the information guidelines.

They have not got the numbers of forces/police to carry it out (thank god). People have not been properly informed of the guidance, it has been put out in an unforgiveably wishywashy way. A full-on advertising campaign to make clear the threat to life and the basic principles of protection is needed.

Also, once people start to die in greater numbers it will finally become real to people Sad. At the moment most people don't even know anyone who's caught it, let alone been seriously ill or died so they can't comprehend the danger.

Thespiceisright · 22/03/2020 22:43

No.

I’ve actually been self isolating for two weeks, I also pulled my dc out of school two weeks ago. I follow the rules, kids only go in back garden. I dont take them to the shops.

I shouldn’t have to lose my freedom because other idiots cannot follow the rules.

We shouldn’t be so quick to signing our freedom away and calling for martial law.

CV has been circulating for weeks. The damage has been done.

The damage to the economy is going to be staggering and much longer lasting than this virus.

StormyClouds · 22/03/2020 22:44

I have to say I am slightly disturbed by the force with which some people are calling for the imposition of martial law and gross infringements of civil liberties.

Might we have some Russian or Chinese assets in our midst on this thread?

SomethingOnce · 22/03/2020 22:50

Not a Russian or Chinese asset, but I’m still waiting for a cheque from some right-wing American evangelicals or other. Allegedly.

Voice0fReason · 22/03/2020 23:03

Yes - because of all the people who have said no.

CrocodileFondue · 22/03/2020 23:05

Yes. Should have been done a few weeks ago tbh.

Too many fucking morons happily spreading the virus, are they going to explain to my toddler why mummy is dead? Angry

Thripp · 22/03/2020 23:06

No, no, no, no. People will die if there is complete lockdown, and not of Covid.

Snowy111 · 22/03/2020 23:06

Yes. Should have been today if not earlier

Thripp · 22/03/2020 23:07

Where are all these people who are out and about? I live in one of the most touristy cities on the planet. It's like a ghost town. I don't know a single person who's going out...

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 23:10

I have to say I am slightly disturbed by the force with which some people are calling for the imposition of martial law and gross infringements of civil liberties.

Gosh I'm glad others have these concerns too.

We did the same and I feel the same about my freedom now. The people calling for lockdown are most likely the people who laughed at those of us who took this seriously 2 weeks ago and did the right thing back then.

CrocodileFondue · 22/03/2020 23:14

We went for a drive today for a change of scenery after being stuck inside for a week, there were people everywhere!
It was like a bank holiday, walking in big groups by the river, sitting outside the pub with pints of beer (not sure how that was allowed but was definitely happening) and strolling around with ice creams without a care in the world. Unbelievable.

LadyGAgain · 22/03/2020 23:16

Yes.

CrocodileFondue · 22/03/2020 23:17

I never thought I'd want a lockdown but so many people are proving themselves incapable of doing the right thing so I believe it's necessary at this point.

My own MIL went on public transport to a large city to do random wandering about shops with friends, she is in her 80's. DH is furious!

LadyGAgain · 22/03/2020 23:18

And no, I'm not calling for lockdown because I have been remiss. We have been very compliant. Don't patronise me.

Parker231 · 22/03/2020 23:18

It can be enforced by the police and army - other countries are doing it.

jenkel · 22/03/2020 23:20

Very very last resort

Lockdown will mean increased suicide, mental health issues, domestic abuse, people dying alone at home. Carers won’t be able to visit elderly, midwives won’t be able to visit new babies at home. The vulnerable list will grow and they will become more vulnerable.

What we need to to do is a Test test test, see who is potentially immune.

And for people to be sensible,

MrsSnitchnose · 22/03/2020 23:21

Another one concerned with the eagerness to give away all our civil liberties by calling for Martial Law. So glad I'm not the only one. I'm far more terrified of giving any government complete control over my life than I ever will be of any virus
