Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

@StCharlotte oh dear 😂

DaffodilThatch I love Greece. But the loo roll thing is soo disappointing when you remember it!

So my octogenarian parents were worrying because there usual delivery of meds hadn't been delivered. But this morning mum said that the local help team or trying to track it down.

My dad's worried because he doesn't have any cash left but I'm not sure if people are avoiding cash right now? They like to pay for the paper by cash etc. He's also run out of Guinness

Last night I watched the first episode of Breeders with Martin Freeman that is on sky. I recommend it unless you worry about swearing or you are a signed up "Mumsnet parent"

Hello everyone. Am also in North Yorkshire and it is a lovely day. Had one long walk, one run with DS and another long walk next. Bought a jigsaw. Did M&S and Waitrose this morning. Both very well stocked inc loo roll! People out and about when walking all really friendly - but all sensibly keeping at a distance.

tobee · 21/03/2020 13:03

Thanks for that link Orange. Just had a quick read but definitely a resource to return to.

MinesaPinot · 21/03/2020 13:22

Me and DH had to go to the dentist yesterday (haven't dared mention that anywhere else!) and I couldn't get loo roll anywhere. We've got some very light paper handtowels that we could use if we run out so I bought a little swing top bin in Poundland and some fragranced bin liner bags and told DH we would have to make like Greece and bin and bag if necessary.

People out and about in our village in the sunshine. Butchers and bakers are stocked and busy, and our little Co-op had most things we needed (apart from the aforesaid loo roll) so we will be staying local. Got to go into work in town on Thursday, Government guidelines permitting, so will go up on early train, do until lunchtime and come home. Trains are empty so it will be easy to isolate. I'm finding it really relaxing being at home at the weekend, and not feeling we've got to rush out and do stuff. We're taking our time, I'm just about to put some washing in and hopefully get it out on the line, and DH is pottering around. We're planning to settle down with a film and a glass of wine later this afternoon.

Quieter times, but making us more able to appreciate what we have got.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/03/2020 13:26

Just been reminded of this - it's a very old one, but still quite fun:

HonestlyItsFine · 21/03/2020 13:29

I accidentally hid this thread, so I have to type "iii" into the search bar to get to it! CBA with anywhere else on here today. It's descended into madness.

notmyhusbandsproperty · 21/03/2020 13:37

So many doomsayers on mumsnet today! We will get through this. It will be tough but we can do it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/03/2020 13:38

iii made me laugh! I know the Finns go in for words with "ii" in them, but even they would have trouble pronouncing "iii".

Keynote1 · 21/03/2020 13:52

Daughter parked on drive and 9 year old granddaughter rang door bell, handed me some flowers and ran away telling me to wash my ha ds as she went. No hugs sadly.

Lovely to see her if any for a few minutes, had a silly little wobble that she had been out and about this morning but washed my hands pretty quickly so sure it would be ok.

I’m public sector Totally and will absolutely be paying everyone I usually do as I consider myself fortunate right now.

That’s really kind of you and I know that those that can afford to pay me and even those that apologise because they’re having to cancel, have really gone up in my estimation. The very wealthy ones that I know can afford to but have no intention of, after being with me for years, have dropped slightly, tbh.

peoplepleaser what few clients I have are following my new protocol. They contact me when they arrive, attach their dog to an already sterilised lead on a hook and step back, while I take their dog. I do the same in reverse later, Most conversations now take place by phone and it’s just a quick hello and goodbye at drop off/pick up. I’ve put it across that this is to protect ALL clients, especially my vulnerable ones. It might be something for you to consider. Good luck and we will get through this. We have to.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 21/03/2020 14:12

Thank goodness for dogs. Let’s face it, after a few weeks stuck with children, you’re going to prefer the dog or cat. Grin

Alsohuman · 21/03/2020 14:19

Our little terrier has been renamed “Our little sanity saver”.

Spudlet · 21/03/2020 14:27

About to bake some banana bread with my little assistant. Wondering how far we’ll make it into the recipe before he gets bored this time Grin

Bet he won’t get bored when we’re eating it though 😏

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 21/03/2020 14:43

Our neighbourhood group is usually full of things like road closures and plumbers wanted and chests of drawers for sale, but today someone on it won my heart with this:
"As we are all likely stocked up for isolation but may have more than we need of some perishable goods can I suggest we somehow set up a swapshop whereby if someone has something going out of date that they will not use, they post it on here as free and if anybody needs it they arrange to leave it in a container outside their home to be collected by the party that needs. In return maybe for an item of similar value or, for free if they can? Will save valuable food going to waste?"

Good for them! They are also organising deliveries for people who can't go to fetch food or prescriptions because they are in isolation.

I like the way this crisis is causing at least people to be kind to strangers.

The local church has put a leaflet through the door offering the same sort of help, too. But not the swapshop, which I think is genius.

Hi 👋 I’ve been reading the last few pages and would love to jump in. I spent all last week on here (on the CV board) or one of the main news websites and I can’t do it anymore because I’m becoming very depressed and having to control my breathing to prevent a panic attack. I haven’t been this bad since I lost my dad over a year ago. Sorry that’s not the most positive start is it Grin

  • So! Positive things. The sun is shining and I took our dogs out earlier. We have 4 dogs so plenty of exercise for me!
  • My 3 boys (ages 12,12 and 14) went jogging together at 6 this morning. So nice to see them not fighting.
  • I’ve always wanted to home educate but been scared to make the leap and now I don’t have a choice Wink. It’ll give me something positive to focus on. My DD (aged 8) has already made me a teacher timetable to follow and is really into it!
  • My DS (the 14 year old) has been on his guitar non-stop and learning to play lots of new song a I’m so pleased as he’s been doing very badly at school but is such a great kid at home!
  • My DH is cooking a veggie chilli and it smells amazing.
  • Our local Co-op had kidney beans in for 35p!

That’s quite a lot actually and I’m feeling better already.

DaffodilThatch · 21/03/2020 15:40

@tobee I love Greece too. Well, Kefalonia which is the only part of Greece I've been too! Highly recommend the Instagram account my_kefalonia which posts beautiful photos of the island.

@Gypsywanderer welcome! Lots of lovely positives there.

On a general note, I'm really wishing I had a dog right now after all the pet love posts. A cocker spaniel would be lovely.

Hi everyone. So much rubbish being posted online about this situation Hmm I hate to think people are swallowing it without question.

I am finding it so helpful to step away from reading things online generally. It really helps. I'm also getting outside as much as I can and feel so much better for it. Can I recommend cold showers too? They help your immune system and your mental health and having one every day is making me feel well and full of energy. Can I say if it will make any difference in terms of avoiding getting ill? No, but it gives me a tiny feeling of control back. Every little thing helps right?

I will feel so much better when more people self-isolate too. I think it dawns on more people each day how crucial it is.

GypsyWanderer · 21/03/2020 15:44

@DaffodilThatch dogs have definitely helped me, even if it’s just to get out and get some fresh air. They keep you motivated.

tobee · 21/03/2020 15:45

Ooh cold showers @Noooblerooble 🤔Now that is a challenge!

Spudlet · 21/03/2020 15:54

@DaffodilThatch My cocker spaniel once rolled in a dead seal and also has the most horrendous flatulence, which he always, always lets go of when he’s on the sofa next to me. It makes my eyes water sometimes. I’m not exaggerating for comic effect here, it really does.

I shall post him to you Grin

Bouncingbomb · 21/03/2020 15:55

Hello Gypsy. Lovely to have a dog or three to walk. I lost my lovely. dog in September and got a cat in November because I couldn't stand a house without a little friend. He is a horror, we call him Kitler - teenage terror 7 month old phase ... I don't remember any of my other cats being quite this bad !!

DD & I have just done our first Yoga session - she really wasn't that into it Grin, attention span of a gnat. Doing yoga in my living room made me see how much it needed vacuuming so thats my next job, vacuuming the whole house!

Another positive thought ... all that money I don't spend on holidays this summer will pay for three bedrooms to be decorated/new carpets. Something to enjoy for longer than a fortnight!

DaffodilThatch · 21/03/2020 15:58

@Spudlet lol!!! Ermm.. might be over my longing now Grin
