Unable to buy paracetamol what to do?

I only want x1 box just in case, or for just general use. Nowhere has any & I literally have none.

What else can you take to reduce fever?

Luckily I have calpol for my DS.

But if we catch COVID19 & have a rocket fever we’re fucked. There’s none anywhere

Try a local corner shop maybe. I found toilet rolls in mine

wendz86 · 18/03/2020 17:14

I second corner shops and small shops. We have a nisa that had panadol and calpol.

Hoggleludo · 18/03/2020 17:15

You can take Calpol! As an adult.

dementedpixie · 18/03/2020 17:16

Calpol wouldn't last long if you took it in adult quantities

MrsPMT · 18/03/2020 17:16

Sorry if this is obvious but have you tried asking at the pharmacy counters in the supermarket? sometimes the shelves are empty but they have some to buy over the counter.

Mrsjayy · 18/03/2020 17:18

Lemsip has paracetamol in it . But yeah the local shops are your best bet.

Grandadwasthatyou · 18/03/2020 17:21

My dd visits an elderly lady once a week and was looking for paracetamol for her. She thought she had hit the jackpot when she found some in a little corner shop but nearly had a fit when he charged her £18 for 2 boxes. £18!!

CherryPavlova · 18/03/2020 17:22

Order online from online pharmacy

HarrietTheShy · 18/03/2020 17:23

Ebay. Lots of the American version (Tylenol) for sale.

Princessfaffalot · 18/03/2020 17:25

Post on Facebook, someone you know must have one packet they can spare you. 1 in 5 of us are probably sitting in loo roll forts popping paracetamol like they’re wine gums given the state of the shelves.

Glaceon · 18/03/2020 17:26

Please dont panic buy asprin instead. Those of us who use it for blood clotting issues are struggling to get it.

YgritteSnow · 18/03/2020 17:28

Savers has them first thing in the morning. I got two boxes this morning but I was there at 9 am as the doors open.

Also I think people forget that lemsip drinks and capsules have high levels of paracetamol in them. I see lemsip everywhere.

That's what I was thinking. I'm planning to post on my Facebook to let people know that if they need anything then they should ask, and if I can help then I will.

TeaForTara · 18/03/2020 17:34

I take paracetamol for pain. Supermarket shelves were empty but the pharmacy had some behind the counter. When I mentioned the arthritis they sold me 2 boxes of 32. It's definitely worth asking at the pharmacy.

ShastaBeast · 18/03/2020 17:35

You don’t need it right now. Plus there is a strong argument for not treating fever as it’s a natural function of the immune system.

Hang on as people fully self isolate, demand should subside.

On the other hand some of us take paracetamol for existing conditions and are struggling to find it. If I run out I will have to see if it can be prescribed. I suffer with chronic pain and many others are in the same position and need paracetamol daily. Leave some for us rather than just in case.

acatcalledjohn · 18/03/2020 17:35

I found plenty in Wilko on Sunday. The Range, B&M, poundshop etc are places I'd try.

pickingdaisies · 18/03/2020 17:36

My local supermarkets were wiped out, but the pharmacy further down the road had loads. I think some pharmacies are keeping it hidden behind the counter, so it's worth asking. And they'll tell you when they're expecting a delivery.

CustardySergeant · 18/03/2020 17:37

The medical experts have said that not only is there no need to reduce fever, but that fever is a very good thing as it helps fight the virus. No harm comes from having a high temperature (according to the doctor on the radio this morning), so reduction of fever is not something we should be thinking we need to do.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/03/2020 17:37

You don't currently need it, so don't buy it.

magicmouse1 · 18/03/2020 17:39

If any of you have a Day Lewis Pharmacy near you i know they get their stock from their own individual supplier (if you don't have a Day Lewis there then i'm sorry) they also should have Calpol!

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2020 17:39

What do you mean you’d be fucked without paracetamol?

Paracetamol relieves the symptoms but you won’t die without it. People aren’t dying from fever. I think you’re overestimating what paracetamol can do.

CustardySergeant · 18/03/2020 17:40

Obviously people may want to take paracetamol if they have a very sever headache and/or severely aching limbs, but if I get it I will try to manage without taking paracetamol as an analgesic, now that I know that the high temperature caused by the immune system fighting the infection is actually helpful.

dizzycatdance2 · 18/03/2020 17:41

Lemsip dies not , as far as I can see, contain paracetamol.
It dies contain ingredients that those with "asprin" sensitive asthma should avoid.

I was second guessing myself over Lemsip after your post (I always avoid any "asprin" type meds)

To eveone out there please double check meds you are taking if they are not your usual ones.

Basically

Most readily available lemsip does NOT contain paracetamol

(Unless there's a paracetamol type I've missed )

Mrsjayy · 18/03/2020 17:43

Lemsip max cold & flu direct lemon sachets contain two active ingredients, paracetamol (1000mg) and phenylephrine hydrochloride (12.2mg). Paracetamol is a simple painkilling medicine used to relieve mild to moderate pain and fever

Very high fevers can cause cell damage. We all need to get advice from the NHS site not just give out ill informed advice.
