news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-london-shops-could-close-and-transport-restricted-by-weekend-whitehall-sources-11959814

sky news also reporting on London lockdown this weekend.

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 23:21

Lockdown needs to be announced tommrow.

Its annoying that where we live in london only one supermarket is in walking distance - overwise its the co-op mini tesco and iceland. No car so its relying on those stores for weeks will be tough compared to the luckier people within walking distance of big supermarkets.

Angryrant55 · 18/03/2020 23:23

Presumably in some places everyone will have to drive as not sure people will be able to rely on a village shop for weeks particularly for dietary requirements.

As if retired and deregistered HCPs will go back, knowing what we know about the lack of PPE. Where are these stockpiles? If they don't exist, do other supposed stockpiles exist?

I have just noticed that my lymph glands are enormously swollen, bigger than when I had GF last year. We're self isolating anyway as DS has a cough but I've been feeling under the weather for a while. Last week my temperature was raised to 37.6 so not quite the fever threshold. I'm sort of hoping I've got it and I'm on the mend. I want to get on with helping out.

Anyone checked their glands lately? BlushGrin

SummerSazz · 18/03/2020 23:29

I live in a hamlet @Angryrant and 10 minutes won't be long enough to get anywhere..... 🤨

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 18/03/2020 23:30

Sky News is being massively irresponsible. Look what happened when the news of Lombardy's lockdown was leaked.

ClientQueen · 18/03/2020 23:31

@itsallwrongisntit offering a hand hold
I'm having a complete freak out tonight, am isolated alone as high risk, worried about work, worried about pay and worried about the world

MurrayTheMonk · 18/03/2020 23:33

I got an email late this eve at care home saying the government will deliver to us 300 face masks by Tuesday. At last the cavalry begins to arrive!!!

MurrayTheMonk · 18/03/2020 23:35

If they could also deliver 8 healthy staff that would be aces!

OldQueen1969 · 18/03/2020 23:37

I dunno if it is irresponsible tbh. The info is coming from allegedly reputable sources, and at least we know what is likely to happen. I'd rather be slightly ahead of the curve personally. I have sick olds to wrangle in two different parts of my town and no transport of my own. If lockdown comes this far, I need to be first in line for some sort of pass or I'll have three sick and starving relatives to contend with. On the upside, it might improve my overall health and fitness if I have to walk everywhere, virus notwithstanding of course - maybe I'll even lose a few pounds. Every cloud and all that.

Lynamic · 18/03/2020 23:45

It's all im scared of getting trapped in a tiny flat, my dc starving and getting infected when we do go out. If I manage to move to rural before quarantine I would worry about serial killers. It's like normal but exaggerated worries when you're the only one. It's hard to be the only one making decisions. Life really isn't fair, but it is inexcusable for a man to desert his children and their mother, I hope they are forced to face what they've done at the end of their lives.

Lumene · 18/03/2020 23:47

Last 3 people I (virtually) spoke to are all getting out of London due to the lockdown.

West Sussex and Devon.

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 18/03/2020 23:53

Thank you @SansaSnark have been worried this evening that DD would have to go to school as she has an ehcp.
Feeling quite surreal and anxious tonight after the schools announcement. Dh and me are meant to be seeing our DMs for mother's Day, I really don't want to but both sets are really keen for us to go.

DonkeyKong2019 · 19/03/2020 00:32

Well I think we can safely conclude that the OP of the first thread was not being unreasonable.

DonkeyKong2019 · 19/03/2020 00:33

I also live in a London second home hot spot. Marvellous.

Lynamic · 19/03/2020 02:03

You all sleep well don't you

ajandjjmum · 19/03/2020 04:29

It's been like the phoney war - all about to get real, and it's bloody frightening. None of us have ever known anything like it, in terms of threat to our loved ones, apart from those who have lived through the war.

I think the threat to the nation's mental health is as serious as the physical threat of Covid-19.

Can't sleep tonight. Stressing about DD whose boss wants her to stay in London although they're working from home, and DS who's now stuck in Sydney - happy and working from home - but away from my little nest.

Reastie · 19/03/2020 05:23

If London is on lockdown does that mean everyone in London can still work and travel as normal to and from work just not travel for pleasure and go out for fun? Dh is a gardener and works in outer London. He’s self employed and I’m now wondering if he will be able to continue work.

Also how will they define London? Just central London? Every London Borough?

Hippywannabe · 19/03/2020 06:15

I have just seen on my FB a 'friend' post a photo of her sullen 15 year old withbher laughing after tellingbhim he still has to go to school, she is training as a nurse.
He is 15! do people not realise we are extremely unlikely to be teaching??? Surely schools being open to key worker kids is only for those who absolutely cannot get childcare elsewhere. They will be mixed up together in a hall with videos and crafts not having individual tuition.

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 06:16

Think it would be like Italy-if you have a valid reason to be out then you can be-so going to work ( if you absolutely can't work from home -valid. Popping to your mates house-not valid).

My nephew is at uni in London. I said to him on the family wattsapp yesterday- just come to us ( we are nearest in Home Counties) or go home no to your mums ( Derbyshire). Uni is shut anyway so... he was all ' no I need to get access to the library'. My sister said 'it's fine he's on a campus like a little village'. And don't worry-'I'll come and get you if needed' They aren't getting it at all. It won't be as simple as just popping to the library or driving casually into London. But they won't hear it.
That said my sister is also still visiting my very old and in one cases COPD parents. Again she doesn't get it. And she used to be a nurse FFS.

I wonder if the strong rumours are planted deliberately by government. So people hear them and start to take things seriously and in London's case-get out. And sob that we then get used to the idea of lock down when they announce it for the rest of the country. (Because clearly unlike the residents of the rest of Europe we need to be eased into jt rather than just told straight for some reason).

MurrayTheMonk · 19/03/2020 06:19

Yes I mean I would assume that schools being open for key workers kids means younger kids, not 15 year olds that could otherwise (any other issues not withstanding) be left by themselves for the duration of a work day?

Skittlesss · 19/03/2020 06:28

Yes, I should imagine that schools would be questioning why a 15 year old, with no SEND needs, would need childcare.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 19/03/2020 06:29

The people leaving london are selfish arses. They are going to he going to second homes like Cornwall which already have shit health services for locals. Spreading the virus further, making already stretched services even worse. But hey as long as you got out it's all ok isn't it?

I am still waiting to hear if my work from home request is going to be authorised. The Uni is still "open for business" but technically closed to students, although that memo seems to of got lost in translation to them as so many of them were on campus yesterday socialising (we have no halls on campus it is just uni teaching and socialising buildings and the library).

Calmonthesurfacebut · 19/03/2020 06:32

Morning

Interesting post about the army, last night we saw a huge convoy of army trucks heading on a motorway going into Liverpool. It was quite surreal.

DH thinks they are either bringing equipment in, or setting up some sort of base, there is an army training ground on the outskirts.

My sister in Cornwall is terrified all the holiday homers will come down from London and swamp the villages. They only have a small hospital there and really aren’t geared up for it.

I’m still coughing, felt rough yesterday, but still no temp. so maybe this is just a normal cough.

Helenj1977 · 19/03/2020 06:35

Morning everyone. The usual wake up and remembering is getting easier.

Everyone ok?
