To go to the gym as normal?

I know they are seen as awash with germs but mine is pretty clean. I always wipe down the equipment well before and after using, especially where my hands are going to go, and wash hands as soon as I’ve finished.

I really don’t want to stop as I’m doing well losing weight and getting fitter, and exercise is good for the immune system anyway! I would need to stop going for months to avoid the virus.

AIBU? Slightly concerned about taking the virus home to family.

No, I was just moaning tbh

SubjectMatterExpert · 17/03/2020 19:54

We don’t care about your exercise regime

Speak for yourself! I’m quite interested @dementedpixie, what is it?

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 19:56

I do body pump, balance, combat, pilates and attack. I dont do actual running or use the gym itself

SpokeTooSoon · 17/03/2020 20:01

My Pilates teacher has just cancelled all her classes. She’s going to put videos on her website for us to follow. I feel very sorry for her. Very tough times to be self-employed.

dementedpixie · 17/03/2020 20:03

Most of the instructors at my sports centre are self employed too

MozzchopsThirty · 17/03/2020 20:36

@dementedpixie I've downloaded les mills on demand
It's a 2 week free trial so I can do body combat, body attack, cxworks etc in my living room

Did combat this morning Smile

TheoneandObi · 17/03/2020 20:37

I've stopped going. When it comes as announced we should be avoiding pubs and clubs etc i classes gym as the same category. It's not essential. Am still walking and cycling. And will play tennis later this week. For me though I feel outdoors activities are safer.

cologne4711 · 17/03/2020 20:38

Yes. I will still see my PT but only if the weather is good enough to work out outside so she can keep her distance and vice versa. We also did our session in the garden last week too.

MissGuernsey · 18/03/2020 00:11

I will continue to go. Been to the cinema and pub tonight. The latter was packed. No intention of curtailing my social activities.
The supermarkets near me are getting seriously depleted of stock due to panic-buying. I visited a large Sainsbury's tonight and huge swathes of shelving were empty. The sanitary protection section was completely devoid of any products. I didn't know the coronavirus increased the frequency of your menstrual cycle. This must give hope to women struggling to conceive! I understand that products may be needed by women post-surgery or for those suffering from stress-incontinence but don't tell me that if you are suffering from the latter you shove a tampon up your fanny.

So it is okay to visit the supermarket to meet your own needs? I work in mail distribution. I cannot 'work from home'. I have to travel on the tube. So no. I will continue to live my life. I don't give a fuck what folk think. Shut the schools if it is that serious.

SpokeTooSoon · 18/03/2020 01:05

Well, I can tell you’ve been to the pub.

WingingItSince1973 · 18/03/2020 01:05

@MissGuernsey absolutely utterly selfish!

MissGuernsey · 18/03/2020 01:53

SpokeTooSoon I had one pint of lager. I see the Mumsnet bitches are out in force.

WingingItSince1973 How am I selfish?

This helps explain the importance of social distancing which the government is trying to get people to do.

MissGuernsey · 18/03/2020 02:11

SpokeTooSoon Hit the nail on the head did I? You are probably one of the panic-buyers I refer to in my post.

Fuck off with your judgement. I work permanent nights. I went to Cineworld and the library tonight. Then had a pint on my way to the tube. My life. My business. Ever worked nights? I doubt it. You are probably the archetypal mumsnetter who works for pin money and lives off their husband.

Lweji · 18/03/2020 02:19

Some other charts for clarity.

We all have to change our usual behaviours. Particularly when contact with other people is involved.

And that's NOW. Not next week.

Everything we do now (to control or not) will be reflected in numbers 1-2 weeks later.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 02:21

Exercise outside instead. Take the govt instruction seriously so you are not part of creating a faster peak which NHS cannot meet.

midwestspring · 18/03/2020 02:21

It won't be too long before the cinema shuts, the library shuts and the pubs.
Because we need to look after the vulnerable in society not just ourselves.
We need to practice social distancing.
( I have worked nights if that matters?)

Monty27 · 18/03/2020 02:24

@MissGuernsey The thing is if you're carrying the virus without knowing and not practicing social distancing you're putting others at risk. At a ridiculously high rate. Therefore it is selfish.
Don't you care? You must understand this is not about you. Biscuit Hmm

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 02:24

The people who are shortsighted enough to continue will bring a lock down faster and restrictions will be greater. I hope they do it will stop selfish behaviour.

MissGuernsey · 18/03/2020 02:32

Monty27 I work in a mail distribution centre. The biggest in the UK. Do you expect me to 'work from home'? It is not possible. Whilst the folk who 'work from home' mess about on their laptops watching Netflix and online shopping (buying shite from China they do not need) which we end up delivering there is no point in me social distancing.

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 02:39

MissGuernsey just go to work and home as instructed by U.K. govt.

Lweji · 18/03/2020 02:39

There is a point for everyone to social distancing.
Work should already have in place a plan to reduce transmission within it.
At work you contact with the same people, so there are only a number of transmission routes possible.
If you have to work on deliveries, you can adopt safety measures to reduce transmission too.

If you go to the pub, library, gym, you're adding a few other transmission routes, to and from you.

MissGuernsey · 18/03/2020 02:50

MarshaBradyo

People are missing my point. I live in London. I have a full driving licence but do not run a car as I cannot justify the expensive of it due to my central location.

I shop daily as I can only buy what I can carry. Selfish fuckers are panic buying. I have to visit several supermarkets to get basic supplies. So I am putting myself at risk doing this. Plus travelling on the tube. I cannot see the problem in going to the cinema. Why haven't they closed the schools? Travelling on public transport surrounded by snotty kids is more of a risk than going to the pub or cinema. Oh wait! Mumsnetters will be hugely inconvenienced if they have to work from home and actually parent their kids!

MarshaBradyo · 18/03/2020 02:53

We do not have a choice over schools. Many have taken their dc out early. It’s not a good situation but you still have to adhere to the govt instruction. Don’t cast around looking for excuses.

Monty27 · 18/03/2020 02:57
