Just interested to see what is happening in different areas around the UK right now. From high coronavirus areas to low coronavirus areas.

London
WFH , final school run today

dementedma · 20/03/2020 07:09

Scotland. Not ill, not in lockdown so most folk out and about with social distancing.

JorisBonson · 20/03/2020 07:12

SE London, police officer (mainly office based), still going to work every day. Cancelled any reservations or social plans for the foreseeable.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 20/03/2020 07:12

South East and working at my normal place of work - our desks are a good distance apart and we are all conscious of hand washing - wipes for desks and hand sanitisers are provided everywhere. I'm not going out unnecessarily, for example at lunchtime, and coming straight home.

However .... AA meetings are a lifeline for many people. I haven't attended one in person for a week, but 12 years in I have daily contact with others, plus have done two Zoom meetings this week. I'm going to a meeting tomorrow, sitting well apart, washing hands beforehand, no tea/coffee unless you take your own. It'll be a very small meeting.

Ginfizz2 · 20/03/2020 07:16

Sw London. Key worker (nhs) and worked yesterday, finished around 20.00 and was pretty shocked at how busy public transport was. Much more traffic than usual as well. Went for a run along the south bank on Wednesday and there were much less people around than normal.

Writersblock2 · 20/03/2020 07:41

Cornwall. Still going to work (office based). Boss won’t let us wfh even though we can.

motortroll · 20/03/2020 07:43

South east. Socially very distant but still going to shops if necessary and running across the field/woods by my house. And obv school run until end of today!

I did go see my parents yesterday as I think I won't see them for a while. Worried about my dad as his immune system is crap even though he's not "at risk" officially for that, just his age. I did take hygiene precautions in their house and delivered them some antibacterial wipes. I feel like it was wrong to go but also right as they need to be told off about going out and they ignore me on the phone! My mum is still going to work in a charity shop today. She won't be persuaded otherwise!

IamPickleRick · 20/03/2020 07:49

Just outside London. Haven’t been out at all. Friends are still doing meet ups, I have a friend who has been to the pub everyday since it was announced not to.

The shops and restaurants may well be open but that’s not a green light to go. They are open because shops are essential services. Restaurants still want to make a living while they still can (and why not), and they’ve not been ordered to close.

If you are deciding not to practise social distancing while these things are still open, you will never do it. Boris really doesn’t want to curtail freedoms (and I say that as someone who hates him). The change must come from YOUR behaviour and whether you decide to make a contribution to stopping the disease spreading or giving it further hosts to feed on. (I don’t include people going to work in this list obviously. That’s essential)

You will be ok but you could be stood next to someone with cancer.

Ronia · 20/03/2020 07:55

Very central London and live very close to major touristpot which was incredibly quiet yesterday. We're only going out to supermarkets and to the park with kids (live in a flat and children need exercise and air!)

Scruffyoak · 20/03/2020 07:55

Suffolk. Only going to work but no choice. Then home and just one of us going to shop if needed. That's it.

Medievalist · 20/03/2020 08:20

Boris just needs to read some of the comments on this thread from the entitled, selfish and misinformed to know that not enough people will follow 'guidance' and we need a lockdown.

Lottiebugz22 · 20/03/2020 08:23

Interesting to see everyone's replies thank you for the huge response. I am in what is considered to be a 'low risk' area in Yorkshire. The supermarkets are always very busy and the panic buying seems to be particularly bad here. Lots of people going about their daily lives up here too. Pubs are all open, restaurants. Leisure centers have been shut down though as of yesterday.

Milton Keynes. DH is still working - has COPD but won't get SSP unless the NHS tell him to stay home and we need the money. I only go out for food and to chemists. Supermarkets packed with people and not much else. Haven't been near pubs or coffee shops but have heard they're very busy Sad

Xdes · 20/03/2020 08:59

@CommunistLegoBloc

Don’t talk to me like that , I went in because it was completely empty so who am I putting at risk ? It’s the crowds that are the risk. I had to go out I’m moving house it was an essential trip to book flooring I have a baby I need flooring. It’s not ideal timing but what can I do ? I’m not being inconsiderate and coughing and breathing over everyone I’m keeping my distance and washing my hands thank you, so clearly I’m thinking of others. That was the last thing I needed to do & we will now be staying at home other than driving to and forth to the new house.

Themaraudersmap · 20/03/2020 09:02

@TashieWoo
SW London. Working from home but today I went to get a pedicure and waxing done as I wanted it done before lockdown”

Prioritising getting your toenails done and waxed. Jesus Christ. How stupid are people.

notacooldad · 20/03/2020 09:03

I am in work today, Sunday evening and Monday and Wednesday next week.
Someone has to look after kids that's on a child protection plan.
Last night we were dealing with a child who was missing from home and another one who doesn't see she is being groomed. We have to carry on trying to keep kids safe.

CommunistLegoBloc · 20/03/2020 09:05

Didn't know getting a burger was an essential part of buying flooring.

Reginabambina · 20/03/2020 09:05

Not going out except for essential shopping now. But other people here clearly aren’t doing the same. Lots of people out and about. Cafes still open with people inside etc. Lincolnshire. As far as I’m aware we have t had any confirmed cases so I think this is encouraging the going out.

trinklesminkle · 20/03/2020 09:11

South east I'm still having to go to work (Royal Mail) but literally going to work and back home.

GeraltOfRivia · 20/03/2020 09:14

I'm NE England. Still walking the dog and keeping away from people. Going to shops for fresh stuff as needs. Otherwise staying home.

Happygirl79 · 20/03/2020 09:36

North East England
Staying home and avoiding contact with other people
Will go out for a walk but stay well away from others
No Mothers day celebrations this weekend for me but we have to see the bigger picture to protect ourselves and others

HavelockVetinari · 20/03/2020 09:45

We're staying in the house mainly but going for a walk every day (we live rurally).

I'm also going to give blood next week, really looking forward to going out tbh!

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2020 09:48

I posted this on a thread last night as well as it's annoying me now. All those saying going to a restaurant isn't essential which technically it's not no. However please think of the staff who work there. My husband is a chef. As the government have not yet insisted they close the only way for the staff to be paid is by customers walking through the door. If they don't staff will be sent home early and therefore loose hours (zero hour contracts), and of course less hours means less pay. also it's the customers who provide the means to pay staff wages.
It's fine for those who will get paid regardless, but please think of those who won't, like my husband. I'm a SAHM so we rely on his income, we have no savings or family who can help, and tbh we just about get by as it is.
Believe me he would love to not have to go out but it's essential for us to survive that he goes to work as long as he can.

Also I have two nail and eyebrow appointments booked, one for Thursday 26th March, the second for Thursday 9th April. If I'm able to go then I WILL be going. My lady is self employed and will most likely struggle if she's forced to not work.good hygiene is always implemented anyway and the salon she is based in are taking all necessary precautions at this time.
I'd be more likely to catch it in a crowded supermarket than in a room with one other symptom free person. (I hardly go anywhere anyway, nursery 4 times a week which obviously is not happening, and my appointment twice a month. I'd hardly call a trip directly from home to the salon and then straight home after excessive socialising. My husband will do shopping as he is out anyway. If you want to judge me go ahead but tbh I don't care for the opinions of a bunch of strangers).

Miljea · 20/03/2020 11:55

Hmm. Lots of 'interesting' responses, here! 🤔

What are 'all the necessary precautions' your nail tech is taking to make your visit 'safe'? What if you are a silent carrier? Or she is? How will you know?

Yes, I get pretty close to Joe Public on a daily basis, just hoping that the symptomatic stay away or we get to gear up accordingly, but that's because I'm an NHS radiographer. Morally I have no choice.

You do.

NoRoomInBed · 20/03/2020 11:56

Been inside since last sunday just because I'm scared to catch it. We have 5 confirmed cases in the highlands
