So many people with a sore throat then mild cough - could this be it?

DD had a very heavy cold last weekend, proper smothering snotty, sneezing cold with aches and pains, sore throat etc.
She recovered in about 5-6 days and returned to school. A few days after her (last Wednesday onwards) I started feeling like I had a cold coming on, mainly a sore throat and an aching back. This developed into a mild, slightly productive thickly annoying cough over this weekend and my chest feels tight, back still achy. I have no fever only the occasional chill but it’s short lived and I generally feel ok.

I’ve read loads of posts on FB and on here of this sore throat and then developing into a cough and I’m wondering if this could be it? We’d never know. I keep thinking the aching back is tension and tight feeling in my chest anxiety and the sore throat and cough the cold from DD.

Anyone else have the same? Probably wishful thinking that I’d got off so lightly!

Following. I've had a slight tickle at the back of my throat since Saturday. I cough very lightly very occasionally. Certainly not "persistently" I'm fine apart from that. But I just don't know...Confused

SupermarketFlowerss · 16/03/2020 20:46

I have a really achy back, kind of at the back of my lungs, sore throat but not too bad during the day worse at night and feel really tired, feels a bit different to breath in.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/03/2020 20:47

No, I think it's separate bug.

Babyfairy0923 · 16/03/2020 20:48

I’ve got this too

tobee · 16/03/2020 20:48

It's very tricky. If any of us had these symptoms at this time of year any other year we'd barely register it.

FAQs · 16/03/2020 20:50

I think it’s a separate virus I’ve got a really sore throat, tired and aching but no cough or temp

Solitaryconfinement · 16/03/2020 20:51

It is difficult, I’m not sure if a lot of my back / chest tightness is actually anxiety because I’m breathing differently. I feel like I do when my hay fever kicks in around September.

All the NHS info seems to indicate the fever is the most consistent feature, but there's so much we don't know.

smellycatwee · 16/03/2020 20:58

thats exactly what I had for a week. its gone now. whatever it was.

pirateparker · 16/03/2020 20:59

I’ve had a sore throat/neck/back increasingly over the weekend. Occasionally cough but not constant nor a fever. Wish we could all be tested so we know where we stand.

GhostsToMonsoon · 16/03/2020 21:00

I had a sore throat and felt a bit ill and tired at the weekend (no fever). Today I've just got a cough. But I often get coughs and colds in the winter so this isn't unusual.

Minai · 16/03/2020 21:07

I have this. Very mild sore throat and aching back. Tight chest too. I have mild asthma which doesn’t usually bother me but it has really flared up which worries me. I don’t know if it’s just stress or a cold? No fever though.

MonsterRehab23 · 16/03/2020 21:12

I hAve a tight chest with aching back. Sore ears, started coughing more today. Taking my inhalers more. Slightly tickly throat. No fever though. DD has a snotty nose last week so may have caught her cold. I don’t think it’s corona but just don’t know...

goingoverground · 16/03/2020 21:42

I know so many people in London who have had exactly the same symptoms over the past 3-4 weeks. And probably a lot I don't know judging from the number of people coughing in the tube and the supermarket, even for the flu and cold season.

I had that feeling of coming down with something, tired and a bit cold, then a sore throat the next day (by this point I was convinced I was getting something as DS had just visited and then gone down with flu a few days before) and my chest felt tight/inflamed like it does when you have a cough but without a cough or, for those of you old enough to remember, how I always felt after spending the night in a smoky pub/club in the days before the ban. Then the annoying but not awful dry cough started and is still going 3 weeks later, same tight chest feeling, and a very low grade fever that comes and goes.

I guess it could be another virus as it started going around quite some time ago. Although, of the people I know who have had it, they all caught it from people who would be at higher risk of having COVID-19 but didn't quite fit the profile for testing when they had it eg someone who had been in Singapore at the end of January or an HCP.

It would be useful to do some random testing to get a better picture of the epidemic but with tests in short supply, I guess that can't happen.

Peapod29 · 16/03/2020 21:45

Gosh, we’ve all had exactly those symptoms too! Started with the kids.

icecreamscoops · 16/03/2020 21:47

Oh my gosh I have had these symptoms for over a week now, sort of tight chest and a bit of a cough and just not feeling 100%

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 16/03/2020 21:47

I have a sore throat, a bit of a cough (but not 'persistent' in that I can more or less control it) and a tight chest too. Also a really sore tongue from ulcers! I don't really think this is 'it' bit I'm a bit worried that if I can't shake it - and I've felt like this for a while - that I won't cope well with Covid.

kissgoodnightsam · 16/03/2020 21:48

So those of you who’ve had these symptoms - sore throat plus a mild cough - have you self-isolated? My ds (2) and I have had this for a week now, we still feel a bit rough and still intermittently coughing. DS definitely had a high temperature but I didn’t. Feels like a bad cold, lots of nose blowing etc.
Question is, do I now take my older ds out of school for the next 7 days and make us all self-isolate? Please help - I’m stressed wondering what I should do!! Really dii ok my think it’s cv as we have basically got a cold, but still have a slight cough.....

Alyssum34456 · 16/03/2020 21:50

Sneezing and snotty isnt a symptom so probably not I'm afraid

HomerDancing · 16/03/2020 21:55

I haven't started coughing yet, but I have had a dry throat and my throat, shoulders and upper back have been aching terribly like I've slept funnily but it's been going on for days which is not normal for me.

TheQueef · 16/03/2020 21:56

I think a company in Senegal are making good progress with an at home test.
I'm praying they crack it and a Global effort is put into manufacture.

Something needs to go right.

haddyh · 16/03/2020 21:56

Friday I started getting a sore chest.
Saturday my lungs were aching and a bit of a cough
Sunday I was a bit better and today it's gone.
Was that it ? Who knows

nibdedibble · 16/03/2020 21:59

I have this. It’s so mild, I would barely register it any other time. I have not been out. If this is it I’ve got off extremely lightly.

FunicularVictorian · 16/03/2020 22:04

I have this too, it started in Saturday. A day or two before that I felt occasionally nauseous. Sore throat, tight chest, occasional dry cough. Little bit of a snotty nose. No fever though which is the main symptom of CV as far as I know.

kissgoodnightsam · 16/03/2020 22:07

But my ds had a high temperature. And we’ve both still got a cough.

I am 95% certain it’s a cold. But surely it’s not up to us to self-diagnose what it ‘probably’ is. The instructions are to self-isolate if you have a cough or a temperature. Regardless of whether that’s part of a cold or not.
Or have I got that completely wrong? My teenage ds is basically upstairs asking whether he should put his alarm on for school in the morning or not.
