So many people with a sore throat then mild cough - could this be it?

DD had a very heavy cold last weekend, proper smothering snotty, sneezing cold with aches and pains, sore throat etc.
She recovered in about 5-6 days and returned to school. A few days after her (last Wednesday onwards) I started feeling like I had a cold coming on, mainly a sore throat and an aching back. This developed into a mild, slightly productive thickly annoying cough over this weekend and my chest feels tight, back still achy. I have no fever only the occasional chill but it’s short lived and I generally feel ok.

I’ve read loads of posts on FB and on here of this sore throat and then developing into a cough and I’m wondering if this could be it? We’d never know. I keep thinking the aching back is tension and tight feeling in my chest anxiety and the sore throat and cough the cold from DD.

Anyone else have the same? Probably wishful thinking that I’d got off so lightly!

I have had this too. Started off with slight sore throat, blocked ears, dizziness and nausea. Thrn got better but a week later I have back ache where my lungs are, an occasional ticklu cough, tired and. It 100%. But not persistent cough or fever

Isadora2007 · 16/03/2020 22:11

Given that Tom Hanks and Idris Elba have both said they didn’t even know they had it then I’d expect it could well be so mild people don’t know they’ve got it. A temperature is not a given- or some people won’t notice an increase of a degree or so...

kissgoodnightsam · 16/03/2020 22:15

But my question is - should we self-isolate based on these symptoms?? I don’t really care if we have it or not!

Spied · 16/03/2020 22:17

Tickly cough, very dry mouth and headache for last three days.
No fever.
Negatively thinking that it's not Corona and when/if I get it then it's going to be a lot worse.

SupermarketFlowerss · 16/03/2020 22:17

@Countrygirl38 your symptoms exactly like mine. Are you ok now?

Solitaryconfinement · 16/03/2020 22:18

@Countrygirl38 my symptoms are exactly the same too.

@FunicularVictorian have you actually taken your temperature?

Countrygirl38 · 16/03/2020 22:22

Hi Solitary and Supermarket, no back of cheat area is starting to get more painful today. I haven't self isolated as I had no cough other than a few over night and no apparent fever. I am not sure if the pain is indigestion. Plus these symptoms started before my county had any supposed corona virus cases

Busymummy16 · 16/03/2020 22:23

I have these symptoms too. Feel a little rough but not that bad. I’m tending to think it’s not CV.

Fannia · 16/03/2020 22:24

I have this it's very mild so that I keep thinking I am imagining it due to reading about CV too much! Mild sore throat and mild chesty feeling but no cough. Sore back which I thought was just my normal bad back that sometimes plays up.

SupermarketFlowerss · 16/03/2020 22:28

@Countrygirl38 it's strange isn't it because if it wasn't for CV I probably wouldn't think anything of it. I hope your feeling better soon but please keep us updated x

MrsWooster · 16/03/2020 22:33

Since we can’t possibly know if it IS cv, isn’t caution the right thing to do...? minimal necessary social interactions?

Countrygirl38 · 16/03/2020 22:41

Thanks Supermarket, I hope you feel better soon too

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 16/03/2020 22:51

I had this a few days ago. Before to self isolate with either cough or temperature. I didn’t have temperature so didn’t self isolate as advice at time was to isolate if it was both symptoms. I’d quite like to know if this is it. But I think it’s something else tbh unfortunately.

Needtobepositive · 16/03/2020 22:52

One of mine has a bad sore throat and a slight chesty cough. She’s now getting a rash. Could be CV but most likely just a bug of some sort. Will see how it plays out.

Needtobepositive · 16/03/2020 22:52

No temp tho.

Cinammoncake · 16/03/2020 22:54

I've got this. Sore throat, no temp, bit of sneezing but not much, bit of tightness in chest a few days ago. Slight nausea.

MetallicPaints · 16/03/2020 22:57

@souldivachakkakahn me too. Tickle at the back of my throat. I'd just ignore it under any other circumstances. I can't self isolate because of a tickle.Confused

Littleninja1 · 16/03/2020 23:03

I have exactly this. I've got chills on and off with chattering teeth, I'm exhausted and sleeping a lot, chest is tight, back sore, muscles aching, minor sore throat. No temp and only a slight tickle in throat.

Until I read Tom Hanks describe his symptoms I thought this couldn't possibly be it but he said he had aches and fatigue so maybe?

What makes this really unusual for me is I've had it nearly a week and I'm not really feeling better. Normally I'd be considerably better by now.

TrudysTerribleFringe · 16/03/2020 23:05

I have been coughing all day, had a sore throat yesterday too.

No positive cases in our county and I haven't been in contact with any high risk people so I am fairly sure it is something else.

Don't have a thermometer to test though.

Theyrecomingtotakemeawayhaha · 16/03/2020 23:06

There are always lot of colds about this time of year.In a couple in a few months when we're out of winter it will be a bit clearer as the normal colds and flu decrease.

MileyWiley · 16/03/2020 23:10

I've got this too. 3 month old DD had a cold and cough last week so I presume it's what she had although she was snotty and I'm not yet snotty - just sore throat, occasional dry cough, ears not quite right, tired, no temp.

WhiteChocTwix · 16/03/2020 23:11

I have this too! Sore throat followed by coughing and fatigue. Felt like I was sickening for something beginning of last week on and off. Hit me all day Thursday. Hubby is complaining of similar now and had a bad headache Saturday night. We are SI as he WFH and my temping got cancelled today while the press conference was on. No childcare to consider and enough food on the house so duvet day for me tomorrow! 😷 No temperatures either...🤔

Littleninja1 · 16/03/2020 23:11

Meant to say I don't have a cold. Nose is all good Grin

I'm in London so do wonder if these symptoms could be caused by pollution. It could also be anxiety.

Blueblackrose · 16/03/2020 23:20

If someone in your house had a cough you all need to self isolate for 14 days. Good advice with more useful details than the news headlines, albeit, Scottish, updated today. Yes it is a pain and it's maybe not CV but this is now what reality is like.

www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19

If you live with others, then the person who has symptoms of COVID-19 (new continuous cough and/or fever/high temperature) should stay at home for 7 days from the start of their symptoms and all other household members who don’t develop any symptoms should stay at home for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day illness began in the first person to become ill

If others in the household develop symptoms within the 14 days, then they will need to stay at home for 7 days from the day their symptoms began, even if this takes them over the 14 day isolation period
