Whilst horrible and heartbreaking, those numbers do suggest we are escalating slower than Italy, don't they?

Unless they haven't released the full numbers.
Italy's numbers started exploding around this time.

I hope so but I think realistically it's too early to say.

It definitely feels more manageable. Does anyone have the chart comparing numbers?

I'd wait til we get the government figures...they don't seem to have been updated yet.

But am keeping everything crossed.

Part of coping is having a winge on here.... Letting off steam.

The only glimmer of hope is that we may have shielded the more vulnerable earlier than in Italy or Spain .

I was feeling a bit reassured by the lower numbers but then I remembered that they always seem to drop at the weekend. Is that because they do less testing?

MrsHoho that’s even worse. I assume cancelled trains are part of it. But no idea if all essential. Poor people crammed in if they are essential.

Is it completely but completely silly to go to my very local hairdressers salon on Thu?
I know it probably sound crazy to go but they are still open, not so busy, usually one or two customers..
I need my highlights done as SO bad.. I got lung disease and would have to take my 8 yrs with me.
I would wear a proper mask but still.
Tell me I’m crazy..
Pls honest opinion..

@imerc your situation sounds really difficult I have no suggestions other than to contact their landlord. Keep phoning environmental health every day several times a day

Husbands says it’s ok if having mask as they are never so busy..and very local, about half mile walk..

Unless I read the chart wrong.

Matt Hancock has just confirmed they are only testing cases in ICU. German stats indicate 5.5% of cases are hospitalised and 2% of cases reach ICU, so times today’s numbers by 50 and you might get something approximating real numbers.

I woudnt be going to the hairdresser, no.

14 days ago Italy were on 463 deaths in total. Today the UK are at 335. Two days ago we were both on the 233 number that was a direct comparison.

So whilst the number is still terrible, I hope to whoever it is up there, that we can somehow stem the flow quicker than Italy did as we are now not following the exact same trajectory
