So many people with a sore throat then mild cough - could this be it?

DD had a very heavy cold last weekend, proper smothering snotty, sneezing cold with aches and pains, sore throat etc.
She recovered in about 5-6 days and returned to school. A few days after her (last Wednesday onwards) I started feeling like I had a cold coming on, mainly a sore throat and an aching back. This developed into a mild, slightly productive thickly annoying cough over this weekend and my chest feels tight, back still achy. I have no fever only the occasional chill but it’s short lived and I generally feel ok.

I’ve read loads of posts on FB and on here of this sore throat and then developing into a cough and I’m wondering if this could be it? We’d never know. I keep thinking the aching back is tension and tight feeling in my chest anxiety and the sore throat and cough the cold from DD.

Anyone else have the same? Probably wishful thinking that I’d got off so lightly!

We’ve had that too. Badly enough to stay in bed for a couple of days and sleep a lot. Now self isolating just in case.

@Blueblackrose, the advice is a persistent cough and heads don't accept just a cough as sufficient for SI.

Re the sore throat, no haven't SI because it's not in the guidance so I would lose my job!

FunicularVictorian · 17/03/2020 07:08

@goingoverground no I haven't, tbh. But I'm generally a cold person who needs a lot of layers, sits under a blanket etc - and that's not changed so I have no reason to suspect I do. I will check it this morning though as you've made me think.

Took my temp. Normal. (Cold side of normal)

I think yes, that could bfnit.

Which means it is well established with community transmission in your area.

That is why it is vital to follow the isolation advice, and increase social distance when not isolating

I had this with a low fever but the main symptom was a cough and shortness of breath. We are self isolating.

What is a persistent cough though? Coughing all the time or a couple of times every hour? I also had a runny nose which to me is a cold not CV.

SunshineMoon100 · 13/04/2020 19:22

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyones turned out to be CV ? As im experiencing similar symptoms as you all.

BooseysMom · 13/04/2020 19:29

I've had a sore throat and crusty nose (sorry tmi!) for a few weeks now. I then started getting a tight chest. I'm not able to work from home and put it down to anxiety. I think it's hay fever i've got, not a virus.

I posted on 16th March with sore throat and tight chest. Was expecting it to turn into either a cold or coronavirus symptoms or just go away and it hasn’t. I still have a sore throat 4 weeks on and slight tight chest which seems to be easing up a bit. I’ve spoken to several people with similar symptoms. No idea what it is.

Charlottejade89 · 13/04/2020 21:17

my dd had a cough and sore sticky eyes so we self isolated. Within those 14 days I also developed a cough, sore throat, slight body aches, headache and fatigue. Have no idea if it was as had no temp but people are testing positive without a temp or cough at all so I would SI in case because you cant be too careful. Am back to work now working on covid ward so I'm guessing if I didnt have it I'll have it soon enough as half the staff have gone dow with it already

Namechange2306 · 13/04/2020 21:25

I had a very sore throat about 4 weeks ago, which turned into a tight chest and horrible cough. I had body aches and chills too. I think I had it. I also lost my appetite.

lemonjam · 13/04/2020 21:43

I’ve had a really sore throat for just over 3 weeks now. Picking up a prescription for antibiotics tomorrow, the dr said they’d usually get me in for a swab but right now they’re handing them out just in case.
Haven’t had a cough or a fever so don’t think it’s cv but who knows really.
