Adults who require a flu jab for any chronic illness to self-isolate for 12 weeks

My ds 20 and I are both asthmatics who require an annual flu jab - do we fall into this category then? And what is even the point if dh is out working everyday in contact with the public.
None if this makes sense - what a bloody nightmare.

I’m sorry for being think - I cannot think straight due to my anxiety! I’m an asthmatic teacher who gets the flu jab - can someone please tell me what I need to do? 😢

Playdoughbum · 16/03/2020 21:08

So hold on
I have asthma- I will need to stop going out. Except I can go out to my job. My job with 400 odd small germ spreaders? This seems.... odd?

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/03/2020 21:11

Playdoughbum

That's my dilemma - apparently I shouldn't go out, even to do my shopping, but I can go to work, in a shop.

Wildernesstips · 16/03/2020 21:11

No @Playdoughbum the guidance states you are “strongly advised” to work from home

turkeyontheplate · 16/03/2020 21:12

Thank you, sorry I didn't see the other link

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/03/2020 21:15

Sorry my app didn't refresh. I see that been posted.

itsgettingweird · 16/03/2020 21:16

I didn't hear them specifically say those who are entitled to the flu jab?

Can someone link it please?

I heard those who are particularly vulnerable including chronic health conditions, over 70,s and those pregnant.

My ds gets the flu jab as he has yet unconfirmed hereditary spastic paraplegia. He also swims 6 times a week and probably is fitter and healthier than me!

Playdoughbum · 16/03/2020 21:19

I can’t work from home. Unless they close the schools. It’s insane!

perhapstomorrow · 16/03/2020 21:21

I have mild asthma and hardly use the blue inhaler and never bothered taking up the offer of the flu jab. According to this, I need to self isolate but will this be enforced or is it voluntary? Also, what does mean for my dc, should I keep them off school? I'm in a bit of a panic as never considered myself in the vulnerable group!

forgetthehousework · 16/03/2020 21:25

DH has Crohns Disease, always has a free flu jab. I have high blood pressure, always have a free flu jab, but apparently we are fine to go out! DH doesn't work (not well enough) and my job is in the care sector so no way I can work from home. We are both over 60, so more vulnerable already. I think it's very unlikely that my manager will be at all sympathetic - he puts the company first. I know the people I care for need help but I am terrified of the potential consequences to DH and myself.

Katri999 · 16/03/2020 21:26

Take your children out, I have, I'm Asthmatic with only 1 good lung working, my kids are both Asthmatic too.

AutumnCrow · 16/03/2020 21:26

Flu jab thing - Dr Chris Whitty said it after Boris Johnson spoke

DentalPatient · 16/03/2020 21:27

The above link basically says anyone eligible for the flu jab should adhere strictly to social distancing but doesn’t go as apparently as saying they should all self isolate.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 16/03/2020 21:44

Does it mean that anyone who has underlying health conditions are not to go out at all?

missnevermind · 16/03/2020 21:45

So those in the 12 week at risk group who are taking their children out of school, do you mean for the whole 12-week period?

Matildathehun77 · 16/03/2020 21:58

I have mild, well controlled asthma. I'm also very overweight. I'm panicking, I must admit and will be staying at home alone as much as possible..... however I work in a school. It's not closed yet, if all the asthmatics in school were given 12 weeks sick leave the school wouldn't be able to function. I'm hoping they close school soon though.

Yes, I think though this is my argument for working from home. Rather than commuting into London everyday to sit at a desk doing work I could easily do at home.

ffswhatnext · 16/03/2020 22:02

There have been times I have had to self isolate.
So we already know the drill. Do I like it? Do I fuck but it’s saved me over the years.

It’s time for your families to step up and do their bit.

I stay in one room. Anyone who comes into the room knows what they have to do. When I leave the room I know what I have to do.
Tech makes family meals still doable.
The rest of the household had to continue with their lives.

From the moment this thing hit the country they made sure they weren’t slacking in terms of hygiene and cleaning up for themselves. It happens. Teens. Because of these things in place already it’s stopped a hell of a lot of cross-contamination.

And honestly if people in your household aren’t onboard, ask them what they are on. And in 13 weeks time, it will all be over and all those excuses about why things cannot be done, and no longer getting asked what’s for dinner is the new norm. There’s your proof that they’ve been talking utter shite all this time 🤣

GlassCollectorAnnie · 16/03/2020 22:03

@BarbedBloom I think so. My understanding is that we should adopt as strict a social distancing as we can but we don’t need to self isolate unless we have symptoms. It’s going to be tough. I’m a lone parent, with two terminally ill parents in separate care homes at the other end of the country who I’m not going to be able to visit. Looking on the bright side, I am able to work from home...

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 22:03

Strandliv everyone should be wfh. But yes you can also add this if you think they need it too.

SauvignonBlanche · 16/03/2020 22:04

Fucking hell, DH is going to be locked in for 12 weeks, I wish they’d take him away.

Butternutbrownie · 16/03/2020 22:09

severe asthma (requiring hospital admissions or courses of steroid tablets)

So is this asthmatics who have a rescue course of oral steroids a few times a year or only those who have them all the time?
