Unable to buy paracetamol what to do?

I only want x1 box just in case, or for just general use. Nowhere has any & I literally have none.

What else can you take to reduce fever?

Luckily I have calpol for my DS.

But if we catch COVID19 & have a rocket fever we’re fucked. There’s none anywhere

Also - worth noting, children can develop febrile convulsions......

LIZS · 18/03/2020 19:11

Anadin has a paracetamol version, Wilko had a fair number of packs yesterday. Beechams cold and flu is paracetamol based but the only pack I found in Poundland yesterday had been emptied Hmm

Hername · 18/03/2020 19:12

Bloody hell, I really wouldn’t fancy dealing with the flu without paracetamol, let alone Covid-19.

OP I second posting on local forums (next door seems quite a good one) asking if anyone has a box they can spare you - or that anyone keeps a look out and gets one for you if they can.

UsernameUnknownn · 18/03/2020 19:17

Our local Tesco express seems to be getting a fair bit of paracetamol and hand wash in. Try them too. Always look on top of the shelves too and in some stores the shelves have stock in a draw at the bottom

TheGreatWave · 18/03/2020 19:39

You don't currently need it, so don't buy it.

This is ridiculous advice. The moment that someone needs it, is the moment that they also shouldn't be going out looking for it. Wanting one box of tablets is not stockpiling, and two boxes isn't really either.

OP I hope you find some.

LadyEloise · 18/03/2020 19:44

TickTockTickTockT
Have you tried a garage forecourt?
I got a packet there. It was a 50p more expensive than Tesco.

TheGreatWave · 18/03/2020 19:50

You need to be going off the main track, the big supermarkets and pharmacies are probably sold out, but your little shop just tucked in off the main road will probably have some.

listsandbudgets · 18/03/2020 20:01

DP found some at the petrol station today.. expensive panadol rather than generic. I phoned him after trying 5 pharmacies, Asda, Sainsbury's, super drug, 2 pound shops, 2 news agents and Wilkos... at that point I lost the will to live and went to a cafe sat at least 6 foot from everyone and ordered cake and hot chocolate

SundayGirlB · 18/03/2020 20:01

The local newsagents round my way have loads - try them.

TickTockTickTockT · 18/03/2020 20:29

@LadyEloise I’m going to have one last ditch attempt before lockdown comes. I’ve literally tried everywhere. I’m going to ask my mum if she has any spare but I don’t want to leave her short. She does have other health conditions. I have not actually tried news agents yet. I will try tomorrow. Thank you for all your advice it’s much appreciated. I’d hate to even consider going out to get some when I’m sick as the whole point of lockdown is to have no contact. To everyone on here. Good luck & take care if yourselves x

Every little pharmacy I've been in to has had loads. (Independent ones). Worth calling them first. In South London though so pharmacies like that are everywhere

YgritteSnow · 18/03/2020 20:35

Indeed. You must make sure you wait till you actually have a fever and are feeling very ill. Then and only then, go staggering round the shops looking for it, dripping contagion as you go. At least you'll know you did it The MN Way Hmm

SlackerMum1 · 18/03/2020 20:37

Ask the pharmacist. Plenty of things are marketed for specific purposes (eg period cramps) but the reality is it’s just marketing the active ingredients are paracetamol and maybe caffeine.

SapatSea · 18/03/2020 20:39

I second somebody above who suggested a petrol station. People forget they keep stuff like that.

MadamFlutterby · 18/03/2020 21:35

Our local petrol station stocks calpol, I found out a few months ago. Might well do paracetamol too. Worth a look?

Jonb6 · 18/03/2020 21:38

@KahlanRahl you call it prepping! You mean stockpiling. And not everyone has enough money to buy more than the bare necessities week to week. So please get off your high horse . . .

untoldstories · 18/03/2020 21:42

Please dont panic buy asprin instead. Those of us who use it for blood clotting issues are struggling to get it

Don't you get it on prescription if you have something as serious as blood clotting issues?

MozzchopsThirty · 18/03/2020 21:51

THERE IS SOME FUCKING AWFUL ADVICE ON THIS THREAD!!!!!
Please don't advise based on what you think 🤔

Don't by aspirin for pain or fever it's fairly useless for both
Solpadene or soluble paracetamol - are great as they get straight stuck in
Don't take period pain medication - it's usually naproxen which is an NSAID and not recommended for Cov-19
Ibuprofen - also not recommended now for Cov-19
Do not buy calpol - the amount you would need for one adult dose is about half a bottle
Cold and flu capsules - contains paracetamol, caffeine and sometimes a decongestant which won't do you any harm
Co-codamol - also fine in 8/500 dose but may constipate you

HTH

Lifeisabeach09 · 18/03/2020 22:05

Well put, @MozzchopsThirty.

TickTockTickTockT · 18/03/2020 22:05

Thank you again, I have no Intention of purchasing more than one box. If I need to use it I’m sure one will last me. I’m not a selfish panic buyer more being cautious plus I might need it for general use. I will not touch the aspirin I’m aware most people use it for blood disorders. I did have a blood disorder myself & was taking mini aspirin. I hope everyone finds what they need

I have to say I find it very effective for migraines. 3 soluble aspirin and half a can of full sugar coke gives me a lot of relief. There was a study done on it a few years ago. It's A Thing.

DeRigueurMortis · 18/03/2020 22:08

@TickTockTickTockT

I've got a few packets. Not from stockpiling but because DH forgets to check the medicine cupboard before he buys more, so we seem to accumulate multiple boxes with a few used.

I've got a box of 16 paracetamol capsules with 4 used.

If you want to PM me I'll post them to you rather than you asking your mum or trailing round shops when we should be social distancing.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 18/03/2020 22:14

I bought some Beechams (or something), which is like Lemsip, in a Poundland . It contains high dose paracetamol.

I bought it in case we need to reduce fever, same as you. Hope you find some. It’s for peace of mind, I totally get it

GrolliffetheDragon · 18/03/2020 22:19

All the people saying you should just leave a fever, I had flu a few years back, temp of 102/103, took paracetamol every six hours, gave me about an hour and a half each time when I could feed myself, DH and DS and do anything that wasn't lying in bed shivering and feeling like I was dying. And I had the option of help from my parents for the worst of it. This time, I don't have the option of help off anyone, but DS still needs to eat. So yes, I have a couple of boxes hidden away, but bought them a month ago before the panic buying started.

Nixee2231 · 18/03/2020 22:29

Do you guys not have Ibuprofen in the UK?
