Hi all, thanks for the new thread and @ofwarren the updates are greatly appreciated. The numbers are really terrifying, one hospital full already and people are still out and about!!

where are these deaths coming from if the serious/critical number has remained at 20 for days!? Yes I wondered this too, are they testing after they died?!

I'm really cross about weatherspoons refusing to close! I really hope it backfires on them.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 16:05

That is being planned - some hospitals might also use diifferent hotels for the non infectous people who need residential care but don't yet have a place

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 16:06

We dont get new icu numbers - we got the 20 number once as a throwaway remark nothing since.

Spain tells us their figures reguarly.

defthand · 20/03/2020 16:09

That worldometers site is NOT reliable for serious/ICU cases. It doesn’t keep up, and many governments don’t release that data at all. Please don’t rely on it.

Sky News Breaking - 'Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow has declared a “critical incident” due to a surge in patients with covid-19.'

Number12 · 20/03/2020 16:12

Well if they published the numbers of patients in IC then maybe it would hit home with the public how bad this is. I feel so terribly worried about those in need of cancer treatments, operations postponed... People will die because they couldnt access the hospital because of covid. People will not find out they cancer until its too late became of the delay due to covid. Heart attacks, infections the list is endless. And Boris stood there at the start and told us the NHS could cope!

Does anyone know if private hospitals will be stepping up? Will they even great private patients with covid?

Cheeseismylife · 20/03/2020 16:13

That article about no more beds in a London hospital is truly terrifying.
If they are already out of beds now and in 2 weeks we will almost certainly have ten times as many cases, the situation doesn't bear thinking about.
I am So scared for my parents. My dad is in a risk group and is being totally pig headed and continues to work. I've told him not to. He just will. Not. Listen.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 20/03/2020 16:14

I’m up, feeling rough with bouts of coughing, which is testing my pelvic floors!

Shocked at people in FB arguing about going out - I despair, interesting to see the increase in West Mids. Birmingham, have to wonder if anything to do with Crufts. Next week we will probably see an increase in Liverpool after the Spanish influx.

DH needs to go and get veg and fruit, he hasn’t been out at all, he seems well, working from home. Has managed to pay wages this week, but no one is available on Gov or HMRC phone numbers to ask if there is some help with PAYE, which will help.

He’s now going through the bills to arrange payment to the small business he uses - he’s a good man.

Calmonthesurfacebut · 20/03/2020 16:15

I have never hated anyone more than the Wetherspoons idiot!

Number12 · 20/03/2020 16:16

The video clips of patients in IC struggling to breathe is horrendous. Those poor people.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 16:17

We should start getting reports of people in Liverpool feeling ill at home etc first before hospitalisations and then deaths happen.

So today the government have quietly banned the parallel export of 82 drugs from the UK as 'they are needed for uk patients'.

This follows on from bans in Feb and a ban last week. They are as follows:

25 February 2020
Three medicines have been added to the list of medicines that cannot be parallel exported from the UK:
Lopinavir + Ritonavir, Chloroquine phosphate and Azathioprine. The date of restriction is 00:00am at the start of 26 February 2020.

13 March 2020
Hydroxychloroquine has been added to the list of medicines that cannot be parallel exported from the UK. The date of restriction is 00:00am at the start of 14 March 2020.

20 March 2020
82 medicines have been added to the list of medicines that cannot be parallel exported from the UK. The date of restriction is 00:00am at the start of 21 March 2020.

The medicines added to the list are: Accusol 35, Albumin, Alfentanil, Amikacin, Amiodarone, Amoxicillin, Anidulafungin, Argipressin, Atracurium, Calcium, Caspofungin, Ceftazidime, Ceftriaxone, Cefuroxime, Cisatracurium, Clarithromycin, Clonidine, Co-amoxiclav, Cyclizine, Dalteparin, Dexmedetomidine, Dobutamine, Enoxaparin, Epoprostenol, Erythromycin, Esmolol, Esomeprazole, Fentanyl, Flucloxacillin, Furosemide, Plasma-Lyte, Gentamicin, Glyceryl trinitrate, Granisetron, Heparin sodium, Hydrocortisone, Hemolactol, Hemosol B0, Insulin, Ketamine, Lansoprazole, Levofloxacin, Linezolid, Lorazepam, Lactasol, Magnesium, Meropenem, Metoclopramide, Micafungin, Midazolam, Milrinone, Morphine, Morphine sulfate, Monosul, Noradrenaline, Omeprazole, Ondansetron, Ondansetron, Oxycodone, Pantoprazole, Paracetamol, Piperacillin, Potassium chloride, Prednisolone, Propofol, Prismasol 4, PrismOcal B22, Prismocitrate 18/0, Potassium chloride, Ranitidine, Remifentanil, Rifampicin, Rocuronium, Sodium chloride, Sodium dihydrogen phosphate, Sodium lactate, Suxamethonium, Teicoplanin, Terlipressin, Tinzaparin, Vancomycin and Voriconazole.

And thats one hell of a list. Are we worried about shortages? It certainly seems like it.

What shocks me about this is we have only banned parallel export as of TOMORROW. There has been concerns about possible drug shortages for weeks.

I only noticed this browsing the Department of Health Website. Not seen anything in this news about this

www.gov.uk/government/publications/medicines-that-cannot-be-parallel-exported-from-the-uk#history

kirinm · 20/03/2020 16:26

I saw an Italian doctor on the news explaining that this "isn't like the flu", it's like critical pneumonia. It sounds so awful.

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 16:28

Andrew Neil - 'Death toll in Lombardy alone is 380 in past 24 hours. Poor, glorious Italy has become the epicentre of this crisis. Sad and terrible.'

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/03/2020 16:28

California in lockdown now.

WHY will the UK govt not act??

cathyandclare · 20/03/2020 16:30

I've heard that some private hospitals are being requisitioned for NHS care next week.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2020 16:31

Heres the press release for the parallel export ban

www.gov.uk/government/news/crucial-medicines-protected-for-coronavirus-covid-19-patients

The parallel export ban will help ensure there is an uninterrupted supply of medicines for NHS hospitals treating coronavirus patients.

The new restrictions cover crucial medicines such as:

adrenaline
insulin
paracetamol
morphine

Parallel exporting is when companies buy medicines meant for UK patients and sell on for a higher price in another country, potentially causing or aggravating supply problems.

All medicines on the list are in high demand across Europe as health systems come under increasing pressure from coronavirus (COVID-19).

The restrictions are a standard measure to manage potential medicine shortages and protects UK patients by ensuring the NHS has the treatments to continue providing world-class care.

Is Bozo talking at 5? Do we have any ideas on topics tonight?

HouseElfy · 20/03/2020 16:34

I'm losing all hope of the government actually doing anything.

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2020 16:34

FT reporting that London bar and cafe closures could be order in todays presser rather than Monday or more gradually over the weekend.

I suspect that its likely.

Yamayo · 20/03/2020 16:34

How many more cases in the US?

Angryrant55 · 20/03/2020 16:35

They might order them tonight for monday - hoping they go like theates and all close en mase.
