Who, said testing and the tracking are the backbone of fighting covid response

midgebabe · 16/03/2020 17:45

Yes, I would say that for a household with a single vulnerable person , if you can't fully isolate them from the children ( stay with an aunt, live in the attic) then the children need to stay in the home also

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 16/03/2020 17:45

People are still talking about making plans for Sunday lunch

See, we have a table booked for Mothers Day on Sunday.
Up until now I'd have still been going as guidelines hadn't said any differently, but think will be cancelling now to be on the safe side.
We're not all daft.

Beansandcoffee · 16/03/2020 17:45

So I can’t go to running club as it is social. But I still have to go to work and my local pub has just announced that it will be staying open.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:45

@TwelveIslands Yes that is Boris approach. Make no hard decisions or actions and leave the population to make those for themselves. Which also means he does not have to provide any support to make them happen.

Jaxhog · 16/03/2020 17:45

@alloutoffucks - that's working well for other countries isn't it!!??

MinkowskisButterfly · 16/03/2020 17:45

@blueberryham I have until today only had a blue inhaler and have always been offered a flu job. You should get it, question it, it is a mistake on their part.

lustforlife · 16/03/2020 17:45

Was there any specific advice for pregnant women? I don't know where I can watch the speech to catch up. I work in the NHS but based in schools and am getting more worried!

CrowleysBentley · 16/03/2020 17:45

What is the point in telling people to stay away from pubs and restaurants, and not telling them to close?

DD is a waitress/bar staff in a pub restaurant and they have been extremely busy recently, as usual. This has really been worrying me anyway as I'm in a high risk group. There's no way in hell that her boss will close unless he is made to do so.

kateandme · 16/03/2020 17:45

trying to lessen contact with others.does thatinlucde not touching people or hugging those in your own home?

SouthWestmom · 16/03/2020 17:45

Well what a load of waffle. Stay in for two weeks! Don't go to the theatre, hopefully you'll get paid, wed really like business not to fold, use your common sense - I really hope BJ goes down as a crap leader

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:45

@Jaxhog yes it is. You are not paying attention if you think it does not work.

Sakura7 · 16/03/2020 17:45

The only stat that matters is deaths. They don't need tests.

Not according to the WHO, their message is 'test, test. test'.

But hey, what do those leading doctors and scientists know? Hmm

TwelveIslands · 16/03/2020 17:46

They mentioned testing in the press conference. They said they would at some point be testing even those who no longer have the disease in order to ascertain exactly how it moved through society. That wasn't exactly clear, I think they must still be working that out. I doubt they have enough tests avalable right now.

BovaryX · 16/03/2020 17:46

People will not comply in the face of such a lack of logic. Same with schools - I am not cancelling all the dcs other activities if they are still attending school

This is the difference between a liberal democracy. And a totalitarian state where compliance is enforced

souldivachakkakahn · 16/03/2020 17:46

If my kids are still expected to go to school, then I'd also like them to continue doing their outdoor sports (football, running club etc) assuming the coaches running them were happy and willing to continue. But I'm expected that all to be cancelled. Which just seems silly.
The press conference was no where near specific or strict enough. BoJo is frogging useless.

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 17:46

Confused jax hog.... We need you to be in school? But don't go to the pub, but teacher who would happily social distance, is put at risk by students parents who feel this is alot of nonsense?

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:48

I kept my DC at home today and I am at home. My DP went to work - works in health setting but not with anyone who would come seeking treatment for corona.
But that is it. The government obviously don't give a shit and are not prepared to take the difficult decisions or difficult actions. I am going to talk to him tonight about not going into work.

TrafalgarSquare · 16/03/2020 17:48

oh yes, that makes sense. Can't believe how much he waffled. Utterly disingenuous.

kateandme · 16/03/2020 17:48

will all those immune supressed be contacted by their own gps to clarify.
on the mental health front, what about people with eating disorders?

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 17:48

Soul

All school clubs that involve anything that cause injury should be stopped.. There will be no ambulance or staff available to collect Peter with his broken leg!!

midgebabe · 16/03/2020 17:48

The logic about gong to work via tube ( if there is no way you can work from home) but avoiding social contact will reduce your risk of encountering someone who is infected

middleager · 16/03/2020 17:50

I don't think we can trust people to be sensible, unless they are told in no uncertain terms.

I know somebody who was planning on visiting a new mother whose premature baby is in a neonatal unit.
I had to point out why that was a terrible idea - and not just because her son potentially has it!

Also, looking at the St Patrick's Day revellers and massive concert in cardiff. People won't keep away. My nephews, in their 20s, don't take this seriously because they are "invinsible".

homemadecommunistrussia · 16/03/2020 17:50

The point is to cut down on the spread without the whole of society grinding to a halt. It's impossible to stop it completely, but that doesn't mean it's not worth reducing the amount of socialising we all do.

midgebabe · 16/03/2020 17:50

Keeping kids in school in general stops them going stir crazy, means that parents can keep working , with a very small risk to their health from corona, and avoiding risks caused by poor mental health and lack of exercise
