Are you sending your kids to school Monday?

Yes, No or Maybe answers only please.

As the WHO have now criticised the UK Government's strategy; death rates today doubled and we simply have no idea of the actual numbers of cases due to very limited testing. I'm seriously considering following the advice of WHO and most other European governments and self-isolating me and the kids from Monday.

Me - No
My kids - Yes

I need to persuade her not to go to school on Monday.

Mohster · 14/03/2020 16:32

I can only say that Im not as the evidence is clear and I mention the important factors that you need to be aware of as well as whether children should go to schools in my postings that need to be considered by all. You need to protect your family and reduce the risk and im sure the schools will start to close down wether the govt does this or not as teachers are worried themselves as they should be. There is a link to a petition to get Govt to close down the schools asap. Every day is another exposure that may kill people esp the elderly in your family.

Not sure, it is an inset day for dd1, dd2 goes to a teeny very rural primary school. Just not sure what to do at all.

MintySpud · 14/03/2020 16:41

Mine has chosen this moment to contract chickenpox, so no. Otherwise it would have been a yes.

crosspelican · 14/03/2020 16:43

Not sure.

Pretty sure schools will close next week though.

In NI Arlene Foster just said that it will be for four MONTHS when - not if - when - they close.

MillicentMartha · 14/03/2020 16:44

Yes
One doing A levels.
I work in a school.

JaniceBattersby · 14/03/2020 16:47

Yes. Mine will go in until the school closes. If they catch it then they catch it. I will follow the government’s advice because it is based on scientific evidence from people who I believe to be trustworthy.

Confuddledtown · 14/03/2020 16:48

Yes

tinytemper66 · 14/03/2020 16:49

I will be going to school until such time we close. If we have skeleton staff I will volunteer as I have grown up children.

mindutopia · 14/03/2020 16:52

No, schools will close for a lengthy period of time anyway and it makes no difference to dh or I if one needs to be home (dh is self employed but work will slow up eventually and I work for a uni that has already closed to students). No reason to take the risk of sending them when I’m now home anyway. Will home ed.

Not everyone has the option to do so and still get full pay though, which is why I’m happy to make that choice myself even if schools need to stay open for a bit.

lavenderhidcote · 14/03/2020 16:53

BecauseReasons · 14/03/2020 17:30

Oh good. Keep them off if you can. I teach and am in my first trimester of pregnancy- it is my understanding is that prolonged fevers at this gestation can cause birth defects, so I'm hoping to avoid C-19 as long as possible.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/03/2020 17:30

Attending for now. Trying to eke out as much 'fun' as we can before the closures start- I'm hopeful for Cub camp in 2 weeks, and DDs birthday party. Then that will be it for weeks. One case in our County currently.

CrocodileFondue · 14/03/2020 17:34

No, it's not worth the risk for us. DS and I are both very high risk

halcyondays · 14/03/2020 17:34

I’m unsure. Based on Arlene saying NI schools will be closed for 16 weeks, I think they’ll be closed by this Friday anyway, as that takes us up to the end of June, when they close for summer. It’s going to be a very long and stressful time, so unsure if it’s better to let them have a few more days of semi normality before we have no choice. Obviously I don’t want them to catch it at school.
