London lockdown by Saturday?

adiposegirl2 · 18/03/2020 17:48

I live in a top 5 CV London borough. went to the supermarket today.

I was the twilight zone. My children and I was in full protective gear complete with anti bac wipes to wipe down my shopping. But no one else was. I saw 3 people with rubber gloves but that's it.

I was openly ridiculed, laughed at, treble and quadruple looks, recorded. Hello we are in the grip of a pandemic!! Now I can understand how Noah felt when he was building the ark: except we all know what's coming, heck it's already here.

Methinks the severity of the situation is not getting through to people.

Now the schools are to be officially closed from Friday, considering London is a CV hotspot, I'd wager a London lockdown by Sunday night.

What do you think the likelihood of that is?

Some Dettol does kill viruses. Not all of it but certain product lines too.

Army is ready to mobilise but it hasn’t yet. Clapham thing is a massive rumour.

I’m London based and I’m staying put. Wouldn’t budge from London’s amazing hospitals at a time like this and it’s immoral to spread it around. I’m sticking with my home and my city.

I’m social distancing. Taking big precautions, but reigned to getting it 100%

TheFlis12345 · 18/03/2020 23:16

@CourtneyB123 The army were not seen in Clapham today. Some old photos of army cadets on St Johns Road, just round the corner from their base, were posted on Facebook. It was fake news, as were all the pictures of army convoys on motorways, most of which weirdly seemed to be drinking on the wrong side of the road Hmm I live in central London as do most of my friends and nobody I know has seen any increased Amy presence.

Grobagsforever · 18/03/2020 23:20

Wow @colourpanda are you psychic? Otherwise do fuck off

Grobagsforever · 18/03/2020 23:23

@slurpy ahhhh yes let's wheel out the 'expert' DH's.

Grobagsforever · 18/03/2020 23:24

@theflis12345

Thank you. This thread is full of idiots/trolls/liars

CorianderLord · 18/03/2020 23:25

What do you mean by protective gear? I have masks and sanitizer but are you wearing hazmat suits?

@CourtneyB123 the training ground is in Clapham they're always round there

CorianderLord · 18/03/2020 23:33

OP the pack says it kills coronavirus - this is a family of viruses. They have NOT tested COV19 which is one of many corona viruses

CorianderLord · 18/03/2020 23:33

Also lol you were wearing a gown?? You must've looked like a lunatic

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 18/03/2020 23:53

@adiposegirl2
Thank you for that, I love the internet/social media but also hate it at times like this for the absolute utter horseshit that gets put out as facts and people whip themselves up into a frenzy/panic infect others and swallow it all.as truth.

Greysparkles · 19/03/2020 00:00

Well I for one hope they don't close London down. Some of us still need to work.
Not everyone can work from home.

Itwasntme1 · 19/03/2020 00:03

I am a little concerned about your children. They must be feeling very anxious - what age are they?

There are some good resources online about managing anxiety and talking to your children.

Please try not to take them out shopping like this anymore, it must be really scary for them.

Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:03

Greysparkles how do you think we might contain the virus? Hmm

Greysparkles · 19/03/2020 00:05

Balkinfly how do you think I'm going to afford to feed my family Hmm

Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:07

The Government will step in to support . We need to take this seriously.

Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:08

Greysparkles Flowers I wish you well in the coming weeks xx

Greysparkles · 19/03/2020 00:10

The Government will step in to support . We need to take this seriously

I don't think anyone truly believes that. The government has been woefully inadequate so far. But thank you

Balkinfly · 19/03/2020 00:12

Remember Greysparkles if you have to stop work who will pay taxes for those who do?
Everyone will feel this no one will be in a good situation and I say that from someone who has a DH who works on the frontline.

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 00:19

I'm interested in where you found PPE to fit your children.

I'm just imagining a family walking around the local supermarket in full hazmat suits, spraying everyone and everything around them with anti-bac spray and quarantining the shopping the second they get home.

I bloody hope they don't shut London down either. My dad is a black cab driver, if London shuts he physically cannot work. If he can't work he gets no money; he still has rent and bills to pay, he needs to buy food and fuel.
The self-employed have been offered absolutely no help from the government - they've, of course, bailed out the big companies first. The ones that can afford to take a hit for a while.
The ones who literally live on that days takings? Haha, no chance.

Nikhedonia · 19/03/2020 00:35

DD's dad and I are separated, would we be allowed to meet to change DD over in the lockdown or do you think we wouldn't be allowed out at all?

tryingtoprep · 19/03/2020 00:46

@StillDisappointed Personally I'd count your dad as an essential worker. In lockdown some people still need to get around. Other essential workers - healthcare, police, fire, delivery people, power and water workers, rubbish removal, social services especially elderly and disabled care, food and pharmacy staff. Also people will need to get to hospital for emergencies, others need to visit elderly or disabled relatives to provide care. London more than the rest of the UK has many non drivers. Taxi drivers will be needed.

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 01:02

He has 2 conditions that class him as 'at risk' too @tryingtoprep
A weakened immune system and a lung issue. So I'm very, very concerned.

At the moment he is working 18 hour days and earning next to nothing. Not even breaking even once we take into account his food and the rental for his taxi.

You'd think he's an essential worker but unless there's people out to 'put their hand up' then he earns nothing.
Now the schools are closed, people are working from home, the hospitals and GP surgeries are cancelling face-to-face appointments and people are booking home delivery slots/using deliveroo or Uber for food he has no work.

Unfortunately, banking on the odd person needing to travel to an elderly/vulnerable family member or needing to get to an hospital isn't enough to even cover his overheads.
He said today he wants to continue to work but with £280pw for his taxi and at least £10 per day fuel before food/bills/rent... it's money that isn't there.

MigginsMrs · 19/03/2020 01:06

I am dying to know what you were wearing as well. You know if you get it you’ll probably be fine, just stay home so you don’t spread it to those who won’t be.

adiposegirl2 · 19/03/2020 01:30

just wrote an epic post but lost it🤯

Please let's not derail this thread.

No matter how bad a situation is, we all have a choice. Given the information out there on this pandemic, , I choose be proactive. Better to wear protection than moan at someone for coughing within a few feet of me. After all, what did we buy all those cleaning products for?

My trip to the supermarket today made me realise There is a clear disconnect between how the people are receiving what the government/ media are telling us.

We are in a midst of a worldwide pandemic but seem only interested in wiping our arses and making sure our bellies are full.
And moan about our freedoms being taken from us. Italy and Spain did that so we by our own indifference are skipping down the same path. Go over to YouTube- see what's happening in Lombadi- home to some of the finest doctors in all of Europe, all because European snowflakes thought they were above a virus.

We live in a democracy and we were asked to do the right thing. We did not so we are being compelled.

London is CV capital of the UK. We will be locked down. I assert the London lockdown will be with immediate effect with the army already at checkpoints around the M25.

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 01:37

@adiposegirl2 As is the same with many people at the moment, your attitude is very much 'pull the ladder up Jack, I'm alright.'

London going into lockdown means financial ruin for many self-employed who rely on day to day income to survive. It's not just about freedom, it's about people needing to work. A lot of people can't afford to just stay at home; you're in a very privileged position to not be able to see that.
Of course people are worried about ensuring they've enough to eat, it'd be pretty fucking stupid not to worry about feeding your family at the minute.

StillDisappointed · 19/03/2020 01:39

Also, it's not derailing the thread to talk about things you've alluded to in your OP.

It's all very well that you're prepared enough for a lockdown. I'm glad you're in a sound enough financial position to not have to worry; but many people aren't.
