Poor Boris

He looks like he hasn't slept for a week. I never thought the day would come when I'd feel sorry for Boris and think that Trump sounded professional Confused(in his press conference today). Everything is upside down. We're fucked, aren't we?

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 22:49

Trump did seem more off today than usual.

Smellbellina · 18/03/2020 22:49

@StillDisappointed or an iron, or an ounce of humility

LittleRootie · 18/03/2020 22:51

Why are we even discussing Corbyn?

I think Tory voters like MarshaBradyo had their brains rewired during the GE campaign by constant repetition of the slogans and now can't hear anything negative about the Cons without immediately switching to 'But Corbyn'.

Forgone90 · 18/03/2020 22:51

I feel for him, pregnant fiance aswell who is probably having mood swings etc.. People need to remember he is still human... Some people make everything about politics....

Same goes for people slating how little ICU beds we have per 100k population.. We are like 7th highest in the word yet people act like we're an embarrassment to have that little!

StillDisappointed · 18/03/2020 22:52

@Smellbellina or empathy, or the number of a tailor (what's with the incredibly baggy suits?)
I could play this game alllllll night Grin

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 22:55

Don’t be silly there have been mistakes. And I am tense about it. More than tense. But I trust Chris Whitty so the rest is not that relevant. The best thing he did was get them up their with him.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 22:55

There

chomalungma · 18/03/2020 22:56

The renters can’t be ignored and aren’t

And that's why nothing was mentioned YESTERDAY in the announcements - and had to be brought up by the media, renters and Corbyn today so Johnson could say something.

I guess it slipped his mind.

Just like his response to the low SSP

Still he has his slogan - because we need a slogan.

"Whatever it takes".

Repeat again and again

mindproject · 18/03/2020 22:57

I've never been a Boris fan because he's a Tory and because Brexit; but I think he has dealt with this problem as well as anyone could right now. I don't think he's been that consistent, he's probably just reacting to stuff as it happens because we are all just doing that and it's very fast moving. It really is hard to know the best thing to do, I think he probably knows he can't please everyone, he can't really win. Time will tell if he made any correct decisions. I assume he wants to get it as right as he possibly can. I hope he doesn't have bad intentions. I have hope. He was right when he said 'many people are going to die'. That is inevitable. I still haven't made my mind up about any of this, I suspect Boris hasn't either.

Defenbaker · 18/03/2020 22:59

I don't envy him, being PM is a thankless task at the best of times, but this is a major crisis that is escalating daily.

I think he is doing a reasonable job so far, not perfect, but he's doing his best to balance public health needs while keeping the economy afloat. He has a huge weight of responsibility on his shoulders, and whatever he does he will be criticised. He's not great at thinking on his feet during press conferences and he does have the look of a frightened rabbit in headlights at times, but I can understand him looking fearful - this crisis is frightening.

1forsorrow · 18/03/2020 23:01

Do people honestly think Corbyn would be better? We will never know how Corbyn would have done, or Mickey Mouse or the Dalai lama. What we do know is Boris and his gang have made an almighty mess of it. Maybe the lockdown and more testing will start to turn things round but we shouldn't be in this position. We could see what happened elsewhere in the world, we were lucky we weren't first, we weren't second but did we actually benefit from what others had learned? Did we hell. My husband is in his 70s and not well, if anything happens to him I will curse Johnson, he will have blood on his hands because even if my husband escapes others won't.

Feel sorry for him? Don't make me laugh.

Crafting1Queen · 18/03/2020 23:02

Karma - careful what you wish for.

Unfortunately this period in History, will no doubt be known in the future as;

The Brump Era

In hundreds of years, people will be studying this period in time, and wonder if the world took a collective brain fart, but they won't complain too much, as anyone in between the not too distant future and then, will get their degrees on the back of this, Masters, PHDs and so on. Can you imagine the Thesis' that will be written?

chomalungma · 18/03/2020 23:02

On the bright side, he's not Trump.

PotholeParadise · 18/03/2020 23:02

Corbyn, Corbyn, Corbyn...

May I remind memebers of the Conservative party that it didn't have to be a choice between Corbyn and Johnson, and you could have chosen someone else to lead the Conservative party?

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 23:07

Having said I trust Chris Whitty’s expertise I’m not even convinced that we’re not in deeper hell than we might have been. It’s all a bit much. But you can only go forward. Stressed.

DDayDoris · 18/03/2020 23:08

Corbyn would have faffed too. He faffed on brexit. Sad state of leadership now. But maybe it was ever thus. Lot of our PMs have been shameful.

Icantreachthepretzels · 18/03/2020 23:14

Same goes for people slating how little ICU beds we have per 100k population.. We are like 7th highest in the word yet people act like we're an embarrassment to have that little!

according to this table we must be at least 25th - not 7th by a long way

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_hospital_beds#Numbers

25th isn't dreadful - but it's hardly world class, or anything to trumpet about. Certainly nothing to put your faith in when our government has been so much slower to react than governments of nations both with more ICU beds and those with less.

We have 6.6 per 100K. Ireland has 6.5 ... but their government has been a lot more proactive which will more than make up for our ever so slightly increased number of beds.

I just got it from here no idea if it's correct etc sorry if not.

Saoirse7 · 18/03/2020 23:28

Feel sorry for him?

Not a chance. This is the man who spearheaded Brexit, he wasn't 'left with the mess of Brexit'.

He has had possibly more notice and time to get ready for the arrival of coronavirus than any other country in Europe. Look at people like Macron and Varadkar, those are leaders. Boris can't even make a statement without being flanked with two professionals he can deflect tricky questions to. He is an absolute fraud, an embarrassment on the World stage to the people of Britain.

Forgone90 · 18/03/2020 23:31

@Saoirse7 of course he will deflect thos questions he's not a health professional of a scientist it would be stupid for him to answer them.

At the end of the day no one can claim its been handled poorly until its all over. If we end up with a lower death rate than most countries I couldn't care less if he's not good at press conferences!

NeckPainChairSearch · 18/03/2020 23:48

Do people honestly think Corbyn would be better

This could not be less relevant.

The Tories can be judged very, very harshly, entirely on their merits. No imaginary comparisons necessary.

CendrillonSings · 19/03/2020 01:56

No imaginary comparisons necessary.

Nothing imaginary about it - Labour supporters wanted to install the stupid communist as PM only 3 months ago. So great is their embarrassment that they pretend Corbyn never existed, even though - amazingly! - he is still the leader of the Labour Party...

PotholeParadise · 19/03/2020 02:16

If the best you can say about Johnson is "he's not Corbyn", then that is damning.

NeckPainChairSearch · 19/03/2020 02:32

Labour supporters wanted to install the stupid communist as PM only 3 months ago. So great is their embarrassment that they pretend Corbyn never existed, even though - amazingly! - he is still the leader of the Labour Party

Projecting there much? Grin

But anyway. This is relevant to how Boris is doing...how? The obsessing about Corbyn is odd. It's quite Trumpian really, and his obsession with Obama.

If the best you can say about Johnson is "he's not Corbyn", then that is damning

Yup.

NellyGrace · 19/03/2020 02:36

Can’t believe you’re still here singing the same old shit Cendrillon.
