Lockdown conditions in France

CroissantsAtDawn · 17/03/2020 06:01

Ive seen lots of threads with people worrying about lockdown.and how they would cope/ it would be enforced.

Last night, following the President's announcement I received a text message from the government confirming the lockdown for 15 days and linking to a site with details.

From 12 today we are only allowed out to go to work if work from home isnt possible, buy groceries, see a doctor, help elderly/vulnerable family in need (with reminder about barrier actions), to let a dog do its business or for individual physical activity close to home.

Each time you need a paper dated and signed explaining why you are out. Infringements are fined 38-135 euros. The paper can be downloaded and printed, shown on your phone or just hand written.

100 000 police and army personnel are being deployed to enforce the conditions.

No mention of how children can exercise. Just that parks etc are closed and there should be no family or friends gathering.

We are going to test going out early for run with 1 DC each and hope that is allowed in "individual activity". If its not I ll stand on the doorstep and watch them run up and down the road (2 highly active boys living in a flat....)

That is lovely to hear about the local chocolate.
I am making a chicken in cider and apple dish tonight. As we are rationing apples, I have substituted some apples that we dried a couple of years ago. They are steeping in calvados that a neighbour gave me. It was brewed in 1948 so is just a bit older than me. It smells fabulous.

Makiwa · 25/03/2020 14:16

missclimpson that sounds delicious. Would you be able to share your recipe please?

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 14:30

Yes of course.
It varies a bit depending on what I have got, but basically you brown chicken bits (legs, thighs or breasts etc) in butter. I normally add mushrooms, but tonight's will have chopped leeks as well. Stir it all around in the butter, then add cider to cover and simmer for about an hour. Normally I fry fresh apple chunks in a bit more butter and sometimes a slosh of calva. I then take out the chicken and mushrooms, reduce the liquid down to about an inch and add cream, then reduce some more to make a thick creamy sauce and put the chicken, mushrooms and apple back in. We normally have it with tagliatelle which would horrify the neighbours.
If it sounds very extravagant I can say that every ingredient would normally be available within 100 metres of here.
The oral history of calva as a cure for all sorts of illnesses is amazing. I love listening to my older neighbours.

crapette · 25/03/2020 14:33

That sounds delicious @missclimpson

We used to have a holiday house up in Normandy.
Not much that can't be improved by cream, calvado and apples Grin

Makiwa · 25/03/2020 15:14

Ooh, that is a recipe for our family missclimpson. Everyone likes all those ingredients.

The Trou Normande was the highlight of our wedding meal.

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 15:22

Love the trou normande. When we go out for a meal with the rest of the village there are always a few people walking round pouring calva from plain bottles onto the sorbet. 😀

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/03/2020 15:30

Oooh that does sound delicious.

I really wish we lived more rurally than centre Paris. We have no family links anywhere except Reims though so although we've discussed many times, there's been no strong motivation to move to a specific place and our jobs have always been very HQ in Paris type jobs.

We always holiday in France though (or the UK) to take advantage of local cuisine Grin

Did you know that the website geoportail allows you to see where you can go within 1km of your house?
www.geoportail.gouv.fr/carte

Merci @Roseau18 that's really handy

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 15:57

It is nice isn't it @CroissantsAtDawn.
Tonight we will put our candle in the window and go out to listen to the church bells at 1930. I think we can hear four churches from here.

crapette · 25/03/2020 16:07

A trou normand is much improved by the addition of a few sultanas which have been soaked in calvados for the best part of a day Grin

missclimpson · 25/03/2020 16:31

Apparently quite a lot was buried in our garden during the war. Unfortunately they dug it up again.

brittanyfairies · 25/03/2020 17:08

Hello from The Morbihan,

I must confess I'm enjoying the confinement. My house is clean, tidy and calm. I'm making proper meals. The weather is fabulous so I'm getting to grips with the garden. I have 2 DCs both in lycee they are receiving work but not a great deal.

I will have to go to work at some point because I work in a creche so we're providing childcare for key workers but at the moment we're taking it in turns.

KatharinaRosalie · 25/03/2020 17:18

My house is a lot messier with 2 young DC at home. Normally they are at school and assistente maternelle, and we are working, so it's clean and tidy. Now, trying to do my work, their homeschooling and general entertainment, not so much. We are in a very privileged position that DH and I can both work from home, and we have a garden. But I really miss just normal life.

On the other hand, at least it looks like the government knows what they are doing. I have family in the US. What's happening there is just crazy.

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/03/2020 18:24

Our flat isnt as clean as normal cos juggling work + childcare + homework + extra meals (and shopping) is errr tricky! And 4 of us in all day is making it dirtier. However just before lockdown we bought a robot Hoover. Bloody brilliant. The DSes rush to clear the floor so nothing is eaten then watch it work its way around the flat. Brilliant entertainment apparently. Keeps them occupied and cleans the floor. Win-win!

Just to revert to grim reality for a brief mo.........Angry

The Ministère de l'Intérieur is warning against false police checks.
If you are stopped and don't have a travel waiver:
▪️ NEVER pay the 135€ fine on the spot
▪️ The Gendarmerie/Police always write up a report (on paper/electronic)
▪️ The fine is sent by post

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/03/2020 18:28

Eugh. Some people just really are awful and try to profit from any situation

KatharinaRosalie · 25/03/2020 18:51

Oh yes I heard about those guys in our area as well.

Macron is speaking at 8. What do you reckon, extension of the confinement?

CroissantsAtDawn · 25/03/2020 20:33

Nothing interesting announced. Except investing in healthcare more after the crisis.

I think tomorrow or Friday will be a lockdown announcement

Fx we get to keep the walks and exercise.

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2020 21:37

I understood he was announcing overtime and bonuses for HCP straight away.
Military helicopter carriers to be moored near Réunion/Mayotte and Guadeloupe/Martinique, where things are going to get very bad pretty soon.
And that reference to the fact they are working on long term policies: a way of preparing us for just about anything.

Makiwa · 26/03/2020 09:07

We didn't follow the speech as were having dinner but from briefly hearing the news on the radio this morning I understand the message was that the army are bringing in reinforcements to aid HCP especially in the cluster areas and Dom Tom regions.

Flight crew DD1 made it back from Bangkok with an full to bursting plane. She said that the passengers all gave them a huge round of applause when the captain pointed out that the crew had volunteered to work. They hope that their slogan of, 'we go to work to get you home, now stay there' and has got through.
