They've got to make the money available otherwise the country will completely collapse financially and will take many decades to recover.

PleaseStopCrying · 20/03/2020 17:25

Anyone else predicting Rishi Sunak PM in the future?

I'll be very suprised if he doesn't become PM, he is everything that BJ is not.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 17:25

I need the list of detail hope they put it up quickly

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 17:26

So did boris forget shops or Rishi make a future announcement early by mistake.

Needs to clarify or panic buying will be worse tommrow.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 20/03/2020 17:26

I couldn't follow the help for self employed that was announced. It was very brief. I am concerned about my childminder going out of business before it all goes back to normal.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 20/03/2020 17:26

Do low paid people with several jobs get 80% wages paid by gov and 20% by employer?

Many will just lay people off and avoid paying the 20% if the jobs are quite unskilled.

Or am I missing something?

EightNineTen · 20/03/2020 17:26

Self employed can claim Universal Credit at £94 pw (SSP rate) with no income bar.

kirinm · 20/03/2020 17:26

Sounds like the 'help' for the self employed is benefits of £94 a week.

IronNeonClasp · 20/03/2020 17:27

Thank God they are finally shutting up shop.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 20/03/2020 17:28

Does the no income bar mean they can earn on top of the £94 a week? She is open for key workers but that wont even pay the bills for her. I have said I will continue paying as much as I can (depending on me getting paid!) as it is all budgeted for anyway.

EducatingArti · 20/03/2020 17:28

Boris does not get the issue of avoiding unneccessary contact with friends and family does he?

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 17:29

He couldn’t help himself! Just say no I’m not visiting

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 17:29

'Kate McCann - Important note - have asked Number 10 and shops WILL NOT be closing. The PM listed a number of outlets which will including gyms, bars, restaurants etc. Shops will not be included. The Chancellor made a slip there.'

Ironically self employed people are quite pro tory yet not given a great lot.

Mummiepig · 20/03/2020 17:29

When are non essential shops due to close? Is it clear

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 20/03/2020 17:29

Someone tell Boris he is not visiting his mum.

I'm not visiting mine on his advice Confused

EightNineTen · 20/03/2020 17:30

Right now, as a self employed person whose business disappeared overnight, £94 a week is better than the big fat £0 I currently have. Although I never had a high income, so can cope with that and will be able to eke my savings out for longer.

Don't see how it will help if a self employed person was earning £300 or £500 a week or whatever!

BarbedBloom · 20/03/2020 17:31

I still don't know how I will pay my rent. My husband's work has just been closed from tonight. 80% of his wages won't cover our bills and 30% LHA won't come near our rents here. Plus I think we need to wait 5 weeks for first payment. Fuck.

Quartz2208 · 20/03/2020 17:32

@Lifesavesocialdistance and @ofwarren the problem with red tops isnt the information that they send out is wrong because of course it cant be. Its that they edit the headlines in such a way that it sounds far more sensational and worse that the actual content inside. Journalists are literally taught how to do it. More clicks and reads

They have always been this way. Although maybe the Sun is reading because they are quite as bad at the moment.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 17:32

Same - i have self employed members of my family who will be relying on the public sector 80% or full pay of their lesser paid spouse plus the £94.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 20/03/2020 17:33

Barbed could one of you go and get a job in one of the supermarkets who are crying out for people at the moment. Obviously not if you are high risk or self isolating due to symptoms etc....

LuxLFC · 20/03/2020 17:33

"Wash your hands, wash your hands"
how come they never mention not touching your face?!

EightNineTen · 20/03/2020 17:33

I think that the financial measures announced today have made me fully realise what a mess this all is. It's going to go on for months. I think we can forget it being turned around after three. More like five before anything good starts to happen.

MarshaBradyo · 20/03/2020 17:34

He’s doing better today.

Less overwhelmed

BarbedBloom · 20/03/2020 17:35

I have to self isolate for 12 weeks. I am very high risk. My husband possibly could but then he could well bring it back with him. Can't isolate from him in the house really being an open plan 1 bed and nowhere else for him to go

danni0509 · 20/03/2020 17:35

They look confused about the shops Grin
