Adults who require a flu jab for any chronic illness to self-isolate for 12 weeks

My ds 20 and I are both asthmatics who require an annual flu jab - do we fall into this category then? And what is even the point if dh is out working everyday in contact with the public.
None if this makes sense - what a bloody nightmare.

Yeah that is also me as a t1 - but my children are still in school so 🤷🏼‍♀️

AgnesNaismith · 16/03/2020 18:22

DH does so we’ve decided to keep the children at home. What’s the point in self isolation if a whole school full of germs comes into the house every day.

MitziK · 16/03/2020 18:23

But I'm required to be in school to deal with the kids infected with the 'harmless in children' Covid-19 infections, along with all the other support staff and teaching staff that are necessary to run a school.

Because there's no risk in keeping the schools open, apparently.

NightmareLoon · 16/03/2020 18:24

I'm asthmatic but utterly mild, sports asthma. Not only do I have a kid in school, I also work in one. Confused

TheGinSoakedBoy · 16/03/2020 18:25

Asthmatic here on inhaled steroids daily. I have a flu jab yearly. No chance of WFH.
I'm a inch away from a panic attack. What the hell so I do.
DH works with the public.
Two secondary school aged kids.
Fuck.
Handholding to you all (with gloves on!)

AgnesNaismith · 16/03/2020 18:25

@MitziK can you get signed off?

NewChapter11 · 16/03/2020 18:26

I also can't afford to not work for 3 months. This is all so surreal.

So this is all over 65 too?

Menopauseandteensdontmix100 · 16/03/2020 18:26

It was vague as....

I am also asthmatic get the flu jab annually and jab also have another underlying health condition.
Was he saying I hide away for 4 months and avoid going to work. DH has been encouraged to work from home as much as poss from this week. I don’t work for the NHS or anything absolutely vital/essential but part of my jobs involves seeing people for face to face appointments. Am I still expected to go into work?
One teen DC is still going to school but the other teen DC’s school has already closed for 2 weeks due to CV.

Heatherjayne1972 · 16/03/2020 18:27

Is this compulsory now
Or just strongly advised ?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/03/2020 18:27

I have asthma mostly triggered by allergies. My child is still in school and my husband still at work. I've not had to use my blue inhaler in years.

RoseAndRose · 16/03/2020 18:28

"Because there's no risk in keeping the schools open, apparently."

Link?

From today's press conference:

"Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK's chief scientific adviser, said other measures may be necessary - including school closures - at some point.
"Those things need to be done at the right time," he said"

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 16/03/2020 18:28

The lack of information was appalling. All it's done is left us in more of a panic.

Potentially this is both me and my husband on lockdown. So now what?

AutumnCrow · 16/03/2020 18:28

I get an annual flu jab at my GP surgery because of a chronic health condition.

My DS is coming home soon because his university just closed. My DD might need to come home because she just lost her restaurant and theatre jobs so she will lose her houseshare.

Slow hand clap for Boris.

We don't all have money.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/03/2020 18:28

Meant to add so do I really need to self isolate?

BarbedBloom · 16/03/2020 18:28

I am immune suppressed and asthmatic. How are we going to manage financially? My DH is still supposed to work so will bring it back

Butterbear86 · 16/03/2020 18:29

Advised.
I suppose if we ignore advice and get it it’s our own fault 🤷🏼‍♀️
But honestly, my children are more likely to give it to me than anyone else. If they are still in school then seeing friends in their own homes etc / visiting people seems ok.

MarshaBradyo · 16/03/2020 18:29

They said the detail would be online.

Hopefully it will be up soon.

Sosososotired · 16/03/2020 18:30

DS(14) has asthma which is hugely triggered when he gets a virus. He’s off now with a cold which has gone to his chest. Seems unfair that he is still expected to go to school.

midgebabe · 16/03/2020 18:31

If at all possible all should be Working from home

Our business has already said it will try to find a work from home solution for people who are living with vulnerable people

If the rest of your family must go out you should try and find ways to self isolate in the home

Keep your distance, can you use a different loo etc. Food left at your bedroom door and you wash up in the sink in your own loo

SexTrainGlue · 16/03/2020 18:32

"Is this compulsory now
Or just strongly advised ?"

I think it will be compulsory from the weekend

12 weeks (minimum) self isolation for those with underlying medical conditions, the over-70s, and the pregnant.

So pretty much the flu jab group (excluding healthy people age 60-69)

Jaxhog · 16/03/2020 18:33

I think the idea is to still allow us some choice while minimizing the risks. But I would like to see what support is going to be available, so we can make an informed choice.

Fucket · 16/03/2020 18:34

When are we supposed to self isolate, it’s not yet is it? It’s some point to be announced before the weekend right?

chantico · 16/03/2020 18:34

If the rest of your family must go out you should try and find ways to self isolate in the home

Not any more

The rules changed today.

If one person is symptomatic, the whole family must self-isolate for 14 days.

FailingMeansYouArePlaying · 16/03/2020 18:35

I have an autoimmune condition which is unmedicated at the moment. I'm not sure where I stand within the at risk group...
