London lockdown by Saturday?

adiposegirl2 · 18/03/2020 17:48

I live in a top 5 CV London borough. went to the supermarket today.

I was the twilight zone. My children and I was in full protective gear complete with anti bac wipes to wipe down my shopping. But no one else was. I saw 3 people with rubber gloves but that's it.

I was openly ridiculed, laughed at, treble and quadruple looks, recorded. Hello we are in the grip of a pandemic!! Now I can understand how Noah felt when he was building the ark: except we all know what's coming, heck it's already here.

Methinks the severity of the situation is not getting through to people.

Now the schools are to be officially closed from Friday, considering London is a CV hotspot, I'd wager a London lockdown by Sunday night.

What do you think the likelihood of that is?

I'm all for a lockdown, we're doing it already (I have to go out to work, though, NHS). Too many people are doing fuck all.
But equally I think your protective gear in the supermarket is OTT. Dettol has not been shown to kill COVID-19, it tells you that in their websites. Gloves and masks are only needed if you're frontline NHS or if you actually have the virus and are trying not to spread it. How anxious are your children??

duckduckgoosealbatross · 19/03/2020 01:48

And @Colourpanda 5-6 months is unsustainable Confused

willdoitinaminute · 19/03/2020 01:56

Do a bit of research re masks. If they are basic ones they may actually increase the risk of catching the virus. You need at least an FFP3 even then there are no guarantees. And gloves don’t protect you unless you avoid touching any part of your body while wearing them.
I have 30 yrs experience of infection control as a HCP who works about a foot away from the dirtiest place in the body, the mouth.
The best way to protect your children is not to take them out of the house!

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/03/2020 02:10

Go over to YouTube- see what's happening in Lombadi- home to some of the finest doctors in all of Europe, all because European snowflakes thought they were above a virus.

Okaaaaaay.

Lynda07 · 19/03/2020 02:42

I think it's very likely, not before time.

adiposegirl2 · 19/03/2020 18:09

After listening to the Prime Ministers update, I still theorise we will be under lockdown by Saturday.

BJ cant confirm as the Government feel it would cause a mass panicked London exodus if he did and he needs time to get the army in place to 'assist' the police at checkpoints around the M25.

What were you wearing op?

MarshaBradyo · 19/03/2020 18:13

I really hope he does lock down people are being hopeless about social distancing

LaneBoy · 19/03/2020 18:18

I really hoped the announcement would be about lockdown happening today. Surely the more time rumours have to build the more people will continue to ramp up the panic buying etc anyway?

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/03/2020 18:46

What were you wearing op?

Tin foil hat?

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 19/03/2020 18:50

There’s going to be a lock down, in work alongside my local council, we have already been prepped and informed colleagues today.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 19/03/2020 18:51

and he needs time to get the army in place to 'assist' the police at checkpoints around the M25

Err.......

What were you wearing op?

I asked the same, unless I've missed an update since it was a kind of a tap on the nose and "aha, you know the kind of thing"
um, no that's why I asked lol, why so vague? Grin

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 19/03/2020 18:52

He won’t do lockdown until he really has too and I reckon his another week or so yet...

It’s like the schools he didn’t close them until he really had too

People really should avoid the social media rumours and the people on these threads that know a government persons dog walkers sister and they said....

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 19/03/2020 18:54

Oh FFS, my comment WotchaTalkinBoutWillis Wed 18-Mar-20 23:53:39

was to @TheFlis12345 not the OP!!! Stupid autocorrect filler lol

Derbygerbil · 19/03/2020 19:08

Lockdown by Saturday... Of course they won’t broadcast it in advance. It will announced with little notice

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 21:30

Those who're claiming that there will definitely be a lockdown and 'checkpoints on the M25 Hmm' - Who's your reliable source?

Why would they only put checkpoints on the M25 and not the M40?

Sounds to me like you're loving the drama to be honest OP.

I said I still theorise- I'm an independent thinker using discernment based on available information from other countries where CV is raging. This is a public discussion forum- how/ what else should form the basis of my posts?

Why would they only put checkpoints on the M25 and not the M40?
Because London is the CV hotspot and all London boroughs are within the M25 so precaution to extend right to outer london areas that are also within the M25

Sounds to me like you're loving the drama to be honest OP.
There really is NOTHING to love about this worldwide pandemic I think you suffer from #snowflakementality but I wish you and yours well through this difficult time.

OP posts:
AutumnRose1 · 19/03/2020 22:33

In terms of “little notice” they’ll need to give people enough time to leave work and get home etc.

So....four hours?

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 22:33

Snowflake mentality how exactly? I think that's a bit rich coming from someone who went out to a supermarket (with kids) dressed in PPE..

Surely you'd want to stop people from leaving London though? So they can still leave via the M40?
I have family in West London who don't have to touch the M25 to get out of the area so your plan is slightly flawed. Or aren't we allowed to criticise the all knowing oracle that is @adiposegirl2

Critical thinking? Hilarious. You're no more knowledgeable than the next average Joe in this situation I'm afraid; but don't let that stop you from your crusade of superiority.

LangClegsInSpace · 19/03/2020 22:45

London needs locking down.

The longer the government farts about the more people will panic buy and the more people will flee the capital, spreading the virus to the length and breadth of the whole country.

Rich or poor, if people don't trust the government they will just look after their own interests. The queen has fucked off out of London and the poor are left squabbling amongst themselves over bags of pasta and toilet rolls.

The government need to do whatever is necessary to limit the spread of this virus while making sure everyone's basic needs are met. If they can't do that then I am officially worried.

Rosehip10 · 19/03/2020 22:47

Anyone seen the report from the hospital in Italy on sky news tonight? Anyone seeing that and not thinking a strict lockdown is needed are insane.

SugarSugarShimmy · 19/03/2020 23:14

@LangClegsInSpace you do realise London isn’t made up of ‘the Queen’ and then ‘poor people’?

Willow2017 · 19/03/2020 23:17

Dettol anti-bac wipes (which are clearly marked as such) kill coronavirus. Fact.

Rubbish actually.
Dettol.has admitted they have not trialed their wipes on CV 19. There is no proof anywhere that it will kill it.
They work on an older type of human CV not the new one.
This was all started by yet another fb photo warrior spreading nonsense.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 19/03/2020 23:27

Dettol anti-bac wipes (which are clearly marked as such) kill coronavirus. Fact.
Thing is, nothing has so far been tested against this, that's where the worry lies in my opinion.
You'll get products saying they kill 99% of germs etc, but this strain of CV is new. No reason it won't be blasted by disinfectant/anti bac wipes etc, but nothing concrete yet.
Just keep being sensible Smile

LangClegsInSpace · 19/03/2020 23:56

Of course I do SugarSugarShimmy. I live in London and I'm bang in the middle of the income scale. Do you live in London? What's your assessment of the situation right now for Londoners?
