Because we are too rebellious. I cannot envisage people staying indoors for any length of time

Problem is, they've not been told what to do so they went mental and bought bog roll. In the absence of clear direction, it was all they could think of to do.

it's funny, but i firmly believe it's the truth.

LittleLittleLittle · 15/03/2020 22:09

@turdtimelucky odd then that we don't have ID cards and other European nations do.....

turdtimelucky · 15/03/2020 22:10

The legislation was introduced to prevent people leaving enforced quarantine. It's not a case of police randomly pulling up someone who sneezes. Trust some Brit to find this offensive.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 22:11

Looking back, they passed it pretty much as soon as we had a first confirmed case in Britain. Funny how they didnt mention it to us all, media was kept busy over this irrelevant Mexit shambles.

They took it seriously enough to pass this legislation as soon as we had confirmed cases, but didnt bother to tell us all then to be careful and slowly stock up. Looks like this was engineered to spread, and deliberately cause mass panic.

People over 70 will want to isolate when the deaths get up to 10k. People will start shitting themselves soon.

CathyandHeathcliff · 15/03/2020 22:11

Do you think going for a walk on the moors or woodland would cause an issue? We have moorland all around our house. And I’m really anxious about keeping my one year old indoors indefinitely. We have a tiny house with hardly any garden.

turdtimelucky · 15/03/2020 22:12

The legislation was introduced specifically because someone in quarantine in the Wirral wanted to leave. Remember that place a few travellers were quarantined in about a month ago?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 22:12

Or have i got my tinfoil hat on 😂 i just like to consider things from every possible angle

Mimishimi · 15/03/2020 22:13

I live about 2 miles from it you know. Other people in quarantine there denied someone trying to leave.

turdtimelucky · 15/03/2020 22:14

Do you think going for a walk on the moors or woodland would cause an issue?

If you are diagnosed, then yes, it would be an issue and they would have the powers to confine you. As you don't, wandering around the moors, won't be a problem.

Bearbehind · 15/03/2020 22:15

How would this work in practice?

Would the government say ‘if you live in moorland and have a difficult 1 year old then you’re free to roam, but if you live in central London then you stay inside at all times’ 🤔

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 15/03/2020 22:15

we are now hearing about A YEAR of the virus drama.

Funny that, as we are not doing anything to stop it, 1 year is pretty optimistic. We're probably hoping another country will find a vaccine or something because on our own, we are completely useless. Won't be too many of us left though, that might be the idea.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 22:15

Wavescrashing: Some people are up to no good again.

Sorry can you elaborate? Tbh take anything i say with a pinch of salt like i said im considering every angle and its not like we have ever been lied to before by the authorities.

bythehairsonmychinichinchin · 15/03/2020 22:16

How are the police, or anyone else, supposed to know who has COVID-19 if we're not testing?

Exactly! The uk absolutely doesn’t have the resources or funding to test people for the virus, they also don’t have the resources or funding to restrict people from leaving their own homes and imposing fines on people in breach or leaving their homes. They can’t even police normal crime due to police cuts!

The images seen on the TV and in the media where lock down has occurred is in the major cities and tourist areas, this is because they are densely over populated areas where germs and viruses spread rapidly.

MigginsMrs · 15/03/2020 22:16

If you are diagnosed, then yes, it would be an issue and they would have the powers to confine you

And how would they know that if they aren’t testing people?

turdtimelucky · 15/03/2020 22:16

The legislation is clearly to prevent DIAGNOSED people from wandering around, disobeying quarantine orders. Some people are very stupid if they draw the conclusion that police will now be going around the place arresting everyone with a cough.

Hopeisnotastrategy · 15/03/2020 22:16

I will just add that the whole of Spain is currently under a state of alarm. This is the lowest of three states they can enforce. It will not be any different elsewhere.

It’s also telling that people can be seriously offensive and sweary as fuck on here, but I had my first post deleted last night for enclosing links to unpleasant but true examples of what is currently going on in Italy.

MigginsMrs · 15/03/2020 22:17

Won't be too many of us left though, that might be the idea.

Oh do stop being so silly.

turdtimelucky · 15/03/2020 22:17

And how would they know that if they aren’t testing people?

It's for diagnosed people.

todayisnottuesday · 15/03/2020 22:18

This has now gone so off ;point I just had to check back to the top to see what thread I was on.

Anyway, I don't think 'the British' are too rebellious/ compliant/ thick/ offended/ poor for any measures. We're all human beings with different view/ attributes/ personal attributes, not some big homogenous group.

(Still pissing myself at the army randomly shooting at our pet cats/ dogs though)

MigginsMrs · 15/03/2020 22:18

It's for diagnosed people.

Right. So no ones being diagnosed unless they’re in hospital really though. Unlikely to be walking the streets breaking curfew.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 15/03/2020 22:19

Link to source please. I read this in the Fail and it was heavily refuted. Im happy to stand corrected upon link to a reputable source that isnt a tabloid newspaper.

Alsohuman · 15/03/2020 22:19

There’s frequently some bollocks on MN but this thread’s reached a new nadir.

todayisnottuesday · 15/03/2020 22:19

It's for diagnosed people.

Are they going to tattoo/ stamp all those with a positive result then?
