How come Idris Elba looks entirely fine with corona? Or have I misunderstood something?

I thought he'd be bed ridden?

OP posts:
Casmama · 16/03/2020 21:30

He said he doesn't have any symptoms but was tested after coming into contact with someone else who tested positive.

halcyondays · 16/03/2020 21:31

A lot of people have no symptoms or feel well enough to go out and about, which is a big part of the problem.

Wolfiefan · 16/03/2020 21:31

Because it’s scientifically impossible for Idris Elba to look anything other than “fine”! Grin

MoggyP · 16/03/2020 21:32

How come actors, footballers etc get tested so quickly?

I can only assume private tests.

OverByYer · 16/03/2020 21:32

I’m guessing private tests too

MissBPotter · 16/03/2020 21:35

It is very mild for many otherwise healthy people.

AntMansVan · 16/03/2020 21:35

Because there are not always symptoms. I read that many people won't even know they have it if they're otherwise in good health.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2020 21:37

Half of the people who tested positive on the diamond princess cruise were asymptomatic. Some might have developed them later. Many others have a very mild version.

Monkeynuts18 · 16/03/2020 21:37

Lots of people get only mild symptoms.

Darbs76 · 16/03/2020 21:38

Have you not read that most people will have minor symptoms? Especially younger people. Most, not all

checkingforballoons · 16/03/2020 21:38

@Wolfiefan was about to say exactly that Grin

ThanosSavedMe · 16/03/2020 21:38

Have you ever seen him looking anything but ’fine’!

glitterbiscuits · 16/03/2020 21:38

I think he looks awful and I volunteer myself to go and look after him. Poor lamb. I shall make him rice pudding.

HeresMe · 16/03/2020 21:39

I'm not sure I believe all these celebs getting it, it's just about keeping yourselves in news and relevant.

BodiesMakeForGoodFertiliser · 16/03/2020 21:40

There was an article that there are probably thousands if not tens of thousands of people who have it, but it's so mild they might not realise.

Saddler · 16/03/2020 21:40

He will have been tested as they identified him coming into contact with a known case, nothing untoward.

Teachtolive · 16/03/2020 21:40

@Wolfiefan nailed it!

Pentium85 · 16/03/2020 21:40

All those asking about testing..

Cos £375 to get privately tested

Iggly · 16/03/2020 21:41

Maybe educate yourself eh.

The coronavirus is asymptomatic (ie no symptoms) in a huge chunk of people who’ve had it.

Celebrities have access to private testing.

So it’s no surprise actually.

This is why the lack of proper public information is a fucking worry, because of posts like yours.

JunkshopLil · 16/03/2020 21:42

Some people get no symptoms at all.

Some people get mild to moderate illness - like a cold.

Some people get more severe illness but are still able to manage it at home. Like a nasty cold or flu.

Some people get severe illness that requires hospital treatment.
Some of those will require ventilation.

Some people will require intensive care.
Some of these will die.

Those are the degrees of illness. From nothing to death and all variations in between.

Racmactac · 16/03/2020 21:44

Dont know but I will happily mop his brow for him Smile

ViciousJackdaw · 16/03/2020 21:45

Absolutely. Callum Hudson-Odoi looked fine and dandy in his videos and Mikel Arteta was himself after a day or so. Nadine Dorries DM was virtually unaffected! It's perfectly possible that me or you has already had it and just not known.

daisychain01 · 16/03/2020 21:49

I don't think Nadine Dorries was unaffected, she said she had a wretched time with it.

Fluffybutter · 16/03/2020 21:50

Clearly missed something,op.
All the news about covid says you may have little or no symptoms.

JunkshopLil · 16/03/2020 21:51

I also saw an interview with an elderly American man who was on one of the cruise ships, describing his experience with it. He said he had a high temperature for a day, then a bit of a dry cough and a sore throat, but he's had worse plenty of times. Also his wife with whom he shared a cabin didn't get it at all, so it's not inevitable you catch it even when it's a husband and wife living in close proximity to each other.
