Sorry if this has been done already, but wondering if you’re sending your kids into school tomorrow. Just reply with a yes or no. Intrigued to know what everyone is planning on doing. Thanks

We're really not changing our routine until we REALLY have to.

So gym, seeing family and pub today and school / work tomorrow.

There may be weeks where we can't do anything so we want to remain as normal as possible for the time being.

SodaSodaBanana · 15/03/2020 14:41

@backaftera2yearbreak my DS has PGL in 2 weeks. He’d be in a smaller group than in school so I’m hoping so. A mental break for the kids from hearing about Corona virus can only be a good thing too.

MangosteenSoda · 15/03/2020 14:42

My son has autism and goes to a special needs school. They have told us that school will be open as usual as they are following government advice, but any parent that prefers to keep their child(ren) at home is free to do so with none of the usual attendance issues.

I (single mum) will be going to work at a university tomorrow as we are still on a full teaching schedule. That will transition to online as much as possible from the end of the week, but I'm not sure if they plan to close all classes and the campus. They are definitely cancelling big lectures and are trying to make nearly all lectures just available online.

I have no idea how I can work from home with my autistic child in the house if it comes to that. He squirted out a full bottle of hand soap this morning while I was in the shower. I guess they have been impressing hand washing upon them at school all week.

Twasbambam · 15/03/2020 14:44

Those who are choosing to keep their kids off, are you doing it until the virus has gone?

Yes. De-registering and home educating if necessary.

ILikeTrains · 15/03/2020 14:45

No, we're bringing dc home this afternoon - they live away from home in London to attend sixth form, renting a flat within a house. I'm not leaving them to worry/get ill alone. I don't want to be in the situation where we wouldn't be able to bring them home for whatever reason.

My other dc's uni has closed and I'm sure other schools will follow soon.

I don't blame anyone who wants to keep their kids home, so long as they are actually kept at home during this outbreak.

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/03/2020 14:46

Yes. No reason not to. I also need to get to work.

Hereforthenamethreads · 15/03/2020 14:46

Yes, there's no point in keeping them off if all the other children in the village are still attending school. All the germs will still be spreading but my kids would be missing out on their education.

wonkylegs · 15/03/2020 14:49

Big one is going to school, little one has a cough so will be off nursery for 7 days as per guidance
Have generally kept little one and big one apart, not hard when 11yo is the age where he's quite happy to self isolate in his bedroom and ignore the rest of us.

HairyToity · 15/03/2020 14:51

I think no, but need to persuade DH.

Rosieposy4 · 15/03/2020 14:52

It is simple not true to say that the only universities closing are those with large numbers of cases/self isolators.
Unless you are being pedantic and arguing they are not really closed ( as indeed many uni websites argue) as lectures will be available online.
My dc are at 4 different Russell group Unis, none of which have had the issues above, all 4 have no face to face lectures from now on, nor any practical sessions, tutorials etc etc.

Whatthecrepe · 15/03/2020 14:53

Yes, until schools close or they become unwell. I'll be at work too as normal, I work in a nursery

sunshineandshowers21 · 15/03/2020 14:53

after much deliberation we’ve decided to keep our two boys off. my youngest especially is always ill and gets every cold/bug going around so it seems like the most sensible thing to do. i’m a teacher (currently on maternity leave) though so i’ll be home schooling them - along with the son of my friend who has decided to keep him off but still needs to work. i’ll re-access the situation in a week and decide from there whether to keep them off further or send them back to school.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 15/03/2020 14:56

No, because she has a "new cough", and as per the latest Goverment guidelines, I must keep her isolated at home for 7 days.

backaftera2yearbreak · 15/03/2020 14:57

@SodaSodaBanana I’m hoping it goes ahead. If I get there tomorrow with his case and they cancel I won’t be amused! The local authority next to us told there kids Friday it was cancelled. I do understand they may have to but it will be frustrating.

ChristmasFlint · 15/03/2020 14:58

No. DH is a doctor and I can WFH so the kids and I isolating in the hope that we keep DH healthy longer so he can help more people.

Tibblestoe · 15/03/2020 15:00

"I will do what I'm told when I'm told to do it"

Good luck with that 😳

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 15/03/2020 15:00

Yes. Work will support me if school closes. Work will not support me in going against government advice and deciding to stay home. Health is important but so is having a job to go back to after this is over

Catapillarsruletheworld · 15/03/2020 15:00

Yes they’ll will be going until schools shut, unless they’re ill of course.

TheClitterati · 15/03/2020 15:00

Yes

longhaulstress · 15/03/2020 15:02

Yes

Womenwotlunch · 15/03/2020 15:02

I think that schools will be closed by the end of this week.

tootiredtoconga · 15/03/2020 15:11

Yes, as I work in a school and the government are determined we must stay open so I have no choice in the matter.

Ifartglitterybaubles · 15/03/2020 15:15

No.

BilboBercow · 15/03/2020 15:16

I will until they close, really need to be in work as long as I can.

Dd and I are not in any at risk group but we're avoiding visiting older relatives for now and are checking temperatures daily.

ILikeTrains · 15/03/2020 15:17

They should make it optional for the time being. If the healthiest and most able (i.e no dependant children) teachers stayed to teach those students that are sent in, and allow the other teachers to work from home setting course work for those children whose parents have kept them off.

I know it's not as simplistic as that but total closure will cause lots of problems for working parents, and keeping them open feels like a risky tactic. I'm glad I'm not in Government and having to make these decision.
