Panic buying - everything

Has anyone noticed in their area that people are panic buying things OTHER than food? Like regular things such as clothes?! Perhaps it's just my area but crikey!

Its changed from panic buying to mass hoarding now. Well I have decided to no longer follow advice and shop sensibly because I havent been able to get meat, pasta or chicken for 1 week so I am going to join the masses and load my trolley up and hoard. Doing "the right thing" means going without.
I wish one big supermarket could grow a pair and get rid of their trolleys and allow 1 basket per person per day. The other supermarkets would soon follow.
Harsh I know but some people are so greedy snd selfish I think this is the only wsy to guarantee fairness for everybody

Legoandloldolls · 21/03/2020 21:06

I would normally buy 8 loaves of bread. We are a family of 6.

I'm.too scared to buy more than a small trolley load at a time inncase I get pitchforked.

I dont get why anyone is buying clothes that is insane. I'm not going anywhere. Only to Tesco Express ( almost daily pretending to shop to only keep a hamster alive )

My kids ate going to live in pants and vests. I'm living in jugging bottoms. I'm normally very smart on the school run but to fuck with that now. Jogging bottoms, pjs all day. Who cares?

DareToEatAPeach · 21/03/2020 21:09

Compost makes sense to me.

I've stocked up on springtime garden stuff because I'm aware that my garden is likely to be a key source of entertainment and solace over the next few weeks/months.

It was all stuff on my shopping list for March/April anyway but I've cracked on got it now.

Mark my words - seed potatoes, onions and other veggie starters for allotments will be flying off the shelves soon enough so don't delay if you were planning on growing your own this year.

Meanwhile, booze and Easter eggs are all my local co-op has left in the shelves so there isn't yet a panicked market for them Grin

viccat · 21/03/2020 21:09

A lot of these things mentioned are kind of more important than food as there aren’t many alternatives. Bin bags, cat litter, san pro etc.

I couldn’t get my favourite hand cream this week. Not surprising of course now everyone has started washing their hands.

dorapicasso · 21/03/2020 21:10

I went to a small local supermarket today.

No cleaning products, meat, veg, fruit, eggs, pasta, tinned goods, alcohol

Very little of everything else. Except cheese. Lots of cheese.

Very weird.

Flixsfoilball · 21/03/2020 21:13

Vitamins here. Can not find any child vitamins for love nor money. The shelves were bare! These hoarders must be planning on just feeding their kids vits when all the "food runs out".

Probably a last ditch attempt at building people's health

PotholeParadise · 21/03/2020 21:13

Does one of those pictures show that people have panic-bought deodorant?

In search of the Lynx effect, presumably?

Fatted · 21/03/2020 21:15

I've thought about buying a load of clothes. Purely because I'm worried the shops will still be closed when the hot weather comes. I've got fat and have no summer clothes that fit. DS1 also grows like a weed and will probably need new shoes and clothes soon.

Lots of places are having big sales and discounts online to make up for lost sales in shops. I am taking advantage of this to get clothes. It's stuff I would have bought anyway, but in May rather than now.

Whiteswansong · 21/03/2020 21:20

I ageee with previous poster they are prioritizing basic products at the moment.

Seven8nine · 21/03/2020 21:24

@Lovemusic33 our chocolate orange arrived but no milk, eggs & potatoes ... will happily swap!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 21/03/2020 21:29

Wondering what happens when every realises that the Middle East refinery workers are going to start dropping like flies. Russia and Saudi might be flooding the market right now, but those pipelines are going to dry up soon.

gigi556 · 21/03/2020 21:29

I've bought 3 cheap summer dresses a couple of pairs of shorts and a couple of T-shirt's for DD and a pair of plimsolls in next size up in case she has a sudden foot growth. she's gone up a size over the winter and if all the clothes shops close she won't have anything to wear when warmer weather arrives. She can go naked at home (5yrs old) but we'll need to take her out for walks to stave off insanity so she will need some clothes that fit.

They anticipate the peak of this thing hitting around June time so lighter weight clothes will be needed.

I have enough sanitary products for this week, which means if current supplies stay like they are I'll have to make some for next month, so have ordered some plastic snaps to arrive tomorrow. I have enough fabric in my craft cupboard but no snaps left.

Lovemusic33 · 21/03/2020 21:50

Freezers and laptops are apparently getting harder to buy, people are buying laptops for home schooling and obviously a extra freezer is handy.

rbmilliner · 21/03/2020 21:50

can't get pasta, bread, milk till yesterday but more importantly flour as want to make a cake for dh 50th - i know small scale in the grand scheme of things.
There seems to be an unexplainable amount of sugar in all our shops even the little ones!

MusicToMyEars800 · 21/03/2020 21:53

Pothole it’s basically all personal hygiene products Hmm like people think if they run out do shower gel etc during this it will be the end of the world Hmm there was no milk etc not even biscuits Confused it’s madness to me.. I understand buying a few extra essentials but this is beyond a few...

Rosebel · 21/03/2020 21:54

So it appears no-one is listening to the government. Again and again we've been told to stop panic buying. Again and again we've been told to stop meeting up in groups. Yet no one listens and then complains the government aren't doing anything. Are we just generally thick as a country?

JustGoFurther · 21/03/2020 21:55

Coca Cola here 🤷‍♀️

thenettyprofessor · 21/03/2020 21:57

yes school uniform, I went to buy some last week and there was none in stock for the age and colour i needed. 8 year old grey skirts i needed.
Looking for positives she wont be needing them now and saved me the money

EggysMom · 21/03/2020 21:57

I still don't understand panic-buying eggs ...

I've noticed a trend in our local supermarket. Almost completely out of any kind of meat - except bacon, and today, pork chops and bacon. Plenty of bacon around. As I like bacon butties, this is not an issue. But it is a curiosity.

MusicToMyEars800 · 21/03/2020 21:58

Rose people are idiots... not all people obviously just some!
