Unable to buy paracetamol what to do?

I only want x1 box just in case, or for just general use. Nowhere has any & I literally have none.

What else can you take to reduce fever?

Luckily I have calpol for my DS.

But if we catch COVID19 & have a rocket fever we’re fucked. There’s none anywhere

So you’d begrudge me one box I will use for general use too. As stated in my OP. We could be isolating for 4-8 weeks & I would never need it in two months. Maybe I should have started stockpiling look what being considerate gets you. @KahlanRahl

Local pharmacy. Calpol six plus or liquid paracetamol 250/5mg would be ok. But they should have some paracetamol. We are currently limiting one box/bottle per customer, to try and ensure as many people who need them can get some.

Lemsip cobtains paracetamol. Beecham's powders contain aspirin.

FredaFrogspawn · 18/03/2020 18:25

I’m not sure codine is great for breathing problems.

Can anyone confirm?

I don't care that much either way personally because I'm in a different country, but you are thinking that you are not stockpiling but you are. You are also not considerate because you are not considering all those people that need it now. I'd have more respect for your decision if you owned that you feel anxious so are panic buying some paracetamol for your stock. I can empathise with panic, what I can't understand or empathise with is saying you don't panic buy while you do.

Bubblysqueak · 18/03/2020 18:26

Have you tried your local garage? No one ever thinks of going there. Ours had loads of toilet roll, hand gel and paracetamol/Calpol/lemsip today.

KahlanRahl · 18/03/2020 18:28

And yes, you should have prepped months ago as a lot of sensible people did. That way the shops could have kept on coping.

TickTockTickTockT · 18/03/2020 18:29

Stockpiling is to store a large supply. I doubt x1 box is a large amount is it now. I literally have none in my house. @KahlanRahl

There is currently a shortage of paracetamol. People panic buying is not the reason. Drop in production in China due to the virus is. Both together have created a huge problem.

TamingToddler · 18/03/2020 18:30

We ordered 50 boxes of 32 paracetamol at work today. They are available just restricted!

theendoftheendoftheend · 18/03/2020 18:30

Don't be ridiculous it's not stockpiling to want one box in the house, that's pretty standard!

MrsPMT · 18/03/2020 18:31

Buying one box is not stockpiling, don't be ridiculous, paracetamol is something people would normally have in a family first aid box along with plasters, antibacterial wipes etc.

givemewaffles · 18/03/2020 18:33

I managed to get 1 box and some paracetamol in our local Aldi this morning (north east) so might be worth trying there? They had plenty of it!

BishopBrennansArse · 18/03/2020 18:34

I've had to get the GP to prescribe it, I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and take 8 a day ordinarily. I can't get it otherwise. I normally don't get it on prescription to try and save the NHS drug budget but panic buyers have stripped the shelves and I cannot go traipsing round shop after shop due to my mobility issues.

OneTooManyBathtimes · 18/03/2020 18:36

My B&M had a nice supply of them today, although as I was getting some it suddenly started getting busy.

I also got 2 boxes of aspirin as I've been getting headaches, and would prefer to have the paracetamol for when I truly need it (which really is now as Dr told me to for whatever abdominal pain I'm experiencing...)

Anyway, it's nappies and loo roll I'm more concerned about. Thankfully it looks like DS is starting to be ready for toilet training so this could be the perfect time for it. Would mean only 1 baby to worry about really...

dementedpixie · 18/03/2020 18:36

Of course buying 1 box isnt stockpiling, dont be ridiculous!

TickTockTickTockT · 18/03/2020 18:36

I’ve been in 6 shops today with a baby, in & out of the car at each one! Total nightmare Shock

Sorry to offload, just can't talk about this with DH. His anxiety is through the roof (although thankfully we've been storing food since Christmas so we're fine)

WrongKindOfFace · 18/03/2020 18:42

Fucking hell, she only wants one box of paracetamol. One.

That’s not stockpiling or panic buying. She hasn’t bought ninety million loo rolls and the entire shelf of tinned toms.

Lifeisabeach09 · 18/03/2020 18:46

I'm an HCP.
I would definitely recommend having a box on hand. If you get a fever and chills, it will be the worse time (for you) to go out and get some and, as you know, you won't find any.
I, also, recommend taking it for fever. There is an argument to let the body fight off a fever on its own without intervention. But you risk letting the fever get out of control and suffering more in the process, which really isn't necessary.
Being prepared is not the same as stockpiling boxes of the stuff.

Nighttimefreedom · 18/03/2020 18:50

Its probably been said but I got some cold and flu tablets instead.

Flusteredcustard · 18/03/2020 18:50

Maybe someone local has some they could let you have, you could pay back when you manage to find some yourself. Maybe you have something that that person needs. It's pretty sensible to have a packet in, when you need them you're not going to want to go out even at the best of times. It's recommended that you keep basic first aid stuff in and some painkillers. It'd be daft to have to go out for just a few paracetamol on a Sunday evening when most places are shut. Just not sensible to have hundreds

turdtimelucky · 18/03/2020 19:02

Alka Seltzer contains aspirin if you're desperate.
I've just heard ibuprofen not particularly recommended for COVID19 as it can suppress immunity, but there was ibuprofen in the shops today. Pound shops that is. Also some lemsip as some have mentioned contains paracetamol.
Another one I noticed in Superdrug was Feminax which I think contains paracetamol.

turdtimelucky · 18/03/2020 19:04

If in poundshops, where the stock remained, was just after the tills, when you're on the way out the door almost.

turdtimelucky · 18/03/2020 19:08

For general use, it would be useful to have ibuprofen too. Hard on stomach, not recommended for asthmatics or if you've a stomach ulcer, but if taken with food in an otherwise healthy adult, it should help for pain and fever.

While perhaps there is an argument for fever, there is also a strong argument against it. Last time I was in hospital, my temp was heading for 41 degrees celsius - close to the temp where body cells cease to function, so it was imperative to get it down at that stage. I felt like I was freezing cold, but was stripped down to one layer of clothes (a t-shirt) as well as being given paracetamol immediately. Please don't listen to the scaremongering suggesting to allow a fever to go out of control.
