Tesco bare....why aren't the shelves being restocked ?

I was in my local Tesco at 9am
There was no meat (no chickens or bacon)
The toilet rolls gone,no pasta (basically the obvious things )
At 9am you would think there would be some available.
Is this the same in your area?

Yes, and has been for over a week now.

poolpoolt · 17/03/2020 13:23

My local store wasn't that bad last week.
They had everything even toilet rolls.
It was eeerie in the shops today.

Because they don’t get supply deliveries every day to be able to restock the shelves.
When they get the deliveries... they will restock the shelves.

Teenangels · 17/03/2020 13:26

Because as quick as they fill up the shelves it goes, the stores can only keep so much stock and then they have to wait for the stock to come from the warehouses or the suppliers.

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2020 13:26

I would think that every time they restock it all gets sold again. It could be that deliveries are not at their usual times any more either.

Bargebill19 · 17/03/2020 13:26

Because they too are suffering from staffing shortages? As are their suppliers? Panic buying really hasn’t helped anyone. Staff maybe I’ll, maybe self isolating as per new guidance or having to look after children as schools etc are closing at a rapidly increasing rate.
My DH works as a store delivery driver - curfews on deliveries have been lifted and they are working harder than at Christmas.
Miracles take time.

Bargebill19 · 17/03/2020 13:27

Staff maybe ill - sorry, I really do need to proof read.

HairyFloppins · 17/03/2020 13:29

My daughter works in Home Bargains, as soon as the shelves are being filled the stuff is being taken. They are still having deliveries. People are snatching things out of other people's trollies. People are being vile to staff.

jay55 · 17/03/2020 13:31

I was in an M&S simply food at the weekend. No empty shelves, loads of fresh stuff being marked down.
The Tesco the other end of the shopping centre had been stripped bare the day before.

FlowerArranger · 17/03/2020 13:32

At 9 am today, my local Sainsbury's was heaving. Virtually no eggs, chicken, bog rolls, mineral water, jam, and only half the checkouts manned. But otherwise okay. Though some shoppers seemed a bit frazzled, manic even...

HopeYouStepOnALego · 17/03/2020 13:32

Is it a 24hr store? Shelves will be restocked as soon as possible after the goods arrive at the store - could be morning, noon or night. If the shelves were restocked at 7am then the common things like pasta and toilet roll could be gone within an hour (or less) at the moment.

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2020 13:33

I went to M&S food this morning and all seemed normal except no loo roll.

MsTSwift · 17/03/2020 13:34

I asked this and the lady said some delay drivers hadn’t turned up as Unwell

MsTSwift · 17/03/2020 13:34

Delivery

ShowOfHands · 17/03/2020 13:35

Our Aldi has no meat, cereal, tins, pet food, pasta, rice, cleaning products, bread, jam, nappies, wipes, flour, eggs...

The lovely checkout lady was crying. A bloke had just called her a "fucking cunt".

Sad

What a twat.

Companies should be banning these people.

Itwasntme1 · 17/03/2020 13:54

Tesco has been very poorly stocked here, no toilet roll, pasta, hand wash or tissues.

But small independent shops have most things. This might save our local shops.

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2020 13:56

I can't understand why people have a go at the shop floor staff. Confused It's not their fault.

isabellerossignol · 17/03/2020 13:59

I was in Sainsburys yesterday and there were loads of staff filling up the shelves but as soon as they put something on the shelf, someone put it in their trolley. Although I must say it was very civilised with lots of 'you first', 'no, you first' rather than the verbal abuse and hair pulling that I keep hearing about on social media.

JoJothesquirrel · 17/03/2020 14:04

In Asda they had deliveries but they were all being scooped up as soon as the pallets arrived on the shop floor. I asked a member of staff to get some stock off a high shelf, a box of 6 oat milk and he straight away put the lot in my trolly. I said I only wanted 1 and he said everyone has just been taking trays.
All well and good saying don’t panic but an unexpected 14 day shop for 4 people could look a lot like panic buying.

GooodMythicalMorning · 17/03/2020 14:06

They are but as quick as the pallets or cages turn up they are being emptied!

Anotherwillbealong · 17/03/2020 14:08

I was in Home Bargains earlier looking for Kleenex hankies, mucus cough bottle and a few tinned goods for the food bank.
Had to take a random box of hankies, no cough bottle and the tinned stuff available was pathetic so didn’t buy it.
I know it’s not the staff’s fault.
I asked the girl on the checkout how often they got deliveries.
Every day she said. The staff had been in from 7 o’clock stocking the shelves but it was all being snapped up as soon as the shop opened.
Same story in Iceland. Shelves bare.

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 14:09

I was in aldi today when a small delivery of toilet roll 4 packs was being put on the shelf. Luckily I didnt need any so left them for everyone else. They had limits on items e.g. 2 x dried pasta, 2 x pasta sauce, 1 x tissues, 2 x toilet rolls. Everything else was limited to 4 of each item

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 14:11

And the wee Asda I went to looked as if locusts had decimated the shelves of pasta, toilet rolls, handwash and biscuits

poolpoolt · 17/03/2020 14:11

I bought from the local shop a tin of marvel (powder milk ) just incase
I've never tried it before but I thought if I can't get out for milk it will have to do.
