Has anyone noticed in their area that people are panic buying things OTHER than food? Like regular things such as clothes?! Perhaps it's just my area but crikey!

PowerslidePanda · 21/03/2020 20:52

Bin bags here, weirdly!

fannyanney · 21/03/2020 20:54

I've heard that booze and compost are being panic bought now. What is the world coming to!

Devaki · 21/03/2020 20:54

Clothes? How strange, it’s not like anyone’s going anywhere to need new clothes.

Mrsjayy · 21/03/2020 20:55

Crisps here we are all going to emerge in june looking a bit "carby"

MusicToMyEars800 · 21/03/2020 20:56

Oh and Bananas Confused

starrynight19 · 21/03/2020 20:57

It’s weird. Hardly any alcohol in my local Tesco’s today or pet food of any kind.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 21/03/2020 20:57

Marmite here. I've just managed to find one jar of the Tesco's own brand sort. Weird.

MusicToMyEars800 · 21/03/2020 20:58

Oh maybe it didnt 🤦‍♀️😳

Mrsjayy · 21/03/2020 20:59

I wonder if folk are burning throwing away clothes ?

RaininSummer · 21/03/2020 20:59

It is the right time of year for needing compost though. I expect people are getting it so they can crack on with planting up snd not have to go out again for it. I bought 3 bags but I do that every spring as I plant tomatoes.

MusicToMyEars800 · 21/03/2020 21:00

But as you can see soo many shelves stripped bare even alcohol, crisps, biscuits, teabags, frozen chicken breasts even 😠 Nappies, baby milk it just doesn’t stop I can’t get my head around what madness goes through other people’s minds when they go mad on buying it.... must be “well f**k all of your families as long as we’re ok Hmm

Mysocalledlifexx · 21/03/2020 21:01

Ive ONLY been buying baby clothes in the next 2 sizes as babies grow of things fast just incase online shopping shuts down too, but not for myself or my other children as when this is over they will need them then.
I have noticed toothpaste is hard to get now think its hard to get anything, people are shopping like its christmas.

TickTockTickTockT · 21/03/2020 21:01

I saw a lady buy 9 loaves of bread Confused

Worriedaboutundiagnosed · 21/03/2020 21:01

It may not be that people are panic buying those random things. The lady in the supermarket explained to me that they are prioritizing the goods that were in high demand (toilet roll, canned food, pasta, soap etc) and that there is therefore no space on the lorries for other non-essential items. Makes sense tbh.

TickTockTickTockT · 21/03/2020 21:01

No mop buckets left in my area Grin

strawberrylipgloss · 21/03/2020 21:02

I don't know about clothes but I noticed booze and sanitary protection running very low.
Strangely there's always cheese in my local shops whether big or small.

Lovemusic33 · 21/03/2020 21:03

Had my food delivery today and things that were missing were....

Cat food
Squash (getting desperate for this as dd will not drink plain water)
Chocolate orange 😢
Printer paper (need for school work)
Spaghetti hoops with sausages
My nice seeded bread
Bleach

I did get toilet roll and basic own brand bread (wanted hovis)

I’m not going to moan too much as it was delivered to my door and we will make do with what we have. Maybe slightly upset that we have no chocolate. I might order some chocolate online, maybe hotel chocolate 🤣

Lovemusic33 · 21/03/2020 21:04

I noticed there was plenty of cheese, I guess we have quite a lot of local cheese suppliers?

JaceLancs · 21/03/2020 21:04

Cat litter is only thing we couldn’t get
Store assistant (Aldi and Lidl) said it’s not because of panic buying but that it had not been included in deliveries to prioritise food so on that basis will try pet shop tomorrow

CatAnnoyance · 21/03/2020 21:04

Vitamins here. Can not find any child vitamins for love nor money. The shelves were bare! These hoarders must be planning on just feeding their kids vits when all the "food runs out". Hmm

noblegiraffe · 21/03/2020 21:05

People don’t know what to buy.

Last week there was no pasta or tinned tomatoes, this week there was loads. This week there was no beer or wine.

The only constant so far has been soap and toilet roll.
