Live in London- must be 7 supermarkets within a 10 minute drive of me, I went to 3 today- no meat, no veg, no fruit, no bread- on top of no cleaning products.
What exactly are we supposed to do? I haven’t seen a restocked supermarket in weeks.
FYI I consider all preppers scum!

If your supermarket has stock, Where are you? What time are you turning up to shop?

Our fridge/freezer was ok before Covid19 and is now woefully inadequate! It sounds like we're going to have to buy a bigger one just to get thru this. Hmm

AParallelUniverse · 17/03/2020 19:36

Gosh has the op disappeared. What a surprise. First it's idiots coming onto the prepper threads and forums to mock and goad, now it's anger and bitterness. Lovely.

TheClitterati · 17/03/2020 19:37

Another one who has been quietly prepping for Brexit and have those reserves in place. I've always been a full cupboard person like my mum.

I have just a tiny freezer though so not much in that.

I continue to buy fresh fruit & veg, milk etc.

Just as well I haven't needed to buy loo roll as I haven't see any for a while. My Who Gives ACrap Delivery is due next week but now they are out of stock. I can't buy paracetamol either - would need some if I Came down with c19!! So I guess I'm a half arsed preppier. That's ok with me.

Tesco (Kent) was half empty today.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 17/03/2020 19:37

Sorry but l don't see any issue with buying a bit extra in case of isolation. I have no one near to do shopping for me. People buying 14 of everything are bu.

Juanbablo · 17/03/2020 19:38

I went to Aldi at about 4 yesterday. Low risk area. No chicken, mince, pasta, rice, eggs, beans, tinned tomatoes, spaghetti, medicines, baby wipes, cleaning products, toilet roll, kitchen roll, white bread, biscuits and butter. There were just massive gaps on the shelves.

puds11 · 17/03/2020 19:39

My freezer is tiny so I’m living on the assumption that if we go into lockdown, we will still be able to get fresh fruit and veg. If not I have 2 packs of frozen veg and some old smoothie mix for 4 people Confused

KOKOagainandagain · 17/03/2020 19:39

Don't worry about preppers - we all got sorted months ago and this helped take some strain of panic buying which is the opposite of prepping.

We have been doing this quietly behind the scenes without significant impact for a long time.

This means that there is more in stock for those that were a little, or a lot, behind the curve.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/03/2020 19:39

Gosh has the op disappeared yes sorry had to put my toddler to bed Hmm jeeeze issues much?!

The thing about relying on freezers is if there are power cuts.

onegirlandherdog · 17/03/2020 19:41

I just bought a weeks worth of extra, but it was all the things that noone else seemed to want...tinned fruit, tinned peas, rice, oats, etc. We might have to stay in for 14 days at some point. Hardly any toilet roll though, so that'll be interesting!

chomalungma · 17/03/2020 19:41

Local supermarket today.

Saw 4 customers come out. Each was carrying a 9 pack of toilet roll.

Beer was low.

It's interesting to see what canned food was untouched,

whattodo2019 · 17/03/2020 19:41

Can you drive a bit further out of town? In Hampshire our supermarkets are full. You might not want to drive quite that far !!

AParallelUniverse · 17/03/2020 19:41

Nah it's you that has issues. And taking them out on everyone else.

ShiftyOwl · 17/03/2020 19:42

Just to be clear, my pineapple isn’t a real stunt pineapple, it will indeed get eaten.
Before I get pounced on for depriving someone else of a pineapple!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/03/2020 19:43

i don't know how long this crisis will continue well society is making its own additional crisis, a food shortage crisis!!!

I needed a few bits: fruit, bread, washing up liquid, chicken and chopped tomatoes.
I did end up at a corner shop for washing up liquid and the bread. Some strawberries at a Lidl quite far away....may have also bought some chocolate fingers in an Aldi out of sheer frustration.

It’s bonkers, I called into Sainsbury’s a 6pm and the shelves were bare, needed bread and milk for mum and dad age 83 and 88 and milk for me. Got some hot cross buns, no bread, and two small full fat milk. I left the three huge remaining full fat milks but I bet they’ve gone now.

I will dilute the full fat
Milk to get semi skimmed or similar. On a plus side there is zero food wastage in our house, there was never much anyway but now we are eating some questionable combinations. Smoked haddock and mushy peas isn’t all that bad!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/03/2020 19:44

AGnu · 17/03/2020 19:44

I've got enough tins/frozen things to last us 2-3 weeks. We'd struggle to fit much more in the house. Still shopping as normal, where we can, so we can keep our stock for when/if we really need it. It's nice to know it's there though when we can't get things in the shops. DH finally appreciates why I commandeered a corner of a room & filled it with tins several months ago!

The only "extra" stuff we're buying now goes straight to the local foodbank because their donations are down & they're struggling to buy the things they need. Have also gone through my shelves & identified things that we don't need to survive, like some sponge puddings, that could be sent to foodbank in the hopes of making someone else slightly less miserable.

Yup, I'm scum. Hmm

BanKittenHeels · 17/03/2020 19:44

I’ve been prepping since 2016 and stopped my prepping activity at the start of Feb. It’s nothing to do with me. Unless you think the bananas and breast milk bags (I’m pumping extra for a friend) my best friend bought today and left on my doorstep are impacting you?

I’ve been doing my normal weekly shop as usual and have stopped for 2 weeks. I’ll resume in another 2 weeks. Unless you some how think I can provide fresh fruit for my children in March?
I don’t have to buy meat, store cupboard ingredients, tinned stuff, frozen food, loo roll, medicine, hygiene products etc. because I’m stocked - YEARS I’m advance. The reason I’m stocked up? Because I knew people like you wouldn’t be responsible enough to buy one extra 20p-£1 item every week for years and my doing it would remove me from the scrum and create extra for you and your family in a crisis.

I know it’s really, really difficult and I’m sorry you are having to go through this. Panic buyers are scum, preppers are not.

Stay safe.

NeckPainChairSearch · 17/03/2020 19:45

Anyone still panic buying - you are a bunch of selfish pricks who deserve nothing in life

Look, I agree with the sentiment, but we just can't go down this road, surely. Or we shouldn't.

People are panicking. They're scared their children will go hungry or that a loved one will die. These are not normal times. People are not their best selves possibly, but calling people a bunch of selfish pricks who deserve nothing in life is too much, imo.

My dread is people turning on each other. God knows where we'll be in a month from now. We must all guard against it, and that starts with our actions, our language and trying really hard not to judge people too harshly.

okiedokieme · 17/03/2020 19:45

Same up here, planning on going at opening time tomorrow, we only wanted chicken

MiniMum97 · 17/03/2020 19:45

I was in Waitrose on Sunday just before closing and it was very well stocked. Had everything except loo roll.

I have also prepped and am therefore not contributing to the panic buying. I am not scum thank you very much.

actiongirl1978 · 17/03/2020 19:46

Yep our supermarkets also full on the hampshire/wiltshire borders.

I went to Tesco - got everything I wanted, plus pasta and other bits for food bank.

Aldi - totally full stock, fruit and veg groaning, meat etc all fine

Lidl - full stock.

I have panic bought dark chocolate, no-one else seems bothered about that!

actiongirl1978 · 17/03/2020 19:47

I should add I am also a prepper and bought my stocks in late January following the prep board.

The dark chocolate was a late addition Grin

ifonly4 · 17/03/2020 19:47

I prepped while I had time to sensibly think what we'd need. At the time there was still plenty of anything I wanted on the shelves. Think I made my last preppers purchase about three weeks ago. Worrying a bit if I have enough, but mentally I know I need to stay calm so I'm not going to even let myself start panic buying.

All I have to do now is try and keep on top of the fresh stuff we need. I'm so glad I don't have to go any further than the first third of the store and can reduce my social contact while shopping - part the reason I prepped.
